Another Craigslist find! $70 for the lot.
That's a complete SNES console with two controllers and instructions, boxed Super Metroid with instructions, Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda, Super Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Donkey Kong Country, and... uh, Madden '93. Sweet!
Nice find! Always wanted one of those.
I am now debating if I want to get my original NES toaster modded with Kevtris's HDMI mod. I mean, if I do, I will probably want to do other mods to it as well (at the very least do whatever it takes to enable expanded audio so it works with the HDMI), and probably need to pickup a Powerpak (even through I have the Everdrive N8, it looks like without using a very early set of mappers, it does not work with the HDMI mod due to the way it syncs the clock between the board and the NES CPU).
Problem is that the Powerpak is always sold out (it is one of the reasons why I got the Everdrive since it seemed like the Powerpak was no longer being actively developed and supported aside from the community that uses it).
Originally they both (Powerpak and Everdrive N8) were to be supported on Kevtris's kit. Unfortunately after extensive testing Kevtris could not make his mod compatible with the Everdrive due to the Everdrive using a poor way to interface with the CPU/PPU of the NES on recent mappers. This also appears why the Everdrive has issues with certain CPU/PPU combinations that are out there in different NES hardware, with the solution for those that ran into said CPU/PPU combinations to use the version 3 mappers (I think they are up to version 10+ now), which restricts compatibility for many games.
Kevtris has offered to help resolve the issues with the Everdrive N8, but without access to the source code, can not see how difficult it would be to fix, and therefor can not say for certain how easy/hard it would be and how long (he would also like to be compensated for his time since he would be fixing someone else's product). No public word from the developer of the Everdrive yet on the matter (might be on vacation for all we know).
It irks me just a bit that this HDMI mod can prevent operation of something that would work on my NES before modification.
Earlier in the development process, I heard the HDMI mod could be disabled and you could use the original PPU with RF or AV. If they kept that feature in, can Everdrive still work when you temporarily disable the HDMI mod? *ihopeihopeihope*
Everdrive works now, so: of course.
Everdrive works now, without the mod, so, of course it will work with the mod disabled.

You know, I never completed "Godzilla! Monster of Monsters" for the NES growing up (I think I rented it at least 2-3 times). So I pulled it out (I got it a couple years back in a large auction lot). I always died against Ghidorah. I finally leveled up Godzilla enough this play through to be able to win. It was still a VERY close battle, with me winning with just 1 health bar left (I got lucky with the RNG and Ghidorah didn't go into the lightning breath attack).
