The LG W2286L caught my eye today because it is a LED backlit screen, the LEd Tv's look amazing though that is apples to oranges. Does anyone have any thoughts on the LED backlit monitors? For me this is for photography so the contrast ratio to display images is appealing.

This. I was also wondering about the Vizio Razor t.v.'s and the best option for a monitor/tv.

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying the new Dell M6500 17" Notebook Computer, I was wondering how hard it would be to
Change the display panel out for a LG IPS panel or something better. There seems to be a
problem with the colors bleeding. I am new to this, and I have not read this whole thread
Yet but I will there is so much good information in this thread thank you.

help :\

Just wanted to throw in that I just picked up an ASUS VH236H 23" monitor and I absolutely love it. Great picture, very clear and crisp, and paired with a 5850 games look incredible. Seems to my non-expert opinion to be a very nice panel for the price.

I'd been gaming on a 1440 x 900 19" that was my first LCD monitor, to give you a measure of what I was coming from. The difference in how far the technology has come is astounding.

I imagine this would be rather difficult. Also, I'm not sure notebook-size IPS panels are being made any more. Neither Apple nor ThinkPad use them in their current notebooks.

The exception here of course is the new 9.7-inch display on the iPad. But it's 4:3 and netbook-sized. I also doubt this heralds IPS panels returning to Apple notebooks, as Apple will probably want to use the screen quality to differentiate the iPad (and the 'pleasure' of consuming media on this device) from the MacBooks.

Hey XTnight! Long time bud!

Ok, I have what may be a Monitor issue. I'm still running the old rig in my Sig w/dual XP/Win7 RC boot. (had to find hacked drivers to get Win7 to work w/NF2 MB) It worked fine for months last year, but after waking up after sleep my old LG L1970HR monitor would blink then eventually stop after awhile. As time went on, it no longer stops. It now constantly blinks. I've tried new drivers, even replaced the old GF6600GT a month ago with a ATI 3850. Booted into XP (first time in months) and it still blinks, so I'm now suspecting the monitor. If I turn the monitor off for a few hours, when I turn it on it blinks at a faster rate for awhile before slowing to its normal rate. (another reason I suspect it)

Anyone every have a monitor do this?

I am finally building a new quad core rig soon so I'm thinking of getting a 24" monitor (I game, mostly race sims but some steam stuff too, but its a general family rig and some image pp cause I take a lot of photos for kids leagues and share them..but nothing serious)

The SAMSUNG 2494SW at Newegg has a lot of great reviews, and I think the 3850 could drive it until I build the new rig in a few months. Thoughts?

Well, I verified it was the monitor. My old Dell I9300 is DVI out, so I connected it to the laptop and blink blink blink.......

So I just ordered a ASUS VW246H. (Amazon, $228 shipped) My current rig should drive it ok till I build the new one....

BTW, real surprised no replies over a 3 day period, this thread used to rock. Bummer. All of XTnight's work is super appreciated by me, thats for sure!

PS...after I tested the blinking LG on my Laptop, I re-connected it to the desktop and when I powered up....no blinking!!!! I thought, WTF? It stayed on all night and the next day, but finally on the next night when Win 7 went into sleep mode, when I woke it up....Blink Blink Blink...I'm sure its still blinking. LOL! Can't wait for the new one.....

Reviewed the latest updates on the Hard|Forum thread on the Dell U2410. It appears a new purchase will almost certainly obtain the A01 firmware, and that the firmware has fixed the sRGB mode dithering issue. However, I'm still seeing warnings that Dell will not accept U2410 returns based on panel uniformity / tinting issues, as they insist panels 'are within manufacturer specifications for Color Gradation'. Otherwise, this does seem the monitor to buy circa $500 US.

Good to know, this just strengthened my case for getting a U2410 as my next monitor. I'm currently debating between the U2410 or the U2711 (whenever it's released), but it's hard to rationalize the extra $500 that I'd have to shell out for the 27".

Dell 2209wa @ $290

vs.

NEC EA23WMi @ $349

Usage model is: Web surfing, programming, videos, online poker (multi-table).

It will complement my existing 32 inch 1360x768 LCD TV I use as a computer monitor.

Which one would you guys go for considering cost? I'm leaning towards the NEC but the Dell looks strong.

I am looking for two max 20" (due to space constraints) LCDs in the $150-$200 range. They are for my parents, so they do not have to be anything special, but I would like DVI and for them to get proper bang for their buck.

Suggestions with links are appreciated.

I would wait for the HP ZR24W to be released sometime this month. MSRP of $425, 24" 1920x1200, S-IPS panel, standard gamut 97% sRGB.

Looks like it could be a winner. Hopefully it will come out soon and we'll see some reviews on this monitor.

MotionMan,

You willing to go to 21.5-22 inch? The options open up at this size and the prices vary from $120+.

I could definitely go bigger on one of them. The other one is going in a desk with a hutch that, I am told, will only accommodate a 20" monitor.

That being said, I am willing to check out the monitors that are slightly bigger and will check the dimensions against the hutch space the next time I talk to my parents.

(Does anyone else shop for computer gear for parents who are 400+ miles away?!?)

Is the ASUS VK266H the current go-to 1920x1200 hardcore gaming monitor at the moment? Is there a recommended 24"?

I looked through the Hardcore Gaming list, and the two models listed above it were no longer available anywhere (BenQ G2400WD and Acer G24). Looking for something under 400-500.

Auria EQ2668 Black 25.54" 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 60000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers - Retail

Anyone know anything about this? Looks pretty good, apparently its usually a fair amount more. I am looking for a decent 1920x1200 monitor for gaming and basic other stuff for under $300. Feel free to PM me as well with recomendations, as well as posting, just in case I cant find the post in this huge thread

My ASUS VW246H showed up yesterday and I love it! Have not calibrated it yet or anything, just plugged it in to verify no bad pixels. Instant 1080P. Played a little Stalker and then an hour of rFactor. Whoa! Gonna take some time to get used to gaming with something this size. Shooting was no problem, driving was harder though!

Newegg dropped a few $$ and free shipping.

My next one will be a 120Hz one, I know it made a diffence to my eyes back in the 19" Trinitron days, I can't wait to have it again. Some good reviews for the 3D ready 23.6" Acer.

A bit late, but the NEC PA241W was announced a week ago. Should be available in stores by the end of March!

Sup again guys. Well, first off, does anyone know why my name now has imported_ in front of it?

Secondly, I have a friend who needs some input lag tests done on 2 monitors, to see which one is superior. The only problem is he doesn't have a CRT monitor. His only option is a laptop with a VGA out. He is just looking for a reference point to test the 2 monitors against to see what one is better, but with the LCD input lag of the laptop being inconsistent like input lag is, and the input lag of the monitors being non constant, will this work at all? he already tried today to do it, but the camera wasn't good enough, the shutter speed wasn't fast enough, but tomorrow someone with a DSLR will be coming in. any ideas?

Hi everybody,
Can anyone, please, explain me the difference between Eizo's two series SX and CG or rather the deifferencу between two LSDs CG241W and SX2461W.
The two LCDs look almost identical if one compares their specifications.
However, while CG mentiones value of sreen uniformity (which is my top priority!) ΔE≤3 the specs of SX only say that DUE is present there.
Another stricking difference is weight. 7.4 kg for SX and 11(!)kg for CG.
So, what is the trick?
Thanks.
