470s use less than 220w at stock, that's less than 440w in SLI for the adding impaired.

Price is nice, but I'm also talking about multi gpu configs, do we need to see laugh out loud 4.8GHz performance graphs in SLI from [H]. You get what you pay for no matter what you pay, and with bulldozer you don't get much either way.

Don't your SLI 470s use about 600W or more at full load? Nobody else sees the irony?

Are you really trying to justify the power consumption of BD by comparing it to SLI'd video cards?

Might as well compare the MPG of a SUV to that of a weed whacker.

Nope, I'm not.

Is your point that the power consumption of my tri sli system would be lower with Bulldozer instead of SB because even though bulldozer uses twice the power it would produce such a tremendous bottleneck that overall system draw would be noticeably lower due to the gpus operating at 33% on all three instead of 99%?

Are you unaware of what you have in your own sig?

Are you not aware of the difference between SLI, TRI SLI, and QUAD SLI?

You said SLI, yet meant TRI SLI, and then had the audacity to act as if I was mistaken.

I figured where i said "your" made it painstakingly obvious I was talking about "your" setup. Are you now trying to argue that you don't have an SLI setup, since Tri SLI and SLI are two different things?

I guess we need to start being pedantic, I could say "bulldozer" has much lower power consumption than you claim, since "bulldozer" includes the FX-4100.

Lets get real. You knew I was talking about your setup and instead of admitting you were wrong you tried to fudge the figures by using the power usage of only 2 video cards.

Put Balla, Chiropteran, and Axel in a room. Who will come out alive?

So what exactly was your point?

You said there was irony, I asked for you to point it out. Let's get back to the "irony" of the situation.

SLI and Tri SLI are different - I'm pretty sure that's apparent. Since we're talking about power consumption, using SLI to encompass all facets of SLI would be pretty hard to discern since you can "SLI" four cards.

I thought it was ironic that you would comment on the OC'd bulldozer's power usage like 568W was something crazy when your own setup probably uses double that at load.

That is, it's an ironic statement when you make it sound like 500W is a tremendous amount of power, when reality is that it's far less than your system's power consumption.

Check out my sig for my FX rig. I was surprised that I saw my UPS hit over 320 watts when I was playing Arkham City. Thats about equivalent to what I saw my 2500k @ 4.4ghz hit with a GTX 480.

It's not ironic at all.

I didn't say whew 568w is a lot, I said whew, 568w while being slower than a 244w processor, whew still slower than a cheaper 311w processor - that's garbage.

Honestly I can't really take you seriously anymore, gl.

Sorry, it's the dictonary definition of ironic. Making something sound like the opposite of what it is. Your post implied that the 580W power draw was some incredible amount, when the reality is it's far less than your usual power consumption with the rig in your sig.

Like it or not, that is irony.

Yeah that's exactly what I was implying, 580w for prime95 only is a lot. Especially when you know performance wise all it's doing with those watts is creating heat. It's not getting any extra work done, no more than a cheaper quad core that uses half the power.

That is A LOT.

What wasn't implied was that total system draw of 580 including several gpus was a lot.

lol so silly.

bulldozer still sucks --> power draw --> SLI --> 470 hogs power --> the meaning of irony

Guys he was right, I am sorry.

Bulldozer does use less power in SLI/TRI SLi, despite it's horrendous power consumption in MT.

Ironical.

If there are bets being collected, I'm in

This is one way to keep this un-apologetically page hit oriented thread alive and breathing, though...

WTF on 5 Ghz BD power consumption... OP, provide some really useful info and kill-a-watt that guy...

This thread fails

Not yet it doesn't. If we can put all three of them in a cage like rabid dogs we might see just which CPU and GPU manufacturer is king. It'll be like a three-way fight to the death with maybe some awkward making out and apologizing at the end.

i wanna see the 8150 ran as a 4m/4t at max oc (maybe it clocks higher than 4.8/4.9) vs a phenom x4 at max oc. maybe someone else could provide the phenom benches to compare...

I am looking for someone with an 1100t that can oc to 4.2-4.3 range who would be willing to help me have more data points for comparison. (another column beside intel 3770k).

Also due to the high demand for a power consumption numbers during stress, Ill be getting to this as well! Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Chiropteran managed to bundle a straw man with an ad hominem. Nice work.

I've been interested in BD, but it is a shame that it didn't perform up to everyone's expectations. I'm certainly looking forward to Piledriver. Hopefully they can make some power improvements along with their performance increases.
