I have recently bought an HP LP2475w but can't get used to its black. It is too bright even when brightness set to ca. 20, it changes rapidly with different angles and there is visible blacklight bleeding from all corners of the screen.
In other words, your monitor has a less than desirable viewing angle and a lot of light leakage, the known problems with LCD's, in general, that have been largely overcome or improved in the latest offerings from better makers.
If you're still within the return period, send it back and get a monitor that works. And before you buy another one, specs on paper are a start, but nothing beats going to a store and comparing at the models that interest you side by side.
