When I have the monitor hooked up via VGA everything is perfect. However when using DVI the screen "blanks" for about a second somewhat frequently during games. This hardly occurs at all during regular Windows use. I've enabled reduced DVI frequency but it still occurs.

I have a hard time noticing the different between DVI and VGA so it's not a big deal for me I'm just more concerned if something is actually wrong with the monitor or not.

It's possible it's the LCD because I've heard of this on some Samsung models, such as the 204B. Still, I'd suspect the graphics card too.

Well I thought I would finally get around to updating but it turns out my initial success with the new Dell 22" was pre-mature. Yeah it was much better then the last LCD I tested (the bleeding wasn't that big a deal) but it turns out that I still got dizzy after awhile, it just took alot longer (4 hours or so) and it was less pronounced but it was still there. Once it started it would get worse. Playing around with contrast and brightness seemed to help a bit but would not eliminate the problem.

So the hunt continues, I'm trying to find a local store that sells the 20WMGX2 and if I find one I'll take one home for a test.

Interesting. I wish i could tell you what the problem is.

I've read about the 204B problems and it seems like a lot of the people managed to fix it with using the reduced DVI frequency or custom scan rates using powerstrip. However most of the info I found was about nvidia cards. I might try tweaking a bit with powerstrip to see if it helps.

I'm also inclined to believe that the video card is the problem. It's an OEM card and Acer has not provided any updates since the laptop's release two years ago so I've been using Omega drivers to stay updated which may have an effect. I did try rolling back to Acer's drivers but it didn't help.

Obviously the best way to check is to find something else that has a DVI output as wittangamo suggested.

Thanks for the responses.

Any idea what kind of panel I've got in my Samsung 226bw?

Scaler-mcu: Mstar
Version: M-ME22H0CLA-1002

I don't know if that's an A S or C lol. I do not regret picking this up over the LG226 at all!

I don't know either (all it tells me is that it uses an Mstar scaler). They encrypted the service menu codes ever since.

xtknight,

I wish I knew also. In the mean time the 22" dell goes to the wife who doesn't mind it at all and I picked up the 226BW (30 day money back no restocking) to try it out for a bit and see how that goes.

Couple of questions:

1. Anyone have a profile for this monitor?
2. How do I get into the service menu?
3. Model indicates 226BW A. Does that mean anything as to which version of the panel you got?

Thank you!

1. A simple search for 226bw color profile will give you profiles for A, C, and S panels.
2. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...display/22inch_12.html

In this case you can take a look at the monitor?s service menu. Set both contrast and brightness at zero, press the Menu button, then press and hold the Source button for 5 seconds.

3. Your panel uses AU Optronics (use a 226BW A color profile).

First time I've posted, usually I find the answer I'm looking for without asking. I've been considering a monitor upgrade, 24" widescreen with a VA panel. The S-IPS panels are too expensive and the TN viewing angles are distracting.

All the positives and negatives can be found about the Samsung, BenQ, Dell and others because thurough Professional Reviews can be found on all.

I have read some forums discussing the LG L245WP & L246WP. Everyone that has one seems to be pleased with it. I have yet to find any Professional Review on the LG 245/246 other than DigitalVersus where the LG 245/246 image seems comparable to the popular competitors.

Fry's has the L246WP on sale for $499 and NCIX has the BenQ FP241W for $568 (there is a $50 rebate on the BenQ site) so pricing is similar.

Question: Are there any reliable reviews about the LG 245/246? Is there a reason that this monitor is not on the LCD Thread Recommended List?

I haven't seen any pro reviews of the LG 24" series, either. This is the main reason I haven't recommended them. Also I saw one at a store and it looked rather dull compared to a Samsung S-PVA-based one (Gateway 24").

The main one I recommend these days is the BenQ FP241W as you have already noticed. It seems as though you can't go wrong with it, almost every aspect about it is great.

The BenQ is one of the monitors I narrowed my selection down to. I did read some comments about BenQ customer/tech service being poor if there was an issue with the monitor (black out, dead/stuck pixels). Seems NCIX handles exchanges for the first 30 days, that's a +.

I am curious about the LG quality and customer/tech service. If the LG is purchased at a Best Buy or Circuit City and you have a problem you can take them back until you get a good one.

Your BenQ recommendation is appreciated, thanks.

It is hard for me to keep track of each company's customer service since it can vary so much.

Anyway, I did find this review on the LG L245WP. The review reads like a PC Mag review, not that detailed but the editor did give the LG a 9 as he did the BenQ.

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/moni...030120,49290558,00.htm

I have to praise Samsung for their 0 Dead Pixel ploicy, this means that the other manufacturers will have to do something similar at some point.

I usually don't shop too much at the local eletronic stores, but if you buy a non Samsung brand monitor from anyone else you have to deal with their unacceptable dead pixel policy. If you purchase a monitor from BB or CC and you have even one dead pixel or any other issue, you can take it back to the store until you get an acceptable one.

As you recommended, I have chosen the BenQ FP241W as my first choice. The 1:1 aspect issue seems to have been addressed but there is a "black out" issue that comes up in customer reviews and forums that concerns me and no clear resolution.

So it is important to purchase the BenQ from a source you can personally return it to. NCIX does however offer the "Express Coverage" (extra $$) that gives you a 0 dead pixel policy and cross shipment of your defective unit.

I'm still interested in the LG L245WP/L246WP and I'm leaning towards it as my second choice. I hope more info comes up on this thread and someone performs a more detailed review. If BB or CC has a sale on the LG that could be a strong influence.

I'm in the market for a 19" LCD to run FPS and strategy games. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a unit that would perform well and not break my budget .

My Soyo 24" came in yesterday

It's not as high quality as my Acer 20" glossy 8-bit (forgot the model number), but the pixel pitch is amazing. The viewing angles are decent. Overall very happy.

I have it hooked up to my laptop right now which only has VGA out, so I haven't got to see it with DVI yet.

My only problem is that there is a horizontal "flicker". It's barely noticeable except when I have solid backgrounds. It's like if you have analog cable and the connection is crappy so every once in a while a slight horizontal line will creep up the screen. What could cause this? Is it because I'm on VGA? Or am I not giving the screen enough juice?

I just noticed the 20WMGX2 at Newegg has free shipping. I was looking at it yesterday, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. I also notice they only have the silver version available. Between that and the price drops, I wonder if the 20WMGX2 is being phased out?

I don't believe they have this policy in the US yet, actually.

Most of these issues get resolved over time so I usually don't think much of them. If this is a continual problem though, then I suppose we have a problem.

Sorry I can't tell you much about those models specifically but HardForums is a good place for individual models since they tend to give each model its own big thread.

I don't honestly think the LG is bad at all but only the BenQ caught my eye with the great reviews of it (esp. with regards to uniformity and gradients). They both use the same panel, though initial calibration could still vary. I believe BenQ has the best input support of any 24", roughly on par with the Dell. The LGs have an Aspect Ratio Correction (ARC) feature but they may have issues inputting component video or VGA w/ certain resolutions.

MonitorSrc is also a good place to get this info but it appears to be down right now.

I am not sure about this but I have heard of the Soyo 24" simply having minor issues like this. It is probably because it is so cheap but it could also be because of lack of video driving power. You should always use DVI if you can, not that DVI is always perfect either but it would eliminate a couple possibilities.

Yes, it is being phased out at least in the US. It's possible the LCD20WGX2 Pro model will remain in some other countries.

What about the LCDs in the OP like the LG 19" models? What is your budget?

WHAT? I finally decide to bite the bullet and just go ahead and order this? Sheesh!

I know it doesn't really matter but I HATE that!

Anyway, no, you cannot get the rebate on the open box models. They are technically refurbished and will not come in a retail box. I bought a retail one. Today they did add free shipping.

Would that BenQ be a contender (even if not ideal) for print-target media processing? I'm still holding out for the 26" NEC that we discussed last week, but in the meantime I thought I'd get a mid-range 24" monitor. Then, when I get the 26" NEC, the 24" monitor will get passed on to my husband.

I'd like to keep the cost to around $500-600 -- even though it'll be a "temporary" monitor for me, and my husband probably won't be able to tell the difference, I don't want to buy a real cheap one. And of course I don't want to spend TOO much, since I'll be spending over a thou on the NEC.

So I was considering the 24" Dell Ultrasharp, which I had planned to get from Costco when they had it for $609, but now they list it (maybe it's an updated model) for $649. How does the BenQ stack up against the Dell?

BTW, is there a reason why Eizos are not listed? Is it because they are so expensive? (I hadn't really considered them because of the cost, but was curious to know hw they stack up against the NECs.)

TIA!

before you go for the Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC, have a look at this long thread on Dell Support Forums about the "ghosting problem":

http://www.dellcommunity.com/s..._date_ascending&page=1

BTW...friggin' IE7 (newly installed) doesn't want to let me use the Links popup!

I have the 2407WFP-HC and find the ghosting to be only a minor issue, at least on my sample. If you are to buy it, it would be better to wait for a sale on Dell's site, so as not to have any issue with warranty (Costco is a reseller) and 21-day no-penalty return policy. The price you quote is high. This model has previously been on sale for $569 in the US and $599 in Canada (what I paid). There is no updated model.

No harm in ordering one and returning it if you don't like it. Except for this ghosting, my monitor is as perfect as can be.
