Does anyone have experience with the Hyundai W240D-PVA? Good deal, or are there better alternatives?

Cheers

Ok, I'm going to pull the trigger on a BenQ monitor after reading good feedback here, thanks guys.
But I am very confused about which monitor to get. With the promo code, the V2400W is about the same price as the G2400W and G2400WD. I am looking for the best monitor for fast fps gaming on the PC over DVI and the XBOX 360 over HDMI. I know it is a TN, but I am hoping the vertical viewing angle isn't horrible like the Gateway FHD2400 I had to return. That is why I am leary of buying online where it is a pain to return it. I also need the model with the speaker output to hook up to a stereo system for the XBOX HDMI use. From what I see at face to face, the older G2400W is actually faster/less lag than the new V2400W?
http://www.digitalversus.com/d...&mo2=304&p2=2943&ph=12
I don't care about the slight difference in prices of these 3 models, or the external looks. I just want to get the best one for me (best viewing angle vertically, best picture, and lowest lag, fastest response time and all the input/outputs I need). Can someone who has used two or three of these models let me know which to buy? And a stuck pixel would definately drive me crazy, so I assume I should buy directly from Benq in case I need to return it. Thanx

I do believe the G2400WD and V2400W use the same panel, and that the panel is a bit newer than the G2400Ws. It's basically the same, but I do believe the polarizer is slightly different. I can attest to this on the V2400W. The blacks now have a very slight bluish cast (in the slight bleeding area at the bottom of the panel) as opposed to the greyish cast on the G2400W, but the V2400W that I have displays less slight clouding and mura than the G2400W. Neither one is bad, just the slight amount that there is of this on the G2400W (mine) is basically eliminated on the V2400W.

Either way, all the same strengths of the G2400W are preserved on the V2400W. Some extreme viewing angles are different but the normal viewing angles are the same. The overdrive can cause some inverse ghosting on the desktop, but nothing overly visible in games.

I have tried the dynamic contrast feature on the V2400W but I usually don't use it. It's not bad, but the "movie" mode without the dynamic contrast suffices to increase panel color saturation and vibrancy without overly enriching colors.

All in all, it is also low input lag, same viewing angles (good for TN, inferior vertically to VA or IPS) and good sRGB and "standard" mode color calibration (DE94 of 1.30 and 1.16 respectively in comparison to sRGB using BasicColor 4.1.8 for Windows with my I1Display2 colorimeter). One important thing that I have realized is that the V2400W has a contrast ratio that is around 900:1 without dynamic contrast. The G2400W that I have test around 650 to 700:1. Digital versus has the contrast on the V2400W listed as lower, but I was using both panels at 50 contrast and 50 brightness to check. The blacks on the V2400W are pretty good too. At 50 brightness I registered 0.14 cdm/2 which is a 130 to 140 cdm/2 white point brightness. Not bad.

Most HF users who have gotten it are happy. One did not like the V2400W in comparison to their Samsung 245BW, but so far everyone else seems to like it.

Regards,

Thanks in advance.

I don't know, but I might expect something like it. They already have a decent 26" and lower lineup.
...

Looks like DoubleSight is coming out with a 30" IPS. I got the following response from them them when I asked:

Yes we are actually getting ready to release a new Product Family of LCD Monitors. The new model information will be available from our retailers in about a week. The actual products will ship late July. The models and their panels are as follows:

New 5 Series for July:
DS-245W - 24" S-PVA
DS-265W - 26" LG-IPS
DS-275W - 27" S-PVA
DS-305W - 30" LG-IPS

So if you can wait a few weeks, we would appreciate you giving ours a try.

Hi I am new here and was reading through as much as I could about this thread. I am looking to get a larger LCD monitor. I have been looking at two monitors one of them being the Double Sight DS-263N that comes highly recommended and people have had nice things to say about it, and at $720 + shipping I do not think that is a bad price.

Another monitor I had been looking at is Samsung 275T+ At $980 + shipping it is a bit more than the Double Sight.

I want a monitor that is more than 24" and am willing to spend around $1000, I would use it primarily for gaming, and occasional movie watching but mostly gaming. I guess I want to know if there are some other monitors I should be looking at? Does the extra $260 for the Samsung worth it? Any help would be appreciated and if anyone has anymore suggestions for monitors in that price range I should be looking at please let me know.

Thank you.

xtknight, what an amazingly comprehensize resource this thread is! Thanks to you and everyone else that's helping out in here for the hard work. You've taken my LCD monitor selection paralysis to the next level.

I've honed in on the LG L227WT, natch, because I like to play lots of games. Before I jump on it, I want to confirm that it will perform well with a 360 and a ps3, too. I don't even have one yet, but I want to be able to use it with my monitor when I do get one. The L227WT is HDCP compliant, so that's not a concern. Is there anything else I should be aware of before I purchase?

What do you guys think of the DoubleSight DS-245W for $520 shipped?

s-pva panel w/ 6ms response time
no hdmi (which pretty much sucks)

hi everyone. wow this is a long read with how big this topic is, my eyes hurt from my old 19inch lcd lol.

Okay was wondering if i could get a recomendation on a lcd.

not sure if i want to go 22 inch or 24 inch, my main concern is that the higher res will hurt performance in games. Not sure if i should even worry about that though since ill be using a new 280 gtx card?

i mainly use the pc to play games like dark age of camelot, age of conan, worlf of warcraft and soon to be warhammer, spend allot of time playing these. I also use it to surf the web and watch a movie here and there.

Been looking at the dell 2408 wfp and been wondering if that might be the right choice for me or if there is something else i should consider? also was wondering if the 2408wfp had any ghosting issues or pretty much a non issue.

BenQ v2400w and G2400WD can you see the bios/bootup screens with DVI? I am asking for someone at Hard Forums with this question:
I would like to know if the V2400W or the G2400WD have any problems displaying the bios with a newer (Nvidia 8,9 series) video card if anyone knows, please chime in. I guess worst case scenario, when you need to get into the bios just use it VGA. It comes with a VGA cable and I assume you have a DVI cable, with a new graphics card you can have both hooked up to these monitors at the same time and chose whichever works (though you may have to unplug the other). Can anyone verify that they can see the bootup/bios screens with these monitors over DVI?

i just came across a deal for the dell 3008WFP for $1500, but honestly, the only thing holding me back from it is because i don't see it on the first post here! LOL I was wanting the LCD3090, but not for more than $1600. so, here i am. should i just get the dell?

edit - i'll be using it for photo/video editing, internet browsing & general office work, some high res gaming, & watching HDTV via satellite (in that order)

xtknight, I want to thank you once again for helping to choose the Dell 2408w for my new monitor. I had ordered it on the 18th and then received it on the 23rd. I put it together and set it up, ran a few movies on it and wow it looked great. I am so glad to have gotten this LCD, hopefully this will last me for 5-10 years until the next technology becomes mainstrean.

My guess why the Dell 3008 is not recommended:
1. It's obviously overpriced. About $1500-1600 would be fair for it for the time being.
2. At least HDMI and component inputs don't support video properly (overscan, cropping) - confirmed. Other analog inputs most probably do the same. Two DVI must be workable, though.
3. Unprecedented history of defective units return, months of delay of ordered product.
4. High input lag by design.

i personaly really love the glossy screen and want a 24 inch. i see the gateway listed in the gaming section but dont see the hp 2408h listed any place.

is the 2408h just a poor monitor or not as good as the gateway?

There is so much good info here my brain hurts... but being who I am I threw caution to the wind and bought an Acer AL2416Wbsd... I really wanted a 24" Widescreen LCD, but $500+ was over my budget. So, I picked this one up for $350 at my local TigerDirect but only after I looked over their demo unit for 3 days. Now that I have it home I can see that I have been deceived... I knew going in that this was a TN panel, but my limited experience didn't send up any flags when I did not notice any color shift when tilting or viewing the demo model at different angles... their demo must be an older version when they used PVA panels. This one color shifts as soon as I move off center in the least... live and learn...

I mostly use my PC for web browsing, Word, Excel, and home office type stuff. But I do dabble in photo and graphics editing for the web. Should I decide to return this monitor, what would be a better choice for under $400? I'd love to have the 26" DoubleSight monitor, but that is about double my budget...

**** How big of a difference is there between the 2490 and the 2690. I'm a daytrader and want the easiest on the eyes monitor. I do a lot of research and great text is very important.

Color is also important but I am not a pro photo user. The 2690 in the review states there are some horizontal lines. Are those lines present on the 2490?

Which monitor is clearer? If I go with the 2490 is it worth giving up the larger text and wide gamut of the 2690 for a clearer no horizontial lines monitor???

I sit about 20inches away from the monitors. I have a 2405 dell and an older Sony 20.1 as well as an older 23inch Apple. The NEC will replace one of the monitors.

THanks.

Tradewell, I just bought a LCD2490 (thanks to xtknight and others on this forum who steered me to it). I tried out both the 2490 and 2690 at the NEC distributor. Both monitors have the same resolution, but the 2690 is larger, which means larger pixels. In my aging eyes text looked clearer on the 2490 monitor, especially smaller fonts, mainly because the slightly larger pixels on the 2690 did give them more of a jagged appearance.

I didn't notice any horizontal lines on the 2690. After using the 2490 for about a week now, I can assure you there are no horizontal lines to be seen on it.

Even the NEC sales manager recommended the 2490 over the 2690, saying only photo and video editors would prefer the 2690 because of its wider color gamut.

So far I'm very satisfied with the 2490. The only thing I can compare it to is my notebook computer screen, and the image quality difference is like night and day.

Actually, I think that might help me decide which monitor I'll be buying too. I've been stuck trying to decide on different monitors but I think my eyes might like the 24 better now.

I think I'll get the BenQ 24" now. Thanks for the input, even if it was regarding other monitors.

Question about color calibrators!

First, thanks to xtknight and others for steering me through the confusing task of choosing my first LCD monitor for graphics and animation work. I got the NEC LCD2490WUXi and so far am delighted with it.

Now I wonder whether anyone can steer me to some trustworthy professional reviews of color calibrators. I need to set up some accurate-as-possible profiles for photo, graphics and TV (NTSC and PAL) output. Looking at the common calibration hardware - Huey, EyeOne and Sypder 2 and 3 - all the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere tend to vary from praising each one to the skies down to blaming it for all the evils upon this earth. Most reviews focus way too much on customer service. I just want some recommendations as to which one actually works best.

If someone can point me to reliable professional reviews, or has advice to offer, I would appreciate it.

I've had KDS CRTs in the past and they weren't bad and I really don't see a lot of difference in the specs for the 26" KDS or the 24" BenQ but they're the same price. The Sceptre is nice and cheap but no HDMI nor HDCP. The 24" KDS is cheap but has a low contrast ratio. That's all I can see, I hoped you might be able to see something that I missed.

I don't go off of specifications, only reviews, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to tell you the differences. In my mind there is not a single specification you can trust, except viewing angle, which indicates whether it is a TN, VA, or IPS panel (if you pay attention to what contrast ratio the viewing angle was measured at, 5:1 or 10:1). The brightness rating is usually reliable too, but that's about it.

I do spend less than 50% of my time gaming but I do want good gaming performance and I want movies/tv to look good too. When I do play games it's almost always FPS shooters. As far as my other workstation apps/web browsing/etc, any monitor would be fine.

My current basic HW specs are:
Abit ab9-pro
Intel C2D 6600
2G DDR2 Ram (handles 8G with 64Bit OS)
XP-Pro (may be upgrading to Vista64 when they work out more bugs)
Asus EN8800GT 512M (DVI (no HDMI))
HP p1230 22" CRT

Thanks for the input...

OK I assume you're looking for a replacement for the sometimes-gaming machine.

In that case, I would still recommend one of the VA panels. As you said you spend less than half of your time gaming. Therefore, a VA panel will provide a great experience for the rest of your use, and probably a perfectly acceptable one for gaming as well. If you gamed most of the time then it *might* have been worth it to sacrifice contrast for speed and get a TN panel, but I doubt that is worth it in your case.

The HP LP2465 and ViewSonic VX2435wm are good VA panel choices.

And if you don't edit photos (sRGB) for a living, the Dell 2408 is probably the best choice due to the wide gamut backlight. If you do edit sRGB photos a lot, the VX is best due to the good default color calibration. If you don't edit photos at all and prefer the design of the HP, you can go for that too, although I recommend the 2408WFP.

I don't really know, but I will try and look at V2400 reviews in the next few days and recommend it if needed.

For the price, there are better alternatives. That is a TN panel from what I can tell but either way as I haven't heard much about the PVA version (if one exists) I don't think it's worth the confusion.

See if the Dell 2408WFP, ViewSonic VX2435wm, or HP LP2465 LCDs are suitable for you.

What kind of deal do you have on the Hyundai W240D-PVA and do you know if it's a PVA for sure?

If mostly gaming, the DoubleSight is the best choice for you. It is cheaper, and it is faster than the 275T.

I might recommend the 275T for TV watching as it has higher brightness and contrast than the DS-263N. Even then it's debatable. And for everything else it is not debatable, the DS-263N is a winner all-around. The 275T may have better connectivity for consoles and DVRs, though.

I would love to be able to help you with that, but without owning a L227WT or seeing one hooked up to a console, there is no way I can tell you for sure.

Sometimes the negotiation and handshaking through the monitor recognition protocol (DDC) can cause problems for consoles with monitors. If that was too much to digest, I mean that when the PS3 and monitor talk to each other, they don't always get along.

You may also see problems with scaling the signal (although you'd very likely see the same issues with a PC output set to `Monitor Scaling`). And if the monitor has other analog types of inputs like component these can be problematic as well (although, the L227WT does not).

I would check on HardForum for experiences with this. I will also probably add a section to the first post about console compatibility because i am asked this often and unable to provide an answer other than "I don't know".
