With the end result that there is not enough airflow through the case, and hot air concentrates at the top.

A small exhaust fan mounted up there would alleviate this. Do you think there is any risk of damaging the panel by introducing (slight) forced air flow through the case, and are there any other considerations? Or is the heat at the top even anything to worry about .. I gotta admit I'm a little paranoid about babying this thing, since it's only under a refurb warranty.

I doubt that's going to damage anything. And the heat at the top probably isn't something to worry about. If you get the panel staining at the top, cooling won't help.

Thanks and I'm grateful for all of your help. I believe I have made the best LCD choice possible for my needs, due to your efforts in establishing this thread.

Glad I could help.

This seems good i have found 1 review on it and they say it is good.

Dell SP2208WFP

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...=Dell%20SP2208WFP%2022

But there is also this 22" Dell, but I can't find any reviews on it.

Dell Ultrasharp 2208WFP

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...rasharp%202208WFP%2022

Many people have 22" Samsung's, would something like a Samsung T220 or 226 be better then the Dell SP2208?

Recently I saw the Dell S2409W it seems good spec and really cheap.

Dell S2409W

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...rodid=MO-029-DE&tool=3

Would the Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP be alot better then the Dell S2409W?

Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...rasharp%202408WFP%2024

And is there any other good 24" monitors?

Here is my PC's spec that I have ordered.

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 overclocked to 3.4GHz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
Asus P5Q Deluxe Motherboard
4GB DDR2 Ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX 280
500GB HDD
Thermaltake High Performance 850W PSU
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit
Saitek Eclipse 2 Illuminated Keyboard
Razer Diamondback 3G Mouse

Did you take a look at the OP for recommended 22"s and 24"s, do you have different requirements or are they not available in your area?

The V2400W may be a good LCD for you. Good value.

And yes, I think the 2408WFP would be quite a bit better than the S2409 and V2400.

Thank's mate. I thought they where old and had not been updated.

Are any of the 22" Samsungs good?

Wow, I want to thank everyone who has kept this very informative thread going. I am in the market for a 24'' or larger LCD and have a big problem choosing one. I use a 24'' Sony GDM-FW900 CRT which is pretty much the best monitor ever made, so any LCD I look at pales in comparison. I have an older 19'' Hyundai L90D+ 8ms TN which I consider absolutely unacceptable for gaming that I use for text-based work, but I'm looking into possibly replacing the Sony with an LCD hoping the tech has caught up, and I am willing to consider a TV panel if it will meet my requirements. These are my priorities:

1. Gaming - I'm used to 100+hz CRT motion, any input lag or ghosting is not acceptable
2. Resolution - it has to be at least 1080p
3. Scaling - must do 1:1
4. No wide gamut - I have seen what this looks like and the oversaturation on sRGB content (pretty much everything I would ever use it for) is unacceptable

I am willing to put up with TN banding if it will get me a faster response time and I couldn't care less about viewing angles.

I fear that I will have to wait until FED to find something I can truly live with, but I am optimistic about the new BenQ E2400HD, http://www.benq.us/products/LCD/?product=785

Any suggestions?

Grays have a distinct blueish tint to them and some lighter shades of yellow are barely recognizable or not displayed at all. Basically, this monitor's colors are too cool. Putting the color settings to warm doesn't help much either. I just can't get rid of that bluish tint. Aside from that, the monitor is nice, though it could be a little brighter perhaps.

Either way I've decided this monitor is not for me, the coolness of colors bothers me too much so I am taking it back.

Did you use it long enough to have an opinion on the response time/lag? Text sharpness? I was looking at this monitor as well. I have hardware to create a color profile, so if color was the only problem, I should be able to resolve that easily enough.

Primary use is gaming and general browsing/email stuff. I'm generally looking straight at it so viewing angle is not a problem.

Does anyone know if there are two panels used in this monitor? I just sent an email to HP regarding the two manufacturers part numbers listed on CDW's website. When I did a search on HP's website I only found one of the two (the KD911A8 part # and not the KD911A4 one).

Check the thread on this monitor on HardForum for confirmation -- they're the same monitor, same panel, but HP tends to use two different model numbers for their consumer sales and business sales; something about one being applicable to volume and company discounts, and the other not. They do the same thing with their 30" monitor, and xtknight mentions they did the same with smaller panels as well. Seems to be standard practice for HP when they're marketing a display toward both consumers and businesses.

The people who reported that it is an IPS panel have been buying the cheaper of the two, so I don't think you have to worry about getting something lower-quality.
Both were on the HP web site last I checked -- one is listed as a "Smart Buy" promotion (the cheaper of the two, in the $650 range from HP) and the other was not.

REALLY need your help. am not technologically very literate. i currently have a 24" IMAC. i needed a second monitor and got the 26" westinghouse - it is terrible in every way, except how it looks when switched off it suddenly goes blank when I am working, then comes back in 2-3 seconds - very irritating. anyway, i plan to return it.

i use my computer primarily for surfing the web and using word/excel.

i love LOVE the apple display. can you please recommend just 1 or 2 monitors that meet the following criteria:
-24-26 inches
- works out of the box (I do not understand most of the color calibration/gamut etc etc issues that so many users on this forum discuss)
- price preferably not more than 700 area (+/- 100)
- is like the IMAC (why does it take apple to make a perfect display, at least perfect to me)
- minor preference it can pivot (not a dealbreaker)

HP LP2475w. I swear, you'll love it. It should be basically the same as the iMac 24", less a couple issues with tinting on the left/right sides of the panel. I am not sure yet if this is rampant or just a defect. Failing that, the Planar PX2611W is available. And the DoubleSight DS-265W (although their service isn't as good, there might be an A-TW polarizer on this model??) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...6824185010&Tpk=ds-265w

I'd check if it has a polarizer or not, but HardForum is down now for me.

I have spent hours reading this forum and hardforum - think I am even more confused now - first i thought the DS265w is perfect, then the LP2475W, then the planar. Anyway, can you please recommend 1/2 monitors for me.

thanks much

Those are the same ones I recommended to you. They should all be good choices.[/quote]

After many hours searching for a decent LCD I'm coming up empty-handed. I intend to use it for gaming and general Windows/Office/web surfing. I only need DVI, don't care about other inputs. It won't be used for movies or photo editing, though I want something with good black levels, and would prefer non-wide gamut.

So I'm looking for something along these lines:

- 22" or 24"
- Minimal input lag
- Preferably glossy, so as to improve black levels when using with a PC (or at least something that has deep blacks)
- ability to maintain aspect ratios when using lower resolutions so they show pillarboxed (while filling the screen vertically)
- Not wide gamut

I want to make sure that blacks appear a shade of black, not with blue or purple cast.

I was looking at the LG L227WT, because it has zero input lag and good black levels, but it's wide gamut so I'm afraid colors will be off in non-color aware programs. Same with a number of other 22-26" screens.

I was considering the BenQ V2400W, except I don't know how well it does blacks with a PC over DVI. The asymmetry doesn't really bother me, but I can't really get over the way the buttons look on the left side.

Any other monitors anyone could suggest?

It's the SVA (Sylvania) 2400w which can be had at CompUSA for $280 +ship, or $260 after Paypal rebate. Text

It has been confirmed to use an MVA panel, specifically CMO-M240J1-L02. You can find more info about the deal in this thread: Text People that bought the LCD seem to be happy with the image quality.

The most interesting thing to me is that some people are reporting that the monitors they received have a GLOSSY screen panel. Others are reporting that they received a matte anti-glare screen. I've been looking for a large (22-24") non-TN glossy panel and this would be the first that I know of, if it is actually being manufactured as a glossy screen. I'm not sure why only some people are getting the glossy screen, maybe the manufacturer switched from matte to glossy or vice-versa and there are units out there with both panels?

Anyway, I will most likely buy one soon in the hopes of getting the glossy screen version. I'll post again here after I get it.

I still haven't seen any follow-up to this, but that CMO M240J1 panel appears to be the same one used in the ViewSonic VX2435WM, which is one of the monitors on the "recommended" list at the top of this thread, priced around $600 and up.

It would be interesting to know how the SVA and the ViewSonic compare, since the difference would simply be in the electronics that each manufacturer uses to drive that same panel.

So I'm looking at snagging either the LG L227WT or the BenQ V2400W currently. While the BenQ is larger, its also more expensive, and I'm partial to glossy monitors like the L227. My big question is what is the image quality and color like between these two? Is one better than the other? Are they both pretty much the same? Other than size, which one is preferred more?

Currently I've got an NEC Multisync 90gx2 that I absolutely love, its amazing in color an response time, but I'd like to find something a bit bigger, albeit something similar in look and feel.

I can help with the color question. One important thing to know is that the V2400W is not wide gamut, whereas the L227WT is. Wide gamut is something a lot of monitor companies are pushing for these days, but the downside is that few applications take advantage of it. What it means is when you use a program that's not suited to wide gamut on this type of monitor, colors will appear oversaturated. Some programs are ok if they are "color aware" (photoshop and firefox3 for example).

Basically, what I hear is that you should stay away from wide gamut unless you are into professional photo editing. Which is disappointing because the L227WT would be perfect for me otherwise.

Some people don't really mind the difference though, so it's a matter of personal opinion.

The guide does have a lot of old (and new) entries on it but I would not leave it outdated without noting that it was.

The Samsung 22"s are not that great. Many of them are panel lotteries and many Samsungs also have a blue tint to them. The recommended ones should suit most people (including me).

-thanks

The LG L227WTG ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/...6824005109&Tpk=l227wtg ) would be a better choice as it has more accurate colors (no blue tint) and probably more accurate response time control, something the Samsungs are notorious for doing poorly.

These are my priorities:

1. Gaming - I'm used to 100+hz CRT motion, any input lag or ghosting is not acceptable

You may considering looking elsewhere. Every LCD ghosts. Or, you can take a look at BFI (black frame insertion) LCDs that attempt to solve the retinal persistence problem that CRTs solve by design (electron gun and blanking). At low response times like 5 ms, some ghosting or smearing effects are caused by the retina.

The Hyundai itself is a pretty fast LCD, but AFAIK it does not use overdrive, or at least not aggressive overdrive. It's an older model. Maybe the strong overdrive will reduce the ghosting enough for you.

2. Resolution - it has to be at least 1080p

You will be looking at 23" or bigger, or the 22" Lenovo L220x (1920x1200). Probably 24"+ depending on what kind of dot pitch you're looking for. Smaller dot pitches would better match your CRT.

3. Scaling - must do 1:1

Look here for a chart on which 1920x1200 LCDs can do 1:1 (I do need to update it for the most recent models): http://xt.knight.googlepages.com/dsp_scale.htm

4. No wide gamut - I have seen what this looks like and the oversaturation on sRGB content (pretty much everything I would ever use it for) is unacceptable

I am willing to put up with TN banding if it will get me a faster response time and I couldn't care less about viewing angles.

TNs don't really cause banding but primarily the viewing angles will be an issue. Today's TNs dither as well as some MVAs or IPS panels touted as 8-bit.

I fear that I will have to wait until FED to find something I can truly live with, but I am optimistic about the new BenQ E2400HD, http://www.benq.us/products/LCD/?product=785

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure. I would go with the standard gamut BenQ V2400W. I will provide to this thread info on the E2400HD if I come across any.

If you don't like it, I don't know what you're going to do. Maybe a brick and mortar store near you carries it, or maybe if you're lucky enough to order from a site that has a return policy for LCDs you can eat the 15% restocking fee.

In conclusion, either pull the trigger on the V2400W or wait for info on the E2400HD. Or you could be brave and just try the E2400HD, which looks like it has some improvements over the V2400W. As far as I am aware, neither the E2400HD nor the V2400W offers BFI technology, but the FP241WZ does. For most people, all BFI does is introduce flicker from the blanking, annulling its few helpful effects. The WZ is a VA so it may have a slower response time and input lag as well. Stick with the 24" TNs.

Take a look at this too (I'm not affiliated with BenQ or any LCD company): http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1348952

This is a great thread! I've been reading about the recommended monitors listed in the top post, and I wanted the Dell 2408WFP, and voila - Dell Small Business has it for 25% off right now. I jumped right on that!

Now I just need to upgrade my video card to something that supports HDCP, and figure out which Blu-ray burner to get, woohoo!

It looks like I'm not supposed to put that in there - I used a coupon from one of those web sites that specialize in bargains and deals. Sorry if I'm not supposed to do that, I won't do it again if that is not permitted.

Thanks xnight, I looked into the FP241WZ and it appears that the BFI implementation has major issues. Looks like I'm stuck waiting for OLED or FED, the coming Viewsonic BFI is only a 22" 1680x1050 so I'll pass. The hardforum thread is where I found out about the new BenQ, if you look I already posted but thanks for lookin out. I'm compelled to try one of the new 32'' LCD TVs with BFI, any info on which ones are good or where to start? Most LCD reviews are worthless, I haven't see one yet that tested LCD TV input lag compared to a CRT.

LaCie 324 or NEC 2490WUXi LCD - 24? LCD?s

I?ve narrowed my choices down to one of these LCD monitors to replace my recently deceased NEC CRT monitor. Both are available with hardware/software calibration solutions. I am using Photoshop CS3 and printing on an Epson 4000.

The only notable difference between these two monitors that I could find is the LaCie has DCDI video technology. I want to play with HD video (one of the new HD handycams) in the near future and I can?t tell from the specs if the NEC monitor will be adequate for 1080p playback. Plus, the NEC is nearly impossible to find anywhere right now.

Is the new LaCie 324 generally well regarded in terms of overall image quality for photo editing? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. My budget is up to $1500 USD.

Keep up the good work xtknight.....

Where in the heck is the LG Flatron W2600HP on sale at? This monitor looks really really compelling... Fast gamer with SIPS... Prad had good things to say.

I'm damn happy with my 275t but looking for a second monitor. One for superb gaming and large.

Samsung Touch of Color HD line has built-in hdtv tuner and goes up to 26". However, they are TN panels. On Tigerdirect, the video review with the different models lined up in an angle looked terrible compared to the one that was straight on. So my question is if anyone knows another LCD monitor/HDTV that's at least 24" and preferably has a VA or IPS panel?

I'm trying to make a final decision here, should I get the Samsung 2443BW, or the BenQ V2400W? I don't need 1:1. 2243 has better dynamics and stuff, you really can't adjust the v2400w stand, but what monitor is better overall in image quality / input lag?

Edit// Oh man, I'm so confused. I just saw this:
http://www.digitalversus.com/d...8&mo2=304&p2=2943&ph=1

the image on the V2400W looks so dark, and none lifelike compared to the old G2400w.. Is this accurately what it looks like? ><;
