I purchased the 22" LG Flatron L227WTG today at Best Buy with a price match for Fry's and a discount I had for a total out the door of $283. It has no dead pixels and very little bleeding.

From the couple hours that I've used it, I'm VERY impressed. I thought the gloss might bother me when I looked at it in the store, but I have hardly noticed it since setting it up at home. All I notice is the amazing picture it gives. Games are amazing, no ghosting or input lag at ALL.

Very impressed. Thanks for the recommendations and all the input on this thread guys, especially xtknight!

I read the op & the recommendations, but most of them are way outside my budget.

What do you recommend for something that fits these specs:
- Wide screen
- 20-22"
- $200-300 price range (willing to go a bit over $300 if it will get me a substantially better display)
- Used for (in order of importance):
--o 1. RAW photo developing/processing in Lightroom (primarily for the web)
--o 2. Movies & TV Shows (multiple people watching)
--o 2. Occasional competitive online gaming (FPS & RTS)
--o 3. Music production & DJing in Live
--o 4. Everything else (mostly web browsing & plain text editing)

Thank you!

You can't really expect a photo editing display for $200-300. Nonetheless, the HP LP2065 is as good as you're going to get and it cost just a little over that, after a rebate. It used to be a flat $300 so you may find it cheaper elsewhere. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...16824176053&Tpk=lp2065

Choices are limited and there's no widescreen display that matches those specs as well as the LP2065. The VA/IPS panel in the LP2065 really benefits the 'multiple people watching' part because of the viewing angle.

I suspected that might be the case. Thanks for the input.

What would you recommend if I took out photo editing from the list of uses? I can't afford to drop on a really nice LCD right now, but my old giant CRT really needs to go, so I'm going to get a decent cheap LCD right now, and get a second monitor for photo editing when I can afford it.

Well, it's a shame you can't just grab the LP2065. You wouldn't need to get another LCD later if you could.

Otherwise go for the Acer AL2216wbd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...24009094&Tpk=al2216wbd

I would have jumped on the LP2065 right away if it was wide screen. I'm set on getting a wide screen at the moment.

I still haven't made a purchase, and as a result I've found myself with a larger budget of around $400. It seems that still leaves me in TN territory for the most part, but I'm now looking at larger 24" screens, preferably with HDMI so I can can connect the new gaming consoles if I get one. Should I expect better image quality out of the recommended 24" TNs at this price range compared to the 22" Acer, or are they similar besides their size? I'm specifically looking into the BenQ G2400WD and the Samsung 245BW. From what I gather, the BenQ out performs the Samsung, but while the recommendation post mentions both as value photo editors at sone point, the Samsung is what is recommended in the Photo Editing/Web Design category. What advantage does the Samsung have over the BenQ in this respect?

I'm also curious about the two cheapest non-TN wide screen options: the Westinghouse L2410NM and the Lenovo ThinkVision L220X. Unfortunately, it seems both now cost around $500 instead of the listed $400, but would either of these be a significant step up in quality compared to the BenQ? Also, what keeps these from being recommended in the web targeted photo editing category?

Thanks again xtknight...this service is greatly appreciated.

Hej XTknight,

Have received my new 3008WFP. Its an new A02 and i cant find any defect pixels at all with all color backgrounds using UndeadPixel.
The video thing with the white thingys is still here, but i knew it wasnt something bad. Like u said, something like an videobuffer.
There is also bit less bleeding and the uniformity is somewhat better, too.

EDIT: Have removed the foam, with my mouths breath and using microfiber, this cant hurt right?

Im shining with my flashlight on it, otherwise i cant notice it.
Hope u can tell its nothing... dont wanna send all back and stuff. Further, panel gives allmost ZERO bleeding.

Now the very important question:
If i look very close-up on the monitor, i can spot blue dots (very un-bright, some are more bright). This is on allmost all places, you allmost cant notice them from 30 cm distance.
I saw this on my previous one too, is this normal or is this cause of my cleaning?

Anyone know about the Samsung 2443bwx? its a 24 inch monitor by Samsung that i saw at costco for 350. From the little i read online its suppose to be a replacement for the 245bw but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on the monitor. I'm wondering if it would be a decent monitor for some light gaming and some movie watching.

Update on my end, my original concern at not finding a good recommended monitor in Canada was for naught.

Scrounging around I found one of the recommended monitors from the first page, the 22" LG L227WT, 1680x1050 (16:10). In Glossy version at Futureshop in Canada online or in brick and mortar to be what I needed just listed as "Flatron" L227WTG listed on Upper Left icon, but LG L227WTG-PF 22" on receipt.

So a bit of searching and they are around, and I couldn't have been more happy with my purchase. Unsure of taking the glossy plunge at first it seems to be not to big of an issue as I was hesitant to go that route, but is not to much of a hassle at all minus fingerprint upkeep and glares if your not careful about positioning.

Along with the added benefits have having a good monitor picked with no dead pixels and no issues to even point a finger at minus the somewhat manual required entry to try and fine tune your own Red, Green and Blues to perfection along with brightness, contrast and gamma are hardly concerns at all, and just come down to personal preference.

My initial concern with my graphics card not handling a wide screen was for naught, because i was pretty sure 22" wouldn't be to overpowering and it is the case.. Not sure about bigger in the 24" - 26" range would operate on my somewhat aging system, but by then I should be using a better rig and if I go further and decide to continue chasing bigger and badder monitors.. maybe something like a doublesight 26"! I can only hope and pray I get upgraded sooner then later for that choice though

Thanks for your previous words of encouragement earlier and your helpful and insightful LCD Thread!

I'm considering buying a ViewSonic VX2255wmb. It's a reasonable price (albiet a touch high for my budget), good size and good reviews and Viewsonics 1-dead pixel policy is quite appealing. The only concerns I have are the glossy frame reflecting my window which is back and to the left of the monitor - i'd prefer flat black but nothing I've found met my price/quality/warranty criteria - and non-native resolutions.

I have a meager 7900gs and I typically play games in a fairly low resolution (1024x768) to get solid framerates. I seriously doubt, without severely dropping game details to make games ugly, that I'll be able to run TF2 or Stalker in 1680 resolution. Additionally, from time to time I like to replay older games that won't have widescreen resolution options. How well does it display lower widescreen AND (lower) non-widescreen resolutions?

So far the the G2400WD from BenQ looks like the best buy. I've read alot of good reviews about it, as well as your recommendations here and for 299 (on sale at newegg before) to 350 Canadian, you can't beat the price. It's probably the top on my list so far, but about those Doublesights....

Is Doublesight remaking or releasing a new model of the 24" or 26" monitors? I remember they had them on Newegg, both with IPS panels for the best price compared to anything else with the same panel, but now they aren't available.

DoubleSight has only had an S-PVA 24". The new DS-265W is upcoming with a better stand and better connectivity, and the DS-263N was discontinued.

I saw they released the 30" with an IPS panel as well, for around a thousand bucks, but that's still a bit much for my budget. Wasn't sure if that is what you were referring to by waiting for them.

Edit: I live in Niagara Falls, which seems to make it harder to find good prices on monitors. Newegg has such a better selection compared to NCIX. Got any recommendations on websites / retailers?

Well unfortunately I don't think the DoubleSight or Planar is available in your area.

Are you sure Newegg doesn't ship there? If not, I'm sorry, I don't know Canadian retailers that well. There isn't much I can do for you. There is the IPS NEC LCD2490WUXi but this is all that I am aware of beyond the Planar and DoubleSight (and expensive LaCies).

Your resources are probably more extensive then mine xtknight, but are you sure the doublesight 26" (old and new) are not IPS? Seems a lot of misguided information if thats the case, a few other sources list it as IPS, but could just be misguided and are actually S-PVA...

DS-245W - 24" S-PVA
DS-265W - 26" LG-IPS
DS-275W - 27" S-PVA
DS-305W - 30" LG-IPS

and I believe the 3 series also had similar panels

The 24" is S-PVA, but I didn't say the 26" were. Both 26" are H-IPS, with no panel lottery. I hope this clarifies it.

Hi everybody,
I am looking for a 26 ou 27 inches for graphism (photo + video) ans office work. I am a photographer so color accuracy is important for me. And I would like to pivot the panel in portrait mode. I see that most of the new panel are Wide Gamut. It is ok IF (and only if) I can calibrate the sRGB mode correctly to have a very good color accuracy. The screen must also be pleasant for the because I can often stay more that 12 hours front of the monitor. I am not a professionnal but I like image quality (a great amateur?). So would be your suggestions?

- 26'' or 27''
- Pivot mode
- Color accuracy for photo (especially sRGB but sometimes Adobe RGB), video, office work
- eye-strain friendly
- Between 850$ and 1100$ (if I can find a good deal... I am patient!)

I saw those interesting:

Dell 2709w
NEC LCD2690WUXi (but $$)
Planar PX2611W (seem good)
SX2761W (but $$$$)
Doublesight (the old or the new)
Other ideas??

I am a bit afraid of the wide gamut because most of my work is on sRGB mode. But I know that friefox and vista and Photoshop can support icc. So if the panel is well calibrated, I suppose that wide gamut will not be a problem. But I'm still a bit afraid...Is it normal, doctor?

Thanks a lot!

Question, with ONLY gaming as top priority, would the LG L227WT still be the top choice with input lag being the main concern (First Person Shooters!) and response time being right behind/next to it as another top concern?

Or is there a panel that would be better now?

I know MLG uses the Viewsonic NX2232w.

Anyways thanks in advance.

Also, just to make sure in case the LG is still the best, the L227WTGPF is the same thing as the reviewed L227WT right....?

Are there any decent, 20"-22" IPS(or similar quality) panels around anymore? I wanted an original 2005FPW, but it was turned into a panel lottery before I had the money.. Then the 20WMGX2 was discontinued before I had the money..

Are either of these monitors good for gaming plus photo editing?

I'm currently running with two 20" Sceptre monitors (The X20WG-Naga and X20G-Naga III). I bought them a year apart mainly because of the price. The picture quality, to me, is good enough but the physical quality of both of them has turned out to be trash. For one reason or another, I'm looking to replace both of them now.

From what I'm reading here, the LG L227WTG-PF is one of the highest recommended monitors right now. Two reasons that I'm not too thrilled with that monitor is I don't want to spend close to $700 to replace my two monitors, and I'm worried that 22" may be too big for the space I have. (My 20" monitors is just about perfect.)

Now, I mentioned not wanting to spend $700 because price is a concern, but I'm not going to let it dictate what I buy this time around. (Buying the Sceptres based on price was a mistake.) I'd like to get two 20" monitors for between $400-500, but I'll spend more if the recommendation is good enough.

My main use is gaming. Are there any 20" monitors that can be recommended as highly as the LG L227WTG-PF?

Thanks!

Edit: Feel free to tell me the LG L227WTG-PF is going to be my best bet. I'll accept that answer, I'd just like to know if there are 20" models I'm overlooking first. =)

For anybody interested (from Director of Sales @ Doublesight):

"I am sorry, but there were some delays in releasing the new DS-265W. The first release actually shipped this week. Look for them at NewEgg.com later this week."

HP LP2065 is 20" 1600x1200 resolution S-IPS with noticeable input lag (in 3D shooters) and matte finish anti-glare (which is not a good thing unless reflections cannot be avoided - grey especially shows some scattering of light). Pixel pitch is small and overall suits slower games very well.

Hmm, looks like the HP LP2475w replaces or at least supplements the LP2465. It adds HDMI and Displayport. 400cd/m^2 brightness instead of 500cd/m^2, but it offers a 102% color gamut as well.

I wonder how input lag is...

I returned my Samsung 2232BW+ and got the HP w2207h instead. Much better colors, blacks and whites. The glossy screen is really nice plus I got a Samsung panel. STM003.

The problem however is that I just had to pick the one with the dead pixels, or sub pixels actually, and they are right in the middle of the screen. I've tried rubbing, flicking and color changing it without any success. For $400 I can't accept that so I'll be taking it back.

Best Buy said they couldn't refund me my money last time because it was over $250. What a joke. I pay cash and I get the option of receiving a company check in who knows how many weeks or paying extra for another monitor. I wasn't really thrilled with those choices but decided on the w2207h anyway just to try it. If not for the dead sub pixels I would keep it. It's awesome!

Oh, and the BB employee thought I was completely mad when I told him I was looking for a certain revision on the box! Ha! Of course when I got home and looked at the service menu I confirmed that I had indeed found a Samsung.

Hi, I'm back just to give my opinion on the screen I bought- the Samsung 2243BW
it was a bit of a gamble when I bought since I haven't seen it before and there's not even one professional review of it on the web.
Anyway it was a good gamble
the screen is awesome, especially for TN (seen VA panels as well as bunch of TN's), the colors are wonderful, except for a bit of brightness haven't touched any of the settings and the view is wonderful.
For movies I use MagicBright in "Sport" or "Movies", and it's great, HD recommended with screen like that but if you watch not from too close(1+ meters) also normal quality is fine.
The stand is also awesome, I use on a daily basis all 4 options which are- tilt(mostly good to straighten the monitor with your eyes since it's TN so viewing angles aren't perfect to say the least, and to watch movies from your bed ) swivel- another great option, height adjustment, and pivot which is great for certain pictures and for reading documents.

Overall I'm definetly satisfied with the screen- wise bought.

I located a Best Buy within 45 minutes of my home with the 22" LG L227WTG-PF in stock. Armed with the knowledge and expertise of xtknight I drove there a week ago today and found the monitor display to the rear of the store.

They had 5 separate 22" monitors displayed near each other with movies playing. I did not know if the L227 was even being displayed. I also had no idea what brands were the others and kept a considerable distance to get a good view of all without having to move.

I fully understand there are hundreds of factors which can effect each one displayed. I chose the one I thought had the best picture. I got closer to see which brand and you guessed it ,the L227. The only other one that was close to the picture quality was a Samsung. It had a dullness to it though that was really amplified being next to the L227.

I chose a lucky box of about 4 on the sales floor and paid with tax a total of $307. The whole way home I was concerned it may have dead pixels.

Best Buy has a 14 day return policy so I was able to wait until last night to actually connect it to a PC I custom built and finished yesterday.

I plugged it in, turned on the PC and the Asus splash screen appears bright and pixel FREE. Woohoo. /phew

After loading all the software yesterday and today I am patching Warhammer Online as I type this to game test the monitor. It is still only beta but it will still be a decent test.

Everything else looks great and no complaints. The brightness default is 100% so I turned that down to 75% but that is all I touched.

Does anybody have some good game settings for the L227they can share? This is my first LCD.

Thank you xtknight and this forum. Thumbs up for the L227.

These are basically equivalent, except the BW has a matte finish and the GW a glossy one. I'd go for the glossy personally due to improved contrast.

My 7800GT runs STALKER respectably at 1680x1050.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you how well it scales, but you can look at the prad review: http://prad.de/en/monitore/rev...t10.html#Interpolation

I highly, highly suggest going for the standard gamut 24" LCD2490WUXi instead. Otherwise, it's more of a headache. The LCD2690WUXi and sRGB profile would work alright, but it's still a headache and you still won't get the color accuracy you can with a true sRGB display like the LCD2490. If you are concerned about color accuracy as you say you are then the LCD24 is a better choice.
