Been pricing the NEC Spectraview II LCD2490 Edtion VS the NON-Spectraview edition.

NON-Spectraview II Edition is 1060.00 USD (US Dollars) at MacMall.

Spectraview II Edition is 1300.00 USD at MacMall.

Is Spectraview II worth 260.00 USD? Can I buy it later? I read that the one that comes with the monitor is specially specific to the NEC, different from a generic one, but can you buy the NEC Spectraview II "special" unit later from NEC?

You can buy SpectraView later off NEC later (includes NEC co-branded Eye One Display 2 and SV software), or even just the software itself.

The colorimeter is not really specific, but the software is.

And the separate Spectraview II Kit is little more than buying it together. Not much point in the bundle for me with current street pricing.

But check this pricing out from provantage online (don't know much about them yet)

Regular Price: $1099.99
Unadvertised Price: $1006.76
115 In Stock

Then again, the price of the DoubleSight 26" with a new stand would be 825.00 USD. MMmmmm...

I'm currently using an LG L206WTX after reading the stuff in this forum...
However, I'm considering an upgrade to a 27" LCD

I've narrowed it down to the Samsung 275T+ or the Dell 2707WFP.
I'll be using it for a little bit of everything. Programming, HD movies, gaming.

Any recommendations or special considerations?

I think the DoubleSight DS-263N 25.5" is a much better choice for you, because the panel is superior to the two 27"s you mentioned (it has less input lag, less color shift), and it is cheaper.

I had almost decided on the 275T+, mostly because it also has HDMI/component.

But, I know there are adapters out there for HDMI/component to VGA/DVI-D

Are these adapters reliable? Do they maintain quality?

Not sure if you know about them or not, but thought I'd ask. I had seen the doublesight screen, and liked that it was IPS as opposed to VA or TN, and the second issue with the doublesight is the availability in Canada.

I'm likely going to also be hooking up (on occasion) an Xbox360/gamecube/Wii to this screen...with this taken into account...would the doublesight still be a good choice?

I really don't know. All of my devices have had VGA/DVI output. I'd assume they are decent but I am not the best to consult on that matter.

I don't think the 27" panels would be very good for that either (Gamecube is 480i, Wii 480p?) It would look much better on an analog set.

The Xbox would probably look good if you can find an adapter or you have one with a VGA or HDMI output. The DS-263N has two DVI(HDMI) ports, one DVI-D+DVI-A [DVI-I] and one DVI-D.

I think I will buy the DoubleSight 26", and upgrade the stand. Sure it has the wide color gamut problem, but I think the money issue just hit home. I would rather just have a good deal at this point, and I doubt I will notice the color problems that much in movies and games. And this monitor totally solves my lag issue, not to mention I am not a color pro yet. Perhaps when i am, I will be richer. When LCDs improve, I will make the big upgrade later.

Alright then, just make sure you use color profiles if you upload your images/art anywhere. The DS is indeed a great deal.

So after a little more reading around (mostly on hardforum and here) I've also started to look at *gasp* gateway monitors.

Specifically, the FHD2400, and the XHD3000 (though the price point for this is a little high, I haven't ruled it out). From what I can tell, the XHD3000 is simply a fantastic monitor, although apparently it features a 72% gamut? It is also an S-PVA as opposed to an IPS, but the wide gamut on the larger IPS screens is a bit of a turn-off for me. I'm primarily going to be using this monitor for gaming and watching movies, and the ability of the XHD3000 to upscale to its native 2560x1600 resolution is a HUGE selling point for me. The HQV scaling chip is primarily what drives it's price up I believe, though the integrated speaker is a bit of a turnoff (fortunately it can be removed).

I'm still considering the DS-263N primarily because it is a great price point and the pixel pitch is nice, and I think the 1.5" less off a 27" screen is well worth sacrificing for a better pixel pitch. However, the same argument is motivating me to look more into 24" screens than I initially planned on. I'm more considering getting 2 24" screens or 1 30" at the moment.

Any thoughts on the 30"?

The 24" FHD2400 is listed in this thread, while the XHD3000 is not.

It's expensive and had some type of QC problem as far as I can remember. It's also an S-PVA panel, inferior to IPS no matter how expensive it is. The standard gamut is attractive to content producers, but not as much to typical consumers who like vibrant colors.

Forget 24" since the cheapest 24" IPS (in the US) is over $1000 (LCD2490WUXi).

The 26" IPS DS-263N is a really good deal, and nothing else exists like it right now except the Planar PX2611W which is a tad more expensive, and lacks the True Wide polarizer.

Any thoughts on the 30"?

I hadn't listed the XHD3000 since it had QC problems and the cheaper 3007WFP-HC/LP3065 are IPS panels.

Hey all, I've been following this thread for quite some time now as I've just started wrapping up my first gaming rig. I've studied the lists as well as looked at several reviews, and slowly narrowed down options, but now I'm at a point where I think experience may be the deciding factor.

After much deliberation I'm stuck between these two...

DoubleSight DS-263N

BenQ G2400W

I realize the DS is an IPS panel, but heard great things about the G2400W even though it is a TN. Big price difference and I'm not sure if the TN would bug me much or not considering the only purpose of the rig is gaming and not photo editing. I can't say for sure though, as I have never owned a TN panel monitor.

Not to mention the 24" DS is apparently a VA panel and I've considered it, although I have heard some say they would rather opt for a solid TN over a VA. *shrugs*

Anyways, thanks for the insight.

I looked but I am finding that the pricing of the desk arms is high, and the size of the 26" DoubleSight is a tough one to buy for. The Erogtron Widescreen Lift desk stand is ok, not great looking, and now I am thinking that I am better off vesting that $150.00 USD of money into a LCD model that already has a good stand, or just sticking with the one that comes with the DoubleSight.

To top it off, what I want is simply not on the market. I only want my display to have low input lag, HDCP, non wide color gamut, a quality somewhat fast response timed 23-24 widescreen S-IPS/H-ISP panel with a polarizer, that does not cost a ton, and two D-DVI ports (or one HDMI, and the other D-DVI). And would attractive looks and quality build be too much to ask for? Oh and it must play nice with the PS3.

The two closest I have found right this second are the NEC 2490 and the DoubleSight 26". And as xtknight can attest, I can't make up my mind. The NEC has higher input lag/cost, while the DoubleSight has cheap looking build/stand, and unwanted wide color gamut.

However, I have hope that Apple will soon update their line to HDCP without adding wide color gamut. I hear that Hazro will update to HDCP in the next logic revision this year, and will be releasing to the US at some point. Maybe without adding wide color gamut to the 23" and 24" (the 26" and 30" are wide color gamut now). The Hazro guys are cool for using only S-IPS/H-IPS panels, and are the sexiest black aluminum panels this side of an Apple Cinema Display. I look at the pictures and think "now that's what I want my LCDs to look like". Too bad they are only in the UK and are not HDCP right now (well, the 30" is, but that won't play well with my PS3). I have to read more reviews on Hazro though.

For now, I am just going to take a wait and read approach. I may buy something decent but cheap to hold me over, with the DoubleSight 26" being at the top of that hold me over list.

I may be clueless on which monitor I want, but I decided that whatever it is, my budget limit is 1100.00 USD. Thats enough to get the NEC 2490 delivered, or any 1000.00 LCD display with shipping.

BTW, unlike my LCD Display choice, I have the audio nailed down.

The Aego M 2.1 Speakers are the perfect companion to any display.

The cost of a good monitor is just staggering. I want an IPS monitor. A 22" one would be just right. But, there aren't any. 26" is just too big. AFAICS, that pretty much means the NEC LCD2490WUXi. That costs about $1,200 at Newegg. For $970, I can build an ENTIRE computer system. The darn monitor costs 24% more than the computer it would be connected to.

I cry every time I think that I wanted to buy a NEC 20WMGX2 but put it off too long. It was just a tad (maybe a smidgen) too small, but my goodness, the picture (and the price)!

25.5" isn't actually that big, truth is that 24" have pixel pitch comparable to 17" screens, and those are almost not being used by anybody anymore..

I think the G2400W is fine for you if you are primarily a gamer. But if you are at all willing to go for the DS-263N, then I say by all means do so. It has low input lag as well (although some have stated that somehow the 24" TNs "feel" faster). Most are happy with the DS-263N's gaming performance and even more so thrilled with its other properties that excel over TNs (viewing angle, color saturation, default color calibration).

I was looking at these also. Big difference in price point for me. Almost double for the other panel 26 doublesight. Where did you buy yours?

There's a point where getting smaller might reduce clarity because like I said earlier, DPI adjustment may not be feasible.
Addendum to adamtron5000: What you can do is experiment with windows settings such as ClearType in WindowsXP: http://www.microsoft.com/typog...rtype/tuner/Step1.aspx
You can also increase system font DPI under display settings. This will look very weird in the beginning and some programs might get their textoutput cut and jumbled. You get used to it though. I use 125% DPI all the time nowadays. I also use the Opera browser because it has a great zoom function that properly scales all fonts and also images.

Also note that truetype fonts rendering style in windows tend to have a thickness threshold at regular zoom intervals. Ie: slightly zoomed fonts looks a bit 'thin'. One just have to increase zoom until it looks good enough.

I am in New Zealand and looking for a 24" monitor.

The NEC 2690 is not sold here, so instead I am considering:
HP 2465, Dell 2408 or Samsung 245T (listed in order of price). Applications include photo-editing (advanced amateur), programming and general office apps.

Thoughts please.
