Just turn it off, its better that way.

Thanks.

Well mine hasn't automatically turned on, so I am glad for that.

Anyway, Digitalversus recommended it stay on for the T220.

For reactivity it?s the same and a small adjustment is called for. Return to the OSD and select the RTA option (Samsung?s term for overdrive) and set it from 1 to 2. It?s much better and in our case there were no negative side effects of black or reverse ghosting.

Yup, as DigitalVersus had said, they didn't notice any negative effects and reverse ghosting(pinkish hue in 226BW) and in your case the wierd color uniformity thing.. But, it seems your monitor has negative effects due to RTA. So, that's the culprit, good thing you remedied it! (By Switching RTA off) ..

Btw, since you mostly use it for graphic designing and stuff like that, RTA is not gonna help, and you if you could bear with the Response times you get in Games after turning it off, its good to forget RTA altogether.

Well the lack of color uniformity is still there. Everything else is perfect though. I am going to see about getting a better version of the T220 tomorrow though.

And I haven't noticed any issues in my games after turning RTA off.

Oh and DVD playback on this is quite good.

Just wanted to say I picked up the LG L227WTG-PF 24 hours ago and wow its so nice, replaced a 2005WPF Dell Ultra Sharp and Im so happy.

Defaulf settings has it very bright was set to 100% I turned it down to 47% have not changed anything else and love the picture.

Games, video and text look great.

Was worried I would not notice much of a size diff but I do

Passed on a 24in did not want to have to get a new vid card to handle the higher res.

Oh and the glossy coating is not an issue for me, not much light in my office, I can see mysef in the monitor when its off, but no reflections when its on I could see it being an issue in a bright room.

Paid $270 at BB.

Wanted to say thanks to to everyone in this post for all the info you give!!!

HP LP2475W
L227WTG-PF
The most obvious difference between the two is the size (LG 22 inch
vs. HP 24 inch), but this is not too important for me. I also understood
that HP had a higher-quality panel. The price difference is large,
and I am trying to figure out if the extra money for the HP is
worth it. I don't game or do any kind of graphics intensive work,
what I do a lot is watching videos, reading and text editing (I might
spend the whole day editing and typesetting papers).
Do you think buying an HP panel would be worth it in this case, in
other words, will it give me any advantage in what I am using
my computer for?

Thanks!

The LG will probably work fine for you. I say that as an owner of one of the highest end IPS panels. I can't honestly say I really prefer my NEC IPS for general work that much.

If anyone is interested, I took my T220 back today, and tested the T220s to note that the lack of color uniformity wasn't limited to one unit.

Then I had a look at the LG227WT. While it was very fast... its colors were really really off. I don't know if it had to do with the calibration, but they were far better on the T220. In the end, I kept the T220. I'll just live with the cons I guess.

I have to say, that in terms of color, the T220 is quite quite good. When I look at the colors submenu on photoshop, it looks quite good. But other problems have now popped up.

For example, if I move my mouse on a light colored background, I can see a distinctive white shadow trailing behind. And the uniformity thing may have actually gotten worse...

Then I tried gaming on it. I played Crysis, and it was quite good with no problems. The blacks were excellent etc.

Then I tried Far Cry 2, and I got some strange issues. Whenever I saw an explosion on screen, I saw a big orange colored shadow that covered it. It was something I hadn't seen before... certainly.

Anyway, I just checked, and it is clear I got the C-panel. I really trusted Digital Versus on this one..

I am going to go and see if I can get this changed for another piece...

BTW, I have the following available to me... any opinions:

http://www.galaxy.com.pk/ (assume the Asus 22'' isn't...)

The artifacts you're seeing are due to response time issues (overly aggressive overdrive algorithm).

HP w2207 (glossy), ViewSonic VX2255wmb. The ASUS really I think is the best and didn't you already try the ViewSonic?

Thanks.

Hard to tell when the only one with comprehensive reviews is the w2408h. So, I guess I'd choose that one.

Its gamma curve isn't that great, though. http://prad.de/en/monitore/rev...-hp-w2408h-part11.html

So, your options are to either get a colorimeter or a different LCD like the HP LP2475w (with color profile) or HP LP2465.

I'm hoping that the picture be sharp, good colors, contrast, etc. Since I mostly use it for Gaming, a TN would be alright, moreover I don't wish to splurge on just a display.. But I'm confused if I should go for a 16:9 or a 16:10 monitor, I mainly considered this because of the extra pixels over other 22' which tend to be @ 1650x1050. Will I miss out on the size of the display or is the .5' difference just minimal?

I have my eyes set on the E2200HD, which has a 16:9 aspect-ratio and I do know that its a TN, its not gonna be a problem since I'd just sit in front of it and i'm also attracted by the 1080p tag on it.

Here are some reviews, i'd found.

http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=3449

http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/...49691195;pid;6900;pt;1

And here's an user review of it,

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1359320

P.S.: I live in India, so L227 and other monitors are not available here, .. But, this one is and costs the INR equivalent of $250. Thanks in advance guys!

I'd say just go for the E2200HD, then. Anything I could recommend that's "better" would likely have negligible differences. BenQ's LCDs are almost always high quality (maybe except for value or bundled LCDs).

If you can get used to going from 4:3 to 16:10, you can get used to going from 16:10 to 16:9.

1.) What is the most common resolution used for regular text applications? Like doing e-mail and stuff? I tried the default 1920x1200 and text is waaaay too small.

That would be the default. You can try increasing DPI (font size) in your operating system.

2.) I played UT3 at 1920x1200 and it looked awesome, no problems. Great detail. But then I tried The Witcher and also watched a Heroes episode from Netflix (via instant watching) - in both cases the screen got very dark and harder to see. Mostly with darker scenes.

Is the best solution for this usually to turn the brightness down? I'm using "Dynamic" mode which is 100% brightness. What's a better brightness level when the darks are too dark?

My video card is the 8800GT. Thanks for any help!

By dark and hard to see what do you mean, exactly? Was there a lot of compression and blocks and/or discoloration hiding the scenes or was the brightness just too low?

Dynamic mode can make 100% brightness into 0% brightness, so it's best not to use dynamic mode at all if it doesn't yield good results. Dynamic mode is a dynamic percent of brightness that adjusts depending on the scene. For dark scenes it'll get darker because it doesn't need as much backlight, thereby saving power. Sometimes it goes too far.

And, you might try increasing gamma in your video program (or video drivers) to reveal more details at lower levels of brightness.

Yup. I am not afraid of recommending this monitor to anyone, even people who are afraid of TN panels, because it's simply an awesome LCD.

Depends how you define 8-bit. Same as 95% of the other LCDs out there. Don't know what kind of dithering/FRC it uses, but probably nothing terrible.

It's probably because of gamut. I'm surprised you preferred the T220, though.

Thanks xtknight!, I'll probably pick it up on Monday, then!.. .. But, BenQ's dead pixel policy in India sucks, 10 dead pixels for a 22' to qualify for a replacement!!..

AFAIK, LG and ViewSonic have a Zero Dead-Pixel over here..

Btw xtknight, I'd picked up a 22' LG previously(2-3 months ago), forgot to mention it.. Its pretty decent.. LG W2242T, Matte-Screen, with LG's 0 Dead-pixel policy, and a 5yr warranty, I just couldn't pass on it! It cost around the INR equivalent of US$260.. And its a great gaming monitor..

If possible, I'll do some sorta review of it!..

Hello, I'm looking for recommendations on an LCD that I can keep in portrait mode 100% of the time and will look good doing plain old text editing. My budget is somewhere around $500 and I'd prefer a 22"+ monitor.

Per my reading, I definitely don't want a TN panel, but it appears that even some of the non-TN 22" monitors don't all come with stands that support pivoting (or even have VESA mounting holes).

Any suggestions?

Which non-TN 22" monitors were you looking at?

The below are S-PVA 22" LCDs which provide what you are looking for.

The Lenovo L220X has 100x100mm VESA and pivot (portrait mode) support w/ auto sensor.
The HP LP2275w supports pivot and provides the same size VESA holes.
The Eizo S2231W also has VESA holes and pivot support, as do most Eizo monitors.

Is there actually another non-TN 22" I'm not aware of, though?

If you want to raise your budget a bit there's the LP2475w as well, and it also has VESA and pivot. Might be worth it to you if you want more screen resolution.

In portrait mode the TN viewing angles may be more noticeable due to increased vertical space so I can see where IPS/VA may put you at an advantage. Really, any of the modes are good for text editing and maybe they all have the slightly darkening viewing angle problem in portrait mode. VA panels provide the highest brightness at any angle (not talking about color shift) so you can consider those as the best in your situation. They also provide nice contrast. IPS panels might give you more screen-door effect.

Just got caught up with your string of posts regarding the T220 and it's RTA problems. Wanted to say im experiencing the exact same problems and am more or less in the same boat.

I purchased this monitor just a couple of days ago and soon began noticing the white ghost trail behind text on light backgrounds, espcially when scrolling through forums such as this. Couldn't figure out what was causing it until i read something about "RTA artifacting" and dedcided to try shutting it off, like you was using the settings recommended by Digital Versus (RTA: Mode2). Once i turned it off the problem went away.

I checked the panel code and according to THIS i have a CMO built panel. The worst one from what im reading. I'm temped to look around some of the B&M stores here to see if i can nail down a unit with a Samsung built panel (by checking the service menus on display models) in hope of being able to use RTA again, because it seems like a waste of a fairly useful feature...

I wanted to believe that this T220 was near flawless because what i like about the unit i reall do like, but the RTA issue and unusually high amounts of backlight bleeding have me thinking i could do a bit better... LG has a model that im very interested in, in case the search for a Sammy built T220 panel fails.

I finally bought the HP 2475W a few days ago, and after a few days of use, I'm already thinking about replacing it.

As for whether it supports 75Hz @ 1920x1200, I had to find the answer myself, as HP didn't care to reply. Now I can see why: it doesn't support 75Hz at all, not even in lower resolutions. Not on any inputs (DP,HDMI,DVI,DSUB). To be more accurate, it accepts it, then drops every 5th frame... So I had to stick with 60Hz, but I just couldn't get used to it. (Neither could I to the variable input lag.)

Anyway, how can you watch movies @60Hz? Seeing one frame for 2*1/60 ms and the other for 3*1/60 ms + the variable input lag just plain hurts my eyes.

So I wonder if there is a monitor in existence that natively supports 75Hz at 1920x1200... :S

Hello!

First of all big respect to creator of this topic. You are doing outstanding job. Since I am not that much into lcd technologies I have few questions for experts on this site (xtknight) in particular

I am proudly owner of 17" LG CRT monitor, however the time has come to (possibly) change to lcd monitor. Mostly because of health resons. The choices on the market are large and confusing.

Reading through this topic revealed mostly information about larger monitors, but what is with 17 and 19"? Are there any good choices for gamers? I had opportunity to see Dell 19 lcd" (5:4) but it is too large (would prefer WS) 17" and 19" are only limited to TN technology right? One of the reason why I am skeptic about buying larger monitor (20"+) is that most likely I would need killer pc to run games on such a large resolutions. (1280x1024 would be perfect )

Most of the time in front of computer I spend on gaming (70%) / browsing the Internet. If you could please give me few quality choices for 17" or 19ws". How do you see future development of 17 and 19" monitors? What would you recommend, maybe it would be better to buy 20"?

Any advices are more than welcome. Greetings from Croatia.

Does anyone know how to turn on ASCR (I have an ASUS VW224U)? In the menu the ASCR and Saturation settings can't be changed; for some reason it won't let me click on it, it skips those two settings. Thanks!

Turn on/off Splendid?

And how do you like your VW224u? In terms of response time, do you see any artifacts or ghosting? Is the color setup good? This is the replacement model for the VW222u and I'm having a hard time knowing whether or not to blindly just recommend the new model.

The VW224U is truly amazing. I've played Counter-Strike Source a little bit, as well as FSX, and evreything is so vivid. Even if I zoom out in the cockpit (when playing FSX) and all the letters, etc on the panel become tiny, I can still read them. Very crisp! On CS:S everything is clear and vivid as well; I don't see any ghosting or artifacts, either. I'm coming from a 5-6 year-old IBM 17", lol, so everything is dramatically better. But yes, for $200 ($180 after MIR), I don't see how this couldn't be recommended. Once I get ASCR working I'll report back to see if there is much of a difference with an extra 3000:1 contrast ratio. But yes, please do recommend this model.

The only thing I'm not all that impressed with is the glossy bevel. I would have rather had the VW222U's exterior, as I'm just not a big fan of the glossy; it attracts a lot of finger prints. It so beautiful, though
