Seems my Asus P8Z68 MB is coming to the end of it's life (has issues booting up , so Im leaving my pc on 24/7)

What would be a good upgrade for me? My Processor is Intel Core i7 2600K.

Would another Asus board, but a Z87 board with a new i7 K processor be worthy upgrade?

You can still get decent price for your 2600K, so sell it and that will help fund your Z87 and i7 4770K combo. If you live near a Micro Center, it'll be even better!

How long have you had the board? About 2 years? If I had a board that only lasted 2 years, I think I would be looking at another brand.

As for the CPU, that is up to you, but my i5 does everything I could ask of it, and still surprises me how fast it is in certain situations.

Of course, once the upgrade bug hits, it's hard to say no.

I don't know what your budget is, but if I was buying a board for a Sandy Bridge right now, this one looks pretty sweet:

Thanks. I'm down to either Asus Z77-A or the GIGABYTE GA-Z77

The Z77-UD4H and UD5H were pretty solid boards, you can't really go wrong with either one of those. Depends how much you're looking to spend on a board, at at that point, you may as well justify upgrading and selling your 2600k.

I actually love Sabertooth boards so I'd buy Sabertooth Z77 myself.
But for better price/performance products you can go with Z77-UD4H. Or the cheapest Solid Z77 board will do the trick(generally).

A friend of mine just got an ASUS P8Z77-V Pro from Amazon for like $150 along with a Core i5 3570. You don't need a new chip if you stick with Z77 although their is no upgrade path.

The Z87 and a Haswell chip will support the Haswell refresh chips that are released this year.

Depends on your budget and whether you were getting satisfactory use out of the Sandy Bridge rig.

Frankly, what you describe may not be problems with the board itself. Or -- if you have "controller-going-south" problems, there are not-too-expensive solutions for that -- too.

I've had my P8Z68-V-Pro now for 2 years, six months. I'm trying to figure out all the possibilities why you have these problems, but not all are hardware.

If the processor is still good, I'd just replace the motherboard after you're sure it isn't something you can "fix" yourself.

When did you start using the board? Is there a warranty on it? Mine is an older socket format and I'm going on 4 years of 24/7 usage on mine and have zero issues... So, with that in mind, I'd say choose the Gigabyte. I'm a total Gigabyte fanboy.

Can't be 4 years old. Sandy Bridge isn't even that old. Try more like 3.
