I hate to be another user who asks questions, but I am looking for a monitor primarily for gaming. Currently I have an old CRT that is dying, and a Dell 2408WFP (A01), in a dual screen setup. The 2408 works fine for everything but gaming. When not gaming, I do various things on the CRT, actually I am typing this on the CRT. But movie watching, and most basic usage gets done on the LCD as it is pretty, and larger.
Size isn't hugely important, as my CRT that I am happy with is 17". I have space for another 24" or so on my desk, a 30" may be pushing it though, but I don't really want to spend 30" monies. I just want a decent screen, that would work ok for gaming.
The Samsung
2233rz 120hz screen, looks interesting, especially at some of the prices I have found it for (without the glasses). I don't really need the 3D function, but maybe in the future. The 120hz feature seems kinda cool, and logically makes sense as to how it would help with gaming.
Viewsonic Fuhzion vx2265wm also is a 120hz, yet not as highly rated.
Now comes some odd questions. Now my question about it. First off I have a kind of odd setup. Currently I have a 9800 GTX, but I just got a GTX 260 when I found a great deal on one, which I am probably going to install either tonight or tomorrow.
Graphics card > DVI to VGA adapter > CRT
Graphics card > DVI to HDMI cable > HDMI switch
HDMI switch > HDMI to DVI cable > Dell 2408WFP
HDMI switch > HDMI cable > Samsung LN46a650
I know to get 120hz you would need dual DVI setup, but being that I have 2 other screens that I like to use for things could I either somehow use the switch, making the 2233rz 60hz then going back to 120hz when gaming. Or use my 9800GTX as a secondary graphics card (is this even possible?). I have another PCI-E x 16 slot, and could just use it to display the 2408 and my TV. Then use the GTX 260 to be for the 2233rz. If this does work, would this cause problems? I am not talking about SLI of course.
Otherwise a lot of the ones on the hardcore gamers list is either really expensive 400+ or tough/impossible to find. I am not really looking to pay 400+ for a TN monitor. I also have read reviews dispersed about the internet, I tend to over research/think/analyze my purchases. A few of the screens there get mixed reviews, including the 2233rz. Of course everything is going to get mixed reviews, but I have seen some supposedly non-subjective tests performed on some of those monitors that had some less than desirable results. The
LG L227WTG seems kinda promising, and it's price is definitely appealing. The
Viewsonic VX2260wm also seems nice, although I read a couple reviews that made me think less of it.
Acer G24 looks quite promising, although I read a few unimpressed reviews on it as well. Also Acer just equates to cheap in my mind. I know they are probably coming up in the world and probably making nice products now, but they basically strike me as an e-machine type deal. Also the
Dell SX2210 looks promising. I am a fan of Dell, both of my current displays are Dells and I like them both. I really wanted the Dell 2209wa, but my CRT started dying too late.
Thanks for any help and replies. This thread is great, it has been a huge help to me.
