I'm not close to retiring, but I sure as shit will not have any problem finding stuff to do.

Retirement is all about money and health and a partner or friends. Do you have the health and money to travel a lot and explore stuff, and the right person to do it with? Then sounds like a more exciting retirement. Do you have family to spend time with? If you don't, then not as exciting.

I build and make and design things. Having time and $$ to do that, I won't have an issue with keeping busy.
I was never healthier than when I had lost all that weight and was riding a few hundred miles a month.
I see some morning yoga and then haul the bike to a trail nearby for an hour or two of riding on many days, but sure as shit not all of them.

EDIT:
19 months and 3 weeks to go, but who's counting?

My concern is whether I'll have the health. My 50 something body aches and doesn't recover like it used to. If only visits to doctors and blood test results register high scores as a good thing like video games, I'd be winning.

I hear that and that is why I have set a date. GTFO while I can still do a thing or two.

yeah with my stress and blood pressure and back problems and memory issues, i feel like i need to retire in my 40s

because i don't see myself lasting much longer than that, at least with the capability to enjoy life

You can join a social or philanthropic club like the Elks club. Tons of folks to hang out with, lots of activities, you can volunteer you time and help others. Oh and by the way did I mention they have bars with cheap drinks.

I've started mapping it out a bit. Retire at the end of the year (not this one but not too far away). Do absolutely nothing for 4-5 months. Then maybe see about a few trips but in Sept I might look at taking some community college classes. I like learning new things but the requirement to do that as part of being good at my job doesn't leave me with much mental space leftover beyond what I use for the "This thing is broken in my house how do I fix it" kind of thing. And it might be good to have some structure provided by someone else around building a foundation I can build from on my own.

Slow travel is another thing on our list. Spend 2-4 months in a location before moving on while either keeping our house or downsizing. With my wanderlust I don't see us settling down in any particular place for a long period of time and if I have complete schedule freedom I'm going to build some insane routings

Yeah but what is the age distribution and hours of interaction? If I retire at 48 I don't necessarily want to hang out only on the weekends or with 75 year olds

30 and Out from Big 3.
You don't do the 30 all at once. One day at a time.
Being retired is the same way.
(Been on the sidelines for 19 1/2 years.)

I have about 25 more years to go.. ugh.

I cannot wait to do nothing. And once I get bored, then I'll do some volunteer work.

I envy you.

Yes I count my blessings and am grateful every day. But corporate grind sucksssssssss

What do guys do day-to-day? Don't tell me it's filled with 'productive' crap. Ugh.

I hope to enter semi-retirement in the next 10 years, give it or take. Right now, I’m in the process of attempting to monetize one of my hobbies while I still make a lot of money and can invest. I don’t expect that I’ll get rich from it, but I hope to have a decent income stream from it while having fun running my own business in retirement.

Yes the crowd can be older but it really depends. There are about a dozen Elks clubs in LA/Orange county. Some have younger crowds while others are like you said, full of 70 year olds. Get your group of friends to all join so you all have a place to hang out. That way when you tell your wife you are going to the lodge meeting, but just meet your friends at the bar and watch sports. Then once in a while to not blow your cover you can invite the wife or family to the club for one of their formal dinners or brunches so they are none the wiser.
