The Sony 32V5500/W5500 both have S-PVA panels and offer cool quality. I opted for the V5500 since it has less obligatory post processing built into it. No input lag whatsoever. Just saying.

It's basically better than my old 2407WFPs. I can hardly believe my eyes. I mean 32" and the same qual. At first I thought the 120 missing pixels will cause trouble but I didn't even notice. It has 1920x1080. Coolness.

Well, actually you get a bit better FPS Well, obviously.

Can anyone give me a good recommendation on a 23-24" with good text quality? I've been through the Sammy 2494SW, Dell S2409W, and Samsung 2333SW. The 2333 is the best thus far, but still isn't perfect. I'm coming from a Viewsonic VX2025 which uses a VA panel, and has great text sharpness. I've found color on all these monitors to be adequate - so TN seems to be fine for me. My only problem is figuring out why the text seems slightly blurry. It isn't overly so - it just seems like no matter the sharpness setting I can't quite get what I want.

Is this a size thing? Sitting too close? I don't want to pay over, say, $250 for this. I may just be text-anal. Anyone with the same issues? Thanks!

Hey guys, im on the market for a 24 inch display for mostly gaming. Ive done a lot of reading about TN/IPS/VA etc and while id like a U2410, this is just too far out of my price range.

I need something in the 250-325 range that does full 1920x1080-1200 res. I'd prefer a full 16:10 screen, but it's not a deal breaker. I also will probably use it some for my PS3, so HDMI would also be nice (but again, not a deal breaker)

here are some of the ones ive been looking at, but id like to hear some opinions

Follow up - I bought an Acer H233H at Best Buy since it was only $140 and I can return there - and its almost perfect! Text looks great. Color is more than acceptable. Very impressed over all, and a bargain.

I was looking at the U2410 too, but it has a mixed reputation for quality control which doesn't sit right with me considering the price Dell charges for it. Same for the competing HP LP2475w.

I believe that all of the alternative monitors you listed above use TN panels, including the LED backlit Dell. Depending on how sensitive you are to TN viewing angles and color (I hate it), you may want to look further. Maybe the Samsung ToC has a PVA panel - my Samsung ToC B650 HDTV does, but it probably has input lag and/or ghosting if gaming is important to you.

I'm strongly considering the NEC EA231WMI, which is a 23" 1920 x 1080 w/ an IPS panel:
http://www.provantage.com/nec-displa...k~7NECL0CN.htm

The EA231WMI isn't perfect (I'd love a full 1920 x 1200 monitor), but it does not seem to suffer from any additional problems that the Dell and HP have and can be had for ~ $330 without any additional sale or coupons. It's a compromise, but for that price it seems like a decent one.

I got an NEC EA231WMi for the holidays. Mine, as with most others if the thread at [H] is to be believed, suffers from similar tinting issues to the U2410, just somewhat less severe. The contrast and backlighting are fine, but the left of the screen has a slight pink tint to it. Its not enough to be a deal breaker, but it is there. Just my two bits

I have found most are overly critical and/or were made whole by the manufacturer anyway yet never updated their complaints.

The U2410 is a hell of a bargain. Yes it's more costly, but it is IPS technology.

I went the LCD2490WUXi route and glad I did. It's much like looking at my old trinitron CRT that was fully calibrated.

My only problem is my colormunki is not working with the spectraview II software. I haven't taken the time to call tech support though.

Dell U2410 is once again $479.20 US after coupon ('D646ZXM2C$4?VW'). I believe this is the lowest price Dell has ever offered (a comparable coupon was in effect this past September).

Has anything happened in terms of the U2410 firmware, or are they still selling rev A00 displays?

Still torn between this (waiting to see if anything can be done about the sRGB mode dithering) and the NEC EA231WMi. And there's always the refurb LCD2490WUXi option, though I'm wary of spending $500+ on something that's only protected for a single year. I'd like a display, especially an IPS panel, to last a few years...

Dang, that is a really good price for the U2410.

Dell has not been very clear about how they will handle the "new" U2410 firmware with the sRGB dithering fix. It seems that Dell will let you send in your non-updated monitor to be flashed with the new firmware, but Dell may not ship monitors with that updated firmware (at least not in the immediate future). All of this is from people asking Dell support forum people, and the answers seem to vary. I'm also not aware of anyone who's received a firmware update and confirmed that it fixes the dithering issue, though this could change any day. It's this kind of uncertainty that has turned me off of the Dell, even at such a good price.

For a moment, I thought I saw 'recertified HP LP2475 on sale'. The LP2465 is M/PVA, I think... seem to recall reading it might be an AUO MVA panel? Providing the recert displays don't have any real issues, $180 would be a great price for a 24-inch MVA panel. Mmm.

Oh! PRAD gave it a very good review.

...users will be pleased by wide viewing angles, deep black levels and smooth color gradients. Even semiprofessional graphics software is no problem on this monitor. For image editing, design or graphics work in professional domains though, the color accuracy of the HP LP2465's won't be quite up to the job.

Heh, this monitor cost about a thousand euros back in 2006.

Edited: clunky-looking thing, isn't it. $22 and change for postage and packing, so the price before tax would be about $200. Considering getting one for my ex-girlfriend, who's stuck doing all her work on the 13.3-inch screen of her MacBook. But what sort of warranty applies to this thing?

only problem is that in america the 90 series have a cool price tag, but here in europe for what u pay 1200 we pay 1800 and tha's out of my budget, i want someting in 23" or 24"

If I were paid by the hour for all the time I wasted on inferior monitors, it would be much more than the price of the 2490.

Amazing just how uninformative most of the LCD makers' spec pages can be. We all know the screen technology is Active Matrix TFT for that NEC panel; it'd be nice if all of the manufacturers would actually update their specs from ten years ago! Sounds like a good deal, except that claiming 'productivity' with only 1080 pixels smacks of stupid marketing gibberish. Oh well...

The NEC LCD2490 as Zebo has said is the best choice but if you absolutely cannot afford this then maybe the HP LP2475w if you can do color management with those programs. It is actually not so bad, as I was enlightened to by a forum member here. You pretty much won't be able to tell.

How is the SAMSUNG 2333HD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E16824001341)?

I am looking for a monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080 or 1900x1200 at ~20"-24", and this one seems to fit the bill. It is much cheaper than I would expect, so I figure its quality might be suspect. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into this particular monitor?

My head hurts. Monitors are a total pain in the ass to shop for. I've been reading for hours and essentially all I've discovered is that I'm screwed no matter what I buy.

The problem is I can't stand matte screens. I have a dark room so I want something to maximize my colours in such an environment -- all signs point to glossy! I use a glossy screen on my laptop right now and I absolutely prefer it.

Anyway, I don't know if anyone's willing to provide suggestions, but this is basically what I want:

Under $300 USD (MAX!)
Glossy
1920x1080
22-25"
Appropriate for gaming
HDMI
Speakers/Remote are bonuses
No Acers

It doesn't seem to exist. Asus monitors seem to be very well regarded but are matte which is a deal breaker for me.

Used factory menu to adjust the 6500K color temperature, knocked about 15 points off red, looks better, but still definitely wrong. Replacement is on the way.
