I'm having a bit of dilemma here. Dell currently has a MASSIVE discount on the U3011, reducing it to just under $1,200. But I already own the 2709W screen, with which I am perfectly happy and feel its size is just right for my space. However, it's very hard to ignore the value-for-money of the U3011 with this discount, which most likely will not happen again for a long time.

Should I order or walk away instead?

Hey everyone, my 22" LG L227 recently failed, and LG provided me with a 23" E2350. I haven't hooked up the E2350 yet, however what are the opinions of the E2350, especially relative to the awesome L227?

Thanks!

Why don't you hook it up and tell us...

Yeah I get wanting someone's opinion on something before you buy it, but if you already have it, why do you need us to tell you what you can see for yourself?

BTW, bought a 27" Asus VE278Q from amazon for I think about $350, holy crap this thing is awesome. Viewing angles are good for a TN, I can't subjectively notice input lag or ghosting or reverse ghosting, I'm not experienced enough to comment on colors, but it looks great to me and it's a TN panel so who cares about colors.

Primarily because I wanted to get some more information about a monitor I'd had no experience with in case there were issues I should be aware of or ask LG to provide a different model as a replacement for the L227 I sent back.

say what you will about TN panels, some of us don't mind them at all, my computer glasses (instead of bifocals) are calibrated for 2', when you go to your optometrist you can request that, instead of the normal arms length setting or reg bifocals.

I just picked up a new Dell 24"

specs..

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...p&sku=320-9334

for the price it was hard to beat

Some of us prefer a computer screen over a TV screen (16:10 vs 16:9)

Hey guys, wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that has a good deal on a U2410 going on? Might just grab a refurb off ebay for $350, but would be willing to pay a little more for a new one. Looking for a 2nd one for graduation

It was $480 yesterday.

They are coming out with an LED-backlit, standard gamut replacement for it in the fall. If that sounds good to you, wait. If you need wide gamut, you might want to get one while you can.

Well I already have a U2410 right now and would prefer to get another one. I can get one for $480 with a student discount but think I can find one new for around $400 on ebay.

I'm using an Asus VH236H (matte TN) panel; do you guys think it would be worthwhile to upgrade to a Samsung 2333T (glossy PVA)?

They're actually about the same price on Newegg, so I could sell the Asus to a friend and pick up the Samsung without shelling out much cash. I've never owned a glossy panel or a PVA panel before, though, so I don't really know whether or not it'd be worth it. I'm getting pretty tired of my gray-blacks and washed-out colors, though. I do a lot of gaming, but my reaction times are probably slower than even the slowest screens. To answer the inevitable wuestion, I've seen IPS panels and they look amazing, but I can't shell out that kind of money right now.

Newegg's description might be misleading, My 2333T doesn't have a glossy screen its the bezel itself that is a glossy black.

I have a PX2370(TN) and 2333T side by side, they both seem to share very similar matte type screens, the biggest difference I notice PQ wise is the 2333T has much better black levels and higher contrast ratio so its great for watching shows / movies and makes games look nicer especially if they're set in a darker environment.

The 2333T doesnt have any input lag issues it only tests around 3ms slower than the PX2370 and feels very responsive to me even with FPS games, It's the panel response time itself that is slower so you'll see more ghosting or motion blur during movement vs. a TN panel. Personally I dont find it THAT distracting but it is noticeable after being used to a TN panel.

I took this shot in an attempt to show black level difference but of course its not the best way to demo it.

Basically a 2333T measures a 0.04cd/m2 black level vs. the PX2370's 0.23cd/m2 so its a fairly big difference.

Personally I was also sick of crappy black levels on LCDs and have no problem putting up with VAs other weaknesses in exchange for proper black.

do you do anything which would require the absolute blacks a PVA brings?

Do you do a lot of HD Movie watching, and lots of things which require an accurate black?

If you dont, then i dont think you will really enjoy a PVA.
You will probably prefer your ASUS as it has a faster wake up time, so you dont miss your bios posts (on some boards), and u have less ghosting from a faster response monitor when you game.

I am running 2 x S-PVA's on my sides and a 27inch ASUS TN my center.

The ASUS is mostly gaming and Boot Post notifications, while the sides are for movies.

Few things "require" having good black levels, but I'd expect it to improve overall image quality quite a bit. I do have a smaller TN panel hooked up as well that I could see POST on, so that's not an issue. Even if I didn't, many motherboards (including mine) have an option in BIOS to artificially slow down the POST so that you don't miss it.

However, reading the reviews on Newegg for this PVA panel, it looks like it has inferior color quality for its panel type. I was planning to buy a small SSD this summer as well, but I think an IPS panel would be a far better investment.

Consider my budget ~$250 for an IPS panel. What's out there?

Three I've found:

LG E2370V-BF 23" IPS, LED Backlight: $260
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005232

LG IPS231P-BN 23" IPS, LED Backlight: $240
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824005234

Dell U2311H 23" IPS, CCFL Backlight: $290
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraShar.../dp/B003QTKV9W

Which of these would you guys recommend, and/or is there a better deal I should be considering?

Drizek, I've been trying to find the Dell U2311H for cheaper, but have so far been unable to. If you could point me towards a site or a coupon, that would be awesome.

In other news, the cheapest 23" IPS monitor just got cheaper.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-24236122-L09C
(crappy Asus w/ LED backlight) -- $170 after e-blast coupon.

I don't know if the QC is just bad on the Asus screen and a good percentage of them have issues, or if they all have issues and only the astute customers notice them.

It looks like it goes on sale about once a month and, seeing as it was on sale last week, we're probably at the beginning of the sale cycle right now. It's at $270 right now.

If I can get a reasonable enough price (hopefully ~$150) for my TN panel out of this friend of mine, I'll go ahead and make the deal and order the Dell at $270.

If he ends up giving me less for the thing or the current deal expires, I'll use my decrepit 1280x1024 as main monitor until the U2311H goes on sale again.

Thank you for the help and advice!

Hi, I'm also considering these monitors. LG has another one that's very similar: LG IPS236V-PN (basically the same as that 231P above).

Amazon has the E2370 right now for $231 - it's the highest on my list of considerations.

What I like/don't like:

- All of the LED backed monitors are edge-lit. From what I've read, the CCFL's actually give you a better color gamut, but will dim with age. Ugh.
- All of these are 6-bit IPS panels, not 8-bit.
- All or 1920x1080 and not 1920x1200

A few upcoming monitors:
- A U2311 replacement is coming out any week now. It will be LED lit vs. CCFL lit, so it will probably be just like the E2370/IP231/IP236/etc.
- A U2411 is coming out, but seems worse all around - worse color gamut, 1080px height, etc. Gotta love how technology is going backwards.

For me, the biggest problem with LCD's is the poor black levels. Am I better off going CCFL backlit or LED edge-lit?
