I can't stop playing this game...it just has a very well done multiplayer. Anyone else have the addiction? I usually play on the m8s server, since I know and like the m8s guys and they're about the same skill level as I.

Yes, I know what you mean, but I've abandoned it for Enemy Territory, and then I moved to Call Of Duty, where I can be found nowadays.

COD is a good game, but it lacks the multiplayer aspects of RTCW/ET ... specially categories (medic, eng, ... ).

But have you tried another one since RTCW?

Not really. I've thought about playing ET, I have it downloaded and installed...but I'm to lazy to set my config up all over again. That, and I'm not sure about that rank system thats in it. I tend to stick with games I like, and RtCW just has a very polished multiplayer. It focuses on good teamwork.

Maybe I'll try to get into BF1942 though. I own that game too.

I have been playing RTCW since the 1st day of the multiplayer beta release. Still play it at least once a day

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of servers left though -- I usually end up on TAO back to beach or M8's

Whats your handle on m8s? I play on there a lot...as PingSpike of course. I played with those guys back when they were HR1 (THE GAME was server), then they broke up and reformed a few months later. It took the server a couple months after that to get back to its full status.

Man, I'm so sick of beach. Seems like everyone and their brother runs a beach only server. My favorites are probably ICE and ROCKET. If I'm not on m8s I usually am on this shrub/destruction only server with 8 lives. Its a bit different since you play a war of attrition basically.

To the guy who has only played the single player: Dump that and get on the multiplayer, its a lot different. It uses a stripped down set of weapons and has 4 classes of player that have to work together to be effective. The single player in RtCW is pretty bland, nothing to get excited about.

I go by ^N2K

I don't play on m8s a whole lot, use to play on Kojin back in the day when it was a good server, and grey wolf. I was playing tram on m8s last night.

I still like Beach, its a classic... but I have a liking for all of the maps, except maybe Dam, it just sucks.

I've seen you on m8s before, but not recently.

I hate tram even more than Beach come to think of it. Beach is ok, I'm just tired of it. I just plain suck at tram...I function better indoors and most of tram takes place outside. Plus its so hard to win at tram because there's just so much ground to cover, and 15 minutes makes for a long game.

Dam is an aquired taste, it definately differs from the standard setup...there's a lot of pointless secondary objectives, and its pretty easy to defend if you've got a good team that knows what they're doing. (LTs down on the lower walkway watching the ladder can wreck major havoc...its impossible to get down that ladder against a guy who knows what he's doing.)

The best way to beat dam is to get boosted through the grate at the start and go straight for the objective. (do NOT get the secondary spawn) I used to do that a lot...but people are getting wise to it and started watching the grate.

no fear...I used to be in clans and all that with RTCW and really, seriously hated ET beta. When ET final came out I was much surprised how many things they made right. Still RTCW gameplay to me seems more pro like play, etc. but in the end I just play ET now and will for quite sometime. As for your comment about "back to beach" you can delete RTCW and still play some classic maps on ET that were unofficially converted over to ET...like beach, ice, base, and village...look for the RED text here.

I know what you mean I never fully converted all my voice bindings from RTCW to ET...I use use V21 need medic and V22 need ammo..stuff like that...I'm too lazy too.

There does seem to be a consensus among RtCW players that ET is the 'dark side'...many seem to look down on me for mentioning that I might start playing it. In the end, the only thing that has really stopped me is the bindings. I spent a lot of time creating my config and tweaking it...so when there's ET multiplayer and wolf multiplayer on my desktop, I just double click the one with the controls that work.

Also SP in the game is currently the best in any FPS I've ever seen.

That's saying alot coming from you, and I agree. I have a short attention span when it comes to single player games, and RTCW was one of the best I've played.

*gets out his RTCW CD to reload*

Wow, I need to try the multiplayer. I liked single play, but was still stuck on Q3A for multiplay until Battlefield came out.
What's a good server for someone to learn RTCW multiplay on?

Hmmm, I thought the single play was good, but nothing to get excited over. 8/10 I gave that. The weapons were a bit uninspired, but a lot of the enemies were cool (particularly the zombies with shields) and the sound and levels were pretty good.

I play on m8s, but thats more of an intermediate skill level server. To get the feel for the game, I'd read a couple basic strategy guides and hob on one of the newbies servers. It can be hard if you don't know how everything works. I'd stick with the medic class early on...you can do the least damage to your team that way. A lot of newbies go straight for the flame thrower and cool their whole team.

The multiplayer isn't ultra realistic, more like arcade team based action. But the weapons are more on par with a realistic shooter than a game like UT for instance.

RtCW was the first FPS shooter I played and I absolutely loved it. And that was the single player.

I never thought I would like FPS multiplayer until I bought CoD. After playing the SP game I decided to give the MP a try and haven't been able to stop playing since. It's so addictive. Also, every week new maps come out that you can download. It's like playing a new game each time you play one of the new maps, which is very often. Every week you find yourself playing in a new map that you haven't played before.

I love the opening cutscene...but

Did anyone else not find the story a total cliche...there's an ancient evil thats being contained but cannot be destroyed. The bad guys are trying to unleash the evil and you're trying to stop them. You do everything right but the evil is unleashed anyway for some reason and now you have to kill it. WTF? That ALWAYS happens.

Dude, RTCW's weapons are some of the best I've ever seen, period. Did you not like the Paratrooper Rifle and the Venom? What about the MP40 and the Silenced Sten?

id anyone else not find the story a total cliche..
Yes but some cliches are just good no matter how tired they are.

I shot out a google and saw this post. what great times. I'm Zero the founder of that clan ^HR1^ the black and the blue. Started that game in Beta. Then played with "The Lions Den" TLD clan before founding ^HR1^ with my Buddy Havoc . recruited Xander a m8s now and Mockingbird. Put up the Game server running a hack free no Mod vanilla official map pak server. When territory hit we were pretty Big. over 20 and pretty Elite competing in Cal league some. everyone wanted to lead and no one wanted to help pay for the server. the core of the split was really over some of the members abusing there admin status on "The Game" so we cleaned house and kept just a few core members. =m8s= formed from the group we removed. Then it was Call of Duty one 2003. We regrew into that. After UO xpak we did call2 . then started to split off into some mmos and other games as the market flooded and real life took a hold of us some what. Great days to look back on as they say Blood Mud & Beer.

I've been thinking about this recently, and thought I'd like to play it again. It's easily my favorite game. Never played mp, but I've gone through the sp campaign, as well as numerous mods a few times.

I wish people still made mods/muts for sp. Everyone jumped on mp cause it's easy. Make a map, and you're done. No story, no ai, and limited scope. HalfLife had some great mods too.

When RTCW first came out i played that game for years, some of the most fun MP in a long time back then and there were 128 player servers with custom maps (the map creating community was incredible). RTCW costed me $100 after taxes back in 2001 and it was worth every single penny and as a banana for scale, I have a hard time justifying buying a game nowadays for $100.
