The rumor now is the price on the new 24"/ IPS/ 1920x1200 Dell 'U2410' will be @ $750. IF that's true, then it's approx @ $200. more than the HP 'LP2475w'. HMM.....this decision will be tricky.

anyone else not like 16:9 monitors? maybe on the desktop where you can get full hd at least it's some improvement over the WSXGA+ that i'm currently running but some of those notebook screens barely have any vertical space. i can't recall the last time i was just doing regular work and had to scroll side to side, but i can barely fit half a page in word into the tiny vertical spaces on a typical 16:10 notebook screen. so what do the monitor makers do? figure out a way to sell us even less of a screen and call it progress.

heck, i still sometimes miss the extra 150 vertical pixels from when i ran 16x12.

I am shopping for a monitor for my Sons system. He currently has a 19" LCD (5:4, not WS). I have a budget of around $150. Of course, I'd gladly spend a good bit more for something that is much better. He surfs the web, watches videos and plays FPS's (L4D, COD, etc.). He also has an XBox in his room connected to an old 19" TV. I really don't ever see him using the XBox, but I figured that I really should consider a monitor that has HDMI, so that I can get rid of that CRT TV.

I've been looking around a bit and I am close to pulling the trigger on this monitor:

ASUS VH236H

I had seen some other that I liked, but there was always a reason I dismissed it, 1 year warranty (Acer), questionable quality (Auria), etc... My Sons current monitor, a Hanns-G 19" developed a problem after about two years of use. I sent it out, they repaired it and returned it with the back panel completely NOT SECURED (the 100mm X 100mm panel where an arm would connect). I ended up taking it apart and finding 3 out of 4 screws inside, so I secured the mounting panel myself. That being said, I don't hate Hanns-G (or Hanns Spree), but I am not eager to buy from them again.

I have been looking at this Acer lately, it has a 3 year warranty, and DVI + HDMI. The only problem that I can foresee is that there isn't any speakers which would leave the Xbox 360 without any audio:
Acer X233Hbid

Any suggestions on why I should get this or a different monitor would be appreciated. I am not that familiar with monitor technology and figure that some here could steer me in a good direction.

-Thanks, Ken

BTW: He got a system upgrade for Xmas last year, so he has:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz
ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45
Corsair 2 X 2GB DDR2
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4830 512MB

His system is not overclocked and has so far been running his games fine. Of course, his current resolution is 1280 x 1024 and the new screen would probably be at a minimum of 1440 x 900. So, if you know of problems with this hardware and that resolution, information would be appreciated.

Dell 2410WFP On Its Way Soon?
July 21st 2009

It might not be anything to get excited about yet, but there has been mention of some new models on Dell's website, including a new 2410WFP. If you read through the description for some of Dell's monitor mounting arms, there is a section stating "Supported monitors include: Dell 2709WFP, Dell 2410WFP, Dell 2210WFP, Dell 2209WFP, Dell 2010WFP, Dell 1909WFP, Dell E2209WFP, Dell E2009WFP, Dell E1909WFP, Dell G2410WFP and Dell G2210WFP. Monitor availability may vary by region."

It would seem logical that Dell will eventually release a 2010 version of their popular 20", 22" and 24" WFP models, and this is perhaps the first indication of an imminent release (?) from Dell themselves. We don't have any further information at this time, but as we hear more, I will certainly post back.

This is getting really annoying. The U2410 is out just about everywhere but here in the US where the company is from! And after talking with a Dell rep we probably wouldn't see the U2410 here for at least another month...

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with the Apple Cinema 30' LCD?
It looks amazing aesthetically, but how is the performance and is it worth the $500 premium over other 30' monitors? or am I just paying for the Apple name and look?

I couldn't wait for the Dell U2410 so I ordered the Doublesight DS-265W IPS panel for $500 shipped. I think that a good deal for a 26 inch IPS panel..

CNet's just come out with some input lag figures for the U2410:

http://www.cnet.com.au/dell-ul...rp-u2410-339298064.htm

Dell UltraSharp U2410 (sRGB) min 21 max 34 Average 31
Dell UltraSharp U2410 (Game) min 0 max 29 Average 14
Dell UltraSharp 2209WA (Standard) min 0 max 32 Average 20
Dell UltraSharp 2209WA (Game) min 0 max 35 Average 13
Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP (sRGB) min 21 max 48 Average 33
Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP (Game) min 3 max 40 Average 24

All-in-all, "good" performance in "game" mode but about average in sRGB mode.

What are these "game" modes anyways? Are these like features you can turn on in the OSD like in HDTVs?

HP 2745 was another consideration and dells as well

from what I gather I should probably be looking for an IPS or PVA panel.

Yes, you're correct. I think the LP2475w is a good idea. The Apple 24" LED is decent but I don't know if I like glossy LCDs as much for photo editing. I've kind of changed my mind on the whole glossy thing. It won't affect the accuracy that much, it's just annoying to look at sometimes.

Hi everyone,

I'm considering the Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA for $279. Are there any glaring solutions of other monitors which are equally good for a cheaper price, or which are bigger/better for the same amount of money? (quality 24"?)

This will be used for a mix of gaming, photoshop, and office type work. Not much in the way of movies. BTW, the photoshop work is not super-intensive or anything and I'll have a CRT beside it to double-check accuracy. Mostly looking for reliability and price, without actually sacrificing all ideas of good color representation.

The 2209WA is by far the best deal today for an LCD. You can't get any other IPS for that price.

I wish there were more 4:3 LCDs to be honest. It seems silly 21.3" is the biggest you can get (well, basically, there are some 22" 4:3 medical monitors or something).

The Dell 2209WA is a great choice, as I've alluded to many times before. And, the graphics card should be plenty enough to handle 1680x1050 in most games. As far as $150 goes, ummm, the only suggestion I have is to get a brand name (Samsung, LG) instead of Hanns. I mean, true, Hanns makes their own LCDs (yes, surprisingly), they're just not that great of quality.

I know the ASUS VK246h is a great monitor, so I would give that ASUS 23" a shot.

VK246h: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...16824236048&Tpk=vk246h

Or even that if you want to spend the money on it. As far as 1920x1200 goes, I think you're fine, but look at benchmarks to be sure. Remember, turning on SSAA always takes significantly more bandwidth than simply raising the resolution a little. It raises bandwidth demands by squares.

You have a good point. That really is pretty stupid.

It's LED-backlit, but I'm not sure how mature that technology is these days.

I would just go for a tried and true 30" like a Dell to be honest with you. Either way you're probably going to be happy though.

The VW246H is a good choice for a gamer. It has a very fast TN panel.

Thanks for the list.

I think the L2335 is simply overstock but the EA231WMi is something I might want to add to the list. I think that just recently became available here. I wish there were reviews.

Note the sequel to NEC's 24", the LCD2490WUXi2, gets rid of A-TW as well. Apparently the A-TW film itself is no longer available.

Not that I know of.

Actually, I'm on the market for (2) 24" LCD's. I have about a ~$500 budget for both total.
I'm looking at the dell P2310H, and the ASUS 23.6" model.

The BenQ V2400W is also deactivated on Newegg, but does seem to be available for a good price directly from BenQ, that might be the way to go for 1920x1200 24" gaming LCD.
