Yeah, that's why I said my memory failed me... OTOH it has to be cheaper than the ~$5xx 2475W so I'd say sub-$400 street prices in a month or so...

now sub-400...I'd really wait to see...I am sure this is based on current market rather than the list price of a former LCD panel. Most are accepting TN panels as the best...IPS is a real niche.

I dunno... this mayn't be a popular opinion, but I'd rather IPS display prices restrain themselves from dropping if lower prices translate into more crappy panels from LG.Display. I'm not the sort of punter who enjoys returning half a dozen displays before finding one I can tolerate. I'd rather pay $50 - $100 more to avoid a cycle of returns.

Interesting that HP lists the ZR24w as a 24-inch S-IPS display. Have we ever seen 24-inch S-IPS panels before (Apple had the 23-inch Cinema Display...)? On the other hand, I seem to recall HP initially listed the LP2475w as 'S-IPS' even though it turned out to be an H-IPS panel. Also, is the 'ZR' series a new display nomenclature for HP?

T2k, one can't of course necessarily tell from online anecdotes whether a certain display line suffers worse QA than others. Only the manufacturer has the real statistical data. However, it certainly seems that complaints about panel uniformity are all over the threads for affordable IPS displays (I don't single out the Dell U2410, we see this also for the HP LP2475w, NEC EA231WMi).

As to the warranty, Dell and NEC are both declining to replace some displays with uniformity issues because they feel the panels are within spec. This suggests the quality distribution is what LG.Display and these manufacturers agreed to at this price level. They (and we the end-users) would have to pay more to get better panels from LG.Display. This is why I have some doubts regarding even more 'affordable' IPS displays in the pipeline.

The DS-265W AFAIK was always IPS

Ah ok. Is a panel is S-PVA is it almost guaranteed to have ghosting/input lag or could it potentially be fine? I mean it does says its only 6ms response time, which is not bad at all. I have never had a problem with my 5ms monitors.

Winterpool,

the first-gen 2475w had a rather inferior S-IPS panel, with (lag) problems - then HP switched to the current H-IPS one and most of their problems went away.

Naming of ZR-series sounds like coinciding with the latest Z-line workstations of HP (replaced the entire xw-line.)

Where's a good place to order a U2410 from?

I'm currently running an NEC FE700 (From a few years ago.....) and really would like a nice IPS monitor to feed my freshly built pc. Been trying to find a U2410 at a decent price but would also consider something else if it was comparable. I'm looking for a monitor that is IPS, 1920x1200, at least 24" and has a display port.

Pryo, where are you located, or willing to purchase from? In the States, usually the best retailer from which to buy Dell monitors is Dell itself (for the U2410, Dell Small Business), when a compelling discount is in play. A little while ago, for instance, they were offering the U2410 round $479 again. I think it's currently $499. Buying from Dell does mean incurring local sales tax on the transaction.

Dell's eBay store always have a $499 price tag - same monitor, same warranty, same Dell invoice etc.

Anyone go to CES and find out?
Otherwise I will have to plunk down money for a 22-24" gaming monitor and deal with the trade-offs of good animation TNs with poor colors and poor viewing angles vs. streaky animation but good view angles and good colors H-IPS.

I highly doubt OLED will be available en masse anytime soon...
Lot of people think it's the Holy Grail but I don't think in its current form it is a better overall solution than a high-end IPS panel: first IIRC its lifespan is significantly shorter, second IIRC it PQ degrades over time (at least much faster than LCD) but I might be wrong about this one and last I haven't seen any convincing info about its colorimetry etc.

UPDATE: just came across this, it seems I was pretty damn close - it's full of good info: The case against a 10" AMOLED Apple tablet @Ars

Anyone have any news on the new and upcoming PA series LCDs from NEC? I'm very interested in the PA241W.

Hey anyone got an links to help me understand the differences between AdobeRGB, sRGB, etc etc

I've got a U2410 and though there's talk of getting the dithering issue fixed, I'm just wondering if I would even want to use those modes over something like Custom.

Also, with a hardware calibration device, it'll set the settings on the monitor, not in my OS to display stuff right?

And what are some decently priced devices for me to use with my U2410 to get it calibrated?

Thanks.

Read the Wiki article - because it's standard, you know how your red will look when you take it to prepress etc.

No, you're changing your "OS."

Anything sub-$100?

And that's unfortunate, the U2410 has pretty in-depth options in the Custom preset so a device that could set everything on the monitor would be amazing, but oh well.

That's called junk - my mistake: I thought you were looking for a decent, useful device...

There's zero difference from your user PoV where you set it.
