Firstly, thanks 10e for your review. I've been eagerly awaiting your thoughts on it and after reading your positive review I was about to get one. Until you suggested at V2400 is a better monitor if you only use one monitor so now I'm again uncertain.

I would like your opinion on which of the following monitors would best suit me:

- BenQ e2200HD - AU$238
- BenQ G2400WD - AU$349
- Dell 2209WA - AU$415
- Open to other suggestions

A little about my situation:

- This will be a standalone monitor.
- I upgrade very rarely. This will be my first monitor that I've bought in about 15 years. Until now I have been using monitors from work that were going to throw away (atm Viewsonic 17"). At work I use a 19" Dell LCD.
- I just got a ATI 4850 512Mb (ATI 9800 Pro previously)
- Will use the monitor 90% of the time for reading - word, pdfs, latex, etc. I also use the computer to play games in the evenings and weekends. However, text must, absolutely must be easy to read.
- The price difference isn't too much of an issue for me.
- I don't think I will ever connect a console to it.

I was initially going to go for the e2200HD but I felt it was a waste since my graphics card in about a year would struggle to do 1900x1080. Also, reading text at 1900x1080 on a 22" would be difficult.

I'd be very grateful for your thoughts.

For me it'd probably be the Dell 2209WA due to the eIPS panel and viewing angle. 24" is a bit excessive. Plus 22" has a nice text size.

Sypder's customer service has proven extremely inadequate and indifferent, offering no solutions whatever. I've heard that some LCD monitors simply cannot be calibrated owing to the poor quality. Is this true? Does anyone have any suggestions for how to calibrate this monitor or do I have to buy a newer, and much more expensive one? Thanks

Yeah, that is a TN.

I think your calibration solution is just messed up because any monitor can be calibrated. If the monitor couldn't be calibrated, I don't think you could stand to look at it in its default state. Maybe if it just displayed a black picture or something.

Have you tried any different calibration software? Are you setting the monitor to Native mode?

I'm not interested in the gateway because it seems to have reliability problems, so I've been looking at the 3007wfp-hc, 3008wfp, and samsung 305t.

I used to have a 3007WFP that had a very fuzzy anti-glare coating (major screen-door effect), and I'd like to avoid that if I can.

Any suggestions? I've honestly begun thinking about just picking up the new dell 22" e-ips and waiting until a new 30" is released, but the demand for them has to be pretty low especailly with the way the economy is going... I don't want to wait that long.

Hmm. Well you can go for a wide gamut monitor and just use the color profile for Firefox, Photoshop, Safari, whatever applicable, I'd think.

Ability to place the screen into 4:3 mode.
I have a different screen for consoles but may use this one if its that good.
I am limited to uk online retailers specifically OCUK.

The links below are the pages id have to choose from
20" Screens 22-23" Screens

My three best guess/choices
1. Asus VH226H 22"
2. Samsung T220HD 22"
Dell SP2309W 23"

What do you guys think? much appriciated in advance.

You could try the Dell 2209WA or regular Samsung T220. I am not sure how the T220HD is.

Can't you use your video card to do 4:3 (aspect scaling)?

Hey all,

I'm getting back into the market for a new LCD monitor. I currently have a 5:4 17" Samsung, and definitely not happy with it. I finally upgraded my video card, 285GTX, so I'm ready to drive games to a higher resolution, but I don't want a super high resolution that'll force me to play at lower settings. I've always been cautious about getting into larger screens because to keep higher IQ settings in games, I'd have to upgrade more frequently. Too costly.

I've been reading back a couple pages, but I've just been out of the market for so long that it's killing me to try and make sense of it all.

I'm looking for a 22", obviously going to need strong response times, but if possible I don't want to sacrifice anything else about the image. I want deep, inky blacks if at all possible, with little black crush. 8bit color if that is possible in what I am looking for, and in general wonderful colors. I would like as high of a contrast as possible, as I do watch videos on my monitor although games I'd say demand just as defined contrast as anything else, but gamers often short this on their wishes. I can't. I don't want to lose detail in dark areas, and I want to see a wide gamut when looking at outdoor scenes. An actual impression that I'm seeing sunlight with the rays shining down. Basically a striking and inky image if that can be found in a monitor with fast response times.

Is this doable at all?
Thanks

I can indeed its good to have though for other devices if i use them on it instead of the samsung screen (ex. 360 VGA HD) Cnet says the dell has a built in 4:3 mode anyway.

I like the stand design especially the vertical mount function which will make for an authentic mame/vectrex vertical coin op experience Dell gives a good 360 degree view

Scan has them in for £20 more inc shipping it will arrive tuesday, thanks for the advice i'll let you know if im in-love with it after a good gaming session

Hi guys, I am looking for a recommendation for a 19" flat panel (1440x900). I am planning to use it with my Thinkpad T400, and do some light gaming (CS:S), thus the 1440x900. I have been considering this Samsung 923NW - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824001293

Any thoughts?

How does 1440 look on a 19" panel? I would consider going with 1680x1050, but to play games in native (Radeon HD3470), would be a pretty rough compared to 1440. Plus, I need something smaller as I may have to travel.

Any help would be nice.

Did 10e repost his review? Dell was still sellilng the 2209wa @ 212 so I bit the bullet and purchased one - wanted to check his review for settings. Rather prefer a 20inch 1600x1200 but didn't like the options and 212 is more agreeable than 400.

Hi, i have a question regarding input lag. (and possible advice on a new monitor)

I am looking for a new LCD monitor that has acceptable input lag to me, which is below 1 frame delay (~16 ms). Of course if i find a good monitor with really low or even zero input lag i will buy it without second thought.

The problem is that these input lag tests doesn't seem very reliable.

For example the LG L227WT, the prad review says it has zero input lag

http://prad.de/en/monitore/rev...-lg-l227wt-part12.html

Then on the other hand in the digital versus site it says that it has avg. 27 ms and maximum 40 ms input lag!

http://www.digitalversus.com/d...&mo2=349&p2=3278&ph=12

Now i can understand some ms differences between reviews due to a number of reasons but this is a huge difference.

Unless of course i am missing something or the LG L227WT has different panels like the Samsung 226BW.

I even remember a review in this site that the input lag tests were different in comparison with digital versus.

? was planning to get the T220, i know that according to digital versus site the monitor has maximum input lag of 20 ms and avg of 12 ms, i don't mind that 4ms difference but is it reliable?

My 2209WA arrived today and like every monitor i've ever owned my first thought was: i hate it my main problem is that it showed over-green tones in all windows greys.
After playing around my prefered settings are:
Brightness: 10 Contrast: 75. Mode selection: Graphics Preset mode: Custom (RGB) R:98 G:88 B:98 All else default. This solved everything including the lack of colour temp settings.

For gaming its fantastic,
Crysis warhead cutscenes: Screen tearing two lower and upper screen: Fix = Vsync on
Prey gameplay: Same deal Fix = Vsync on
Also Tested WoW, CoD4 sp, Guild Wars, X3 Reunion, Oblivion, fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and HL2.
I didn't perceive any ghosting but im no pro i will add that the first beach arrival in crysis warhead looks so amazing i drooled on the desk. With AA/AS enabled there are no problems unlike my old dead vx924.

Blacks are really black no green tint like i hoped, Screen is pretty good when used in 4:3 too. The stand is just great its tall it twists and turns you'll love it.
To test movie playback i used transformers on blu-ray, the high motion street battles just looked brilliant, megatron when let loose looks crystal clear.

I could go on all day and night but i hope this gives people more insight into what xtknight is recommending, Thanks xtknight for the advice.

First of all, this is a great thread. I just got a Benq G2400WD based on the info in here, and I love it.

However, I have one gripe about it that I haven't been able to find a solution to. Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, I didn't see it after looking though a lot of the pages. The problem is every time the monitor loses its signal for any period of time, such as after a reboot, changing resolutions, and occasionally after a UAC popup happens in vista, the monitor will display a popup right in the middle of the screen for about half a second that says the input type; so in my case it says "Input: DVI". This wouldn't bother me if I didn't alt tab in and out of games fairly often, which changes the resolution and so causes the popup to display right over my AIM messages window (and in the middle of the screen after alt tabbing back into the game). This has proved to be a very difficult problem to find any information on online, and when I do see it mentioned no one seems to know an answer to it. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution to it?

Hi, I have a few questions regarding purchasing a new LCD Monitor. I currently use a 19 inch Samsung 930B, and I'm looking to upgrade to a 22 inch widescreen monitor. After looking through the topic, I noticed that the majority of the "hardcore gaming" 22 inches are relatively expensive at $300+. I'm looking for a monitor (ideally) in the <250 range. Could you compare the models you recommend to my current monitor? I haven't experienced any problems/lag with my current monitor, so getting a monitor with "significantly" less input lag isn't a major concern for me. I mainly use the monitor for gaming/web browsing. Thanks in advance!

This is a pretty nifty thread. I've been shopping around for a new monitor for the past two months and realized how difficult it can be for someone like me (I'm pretty picky and don't want to throw money all over the place). What I'm looking for in a monitor is about 24" at 1920x1200 (or better) resolution (Nvidia 9600GT). It would be fantastic if I could be able to hook up a game console directly to the monitor (but not sought after entirely) and be able to play my PC games (mostly FPSes) and watch Blu-ray videos.

Would I actually notice a negligible difference in input lag time while playing FPSes? My thanks to anyone who can help me out with a solid recommendation. I don't have a budget in mind but if it's reasonable enough (no more than $700?), I can save up for a little more just for the boost in visual experience.

Hello all.

New to the board.

I?m sorry that I don't have the time to read through all of the threads to digest and learn more about this but my 19" ViewSonic 2 ms VX922 just crapped out on me so I need to get something new pretty quickly, so I?m hoping someone more up to speed with the latest equipment can help me out.

I?ve had some bad experiences with ViewSonic before and so I really had my reservations about getting this one but at the time it was the only one that was a 19? 4:3 monitor (which is really all I can fit in my location) that was 2 ms as I need the most performance I can get, plus it had a DVI port which I need too, so I decided to get it, plus it seem to have some favorable reviews at the time.

But barely 2 years later and its dead and I?m not even gonna waist my time with a warr repair as I don?t have the time, I need something quick.

So any ideas on a replacement I can get with the same specs that is not a Viewsonic.

Again just to note, 19" 4:3 (I don't want a wide screen) DVI port, lowest ms I can get, I'm a little picky about the look too.

I see a lot of nice monitors that are 5 ms, kinda partial to the Samsungs, so is there really much of a diff with that over 2 ms?

Thanks to all for any help.

Is this montior still decent after 2 yrs of technology lag? Westinghouse L2410NM
I pulled the trigger because Tigerdirect has it on sale for 199.99. However, I could still cancel it. So please enlighten me.

If it's good enough, I'll keep it and wait for 24" $300.00 e-IPS panel and use it as dual monitor

It's hard to get those properties in a 22" monitor. You want it all (not a bad thing, but sometimes not entirely realistic especially with the dismal LCD market).

For a discriminating user like you I would definitely look at the Eizo S2231W, Lenovo L220X, or Dell 2209WA. 22" TNs are pretty suitable for most use but they have a lot of backlight bleeding and bad angles (for general use) which I view as the main problems of my LG 22".

The Eizo S2231W is so expensive for what it is so I think you can save some money by trying the Lenovo L220X. Those S-PVA panels (Eizo/Lenovo) may have deeper black levels and better QC than the Dell, but the latter is merely an assumption.

I'm in the market for a discontinued Dell LCD and one of the only places I managed to find the model I'm after was eBay. Now, lets say I purchased a NIB Dell LCD from eBay, will I be able to transfer ownership for warranty purposes? Will Dell give me a hard time in case something goes wrong with the LCD?

Any feedback or experiences would be appreciated.

Going with money is an issue, and the fact that I'm not quite comfortable having the resolution and DPI of the L220x, I'm going to have to settle between the Dell 2209WA and the LG L227WTG.
10e from HardForums seems to have the opinion that whichever is better is really based on price. I also prefer buying in a store opposed to ordering online, as it makes returns less of a hassle if the backlight is not normal or dead pixels. That, and I can see something in action prior to purchase.

I think I'll prefer the glossy, but other than your problems with the LG, how are the black levels? I understand the colors a likely more vibrant compared to the 2209WA, due to wider gamut and the glossy seems to help the appearance of vibrancy (imho). But are the black levels good, and will lowering the brightness improve this on the LG?

I'm going to take a trip to Best Buy this afternoon. First, I want to see if the LG is good in person, and two, I want to see what I won't be getting if I do decide on the Dell, that way I have a comparison to know whether to keep the Dell or not when it gets hooked up.

At this point I'm leaning on the L227 unless it looks terrible in person. Viewing angles aren't an issue for me... I'll be sitting around 1.5' from the monitor, so the sides of the screen should be within appropriate angles. But that's how far I sit from my 17" 5:4 LCD. I might try and increase that distance if the 22" ends up looking massive, but also dependent upon text appearance and whatnot.

A friend of mine is looking for a 19" widescreen monitor used primarily for gaming. He is on a very limited budget and doesn?t want to spend much more than the lower $100s. I have tried to talk him into spending a bit more but he just cannot afford it. Are there any 19" widescreens you can recommend in this price range that are halfway decent?

despite what everyone is saying I think it's going to be a very good monitor for the price. Majority of the reviews are good with a few bad ones scattered in there. I picked one up too, but can't test it until next Wednesday.

Keep your eyes on the lookout for deals. A couple bucks more he could pick up a 22". It's not uncommon to see them running around $140-170

I'm about to purchase the LP2475W, which I decided upon largely because of all the great amount of information provided by and through this thread. I've learned a lot about LCD technology while researching for a monitor and want to thank everyone in this thread. However, I'm not certain where I should buy it. I'm aware of the green/pink color issue and want to purchase through a reputable business that allows exchanges, unless it is easier/possible to simply go through HP instead. I've read through the thread from the beginning of January and remember reading Amazon was recommended, along with another site. I'm in the US, and am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I'm looking at Amazon.com right now because it is $610 and has free shipping.

Thanks again.
