Wanted to go to aldi today. For kicks, I checked biglots to see if there were any coupons available since it's close to aldi. Didn't really need anything, but since I was in the area... It's a friends & family weekend, so 20% off your whole order. Since I didn't need anything, I figured I'd stock up on cat litter or something. Worth the minor diversion anyway. They had 14oz smoked salmon boxes half off for $5 since it's a seasonal item. Add the 20% off, and I got 70oz of smoked salmon for $20! It's been a good day :^)

I finally figured out why my brain stays constantly fried. HYPOGLYCEMIA!!
No wonder it took a glucose-laden drink to make my brain function.
No wonder I'd start a boosting phase - adrenals kick in to raise blood sugar. Body's hardwired to correct for low blood sugar.

Too bad I didn't discover this years ago. So much down time due to a shortcircuited brain.

Yeah man. I've got reactive hypoglycemia, due to a stomach issue. Fried brain FTL! I do better either eating every few hours, or fasting all day & just eating dinner. If you ever want some tips LMK. Sadly I have far too much experience with it lol.

You have any comment on supplementing with the amino-acid Glycine?

Other than protein powder for when I want to hit my macros for the day but I'm feeling lazy, I don't use any supplements, not even vitamins. Macros (i.e. eating according to your body's daily requirements for protein, carbs, and fat, which is found using a simple & free calculator) is a whole separate discussion we can have if you want to dive deeper into properly feeding your body, but I would say it's not essential for managing reactive hypoglycemia (but is very useful!).

Pretty much, aside from actively tracking your blood sugar (my reactive hypoglycemia is not diabetic-related), you just have to learn how to listen to your body, which takes time & experimentation. The goal is simple: feel good from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep. If you wake up feeling like crap, if you have dips during the day, if you wake up at night, then you need to adjust your diet in terms of what you eat, how often you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat.

Once you master all of that stuff, then you can pretty much cruise around the whole day feeling good. I felt so bad & so mediocre for so long that I didn't really know there was another way. You should absolutely wake up feeling great & then feel great all day long from sunup to sundown, and if that isn't the case, then it's time to make some adjustments!

For me, it's pretty simple - eat small meals every few hours. That's a big reason I got into food prep, just so that I could have things ready to go in order to stay feeling good all day long instead of having energy dips throughout the day & getting brain fog. Once you find out what works for you, the key is to simply setup a system that enables you to provide yourself with the food you need, when you need it, every day. Having a good system is essential to managing reactive hypo imo.

My new saw came in! I didn't have a banana for scale, so I used an apple :^P

Can't wait to get some time with it, but work got busy. Maybe this weekend....

What kind of apple?

2 minor plumbing projects over the weekend. 10 minute jobs that actually took 10 minutes each.

Pink Lady from aldi. They've been reliably good for awhile now. That's usually what I get when it isn't the brief Stayman season.

1. Thanks to the polar vortex, my area was just cold enough for bosses at work to have us work from home. But it wasn't cold enough to cancel the daycare. So I get to be at peace at home.

Got back at an annoying co-irker today in a meeting, scratch that, I got ahead. I waited 4 1/2 years for the moment, and when it came I nailed the stupid bastard in front of everybody. It wasn't that big of a deal, 4 1/2 years ago he threw me under the bus. Today he has tire tracks across his back. I never forget a kind favor, or a dis-service.

How did you find out you have hypoglycemia?

I'm guessing it's not the same, but it made me think of how I now get headaches if I don't eat every few hours. My mom has complained of that for as long as I can remember, but I never remember having it until around last year or so. At first I thought maybe I was getting dehydrated (I honestly don't drink enough water, IMO) but that don't seem to have an impact on it; food does though. It's annoying cause I'm just not used to eating so consistently but it sucks if I don't. Though a couple ibuprofen take care of it if I take them.

Red delicious eats shit. I'd rather have no apple than have a red delicious. If I had a store, I wouldn't sell them, and if I had them in orchard, every fucking red delicious tree would be cut down and used for firewood.

I miss honeycrisp apples, now those are tasty.

For me today I thought I had run out of brita filters and had to order more and then wait for them to arrive. But then I found a bag of 8 of them hiding in the pantry. Score!

Went to aldi today, and they had big ass bags of nuts in the shell! They were hard to find this year. I /may/ have overlooked them previously at aldi cause they were in the packaged nut section. They should be near seasonal, or produce. Oh, well. No matter now. I bought two bags. I love these in the winter. Next year, I'm gonna get a few bags when I see them. That way, I won't be missing out.

Should probably be in the fwp thread, but there's been more almonds and hazelnuts than the the other kinds the last couple years. I guess they're the cheapest to grow :^/

Youtube video said it would take ~1.5 hrs to replace the Tacoma headlights. Even with several trips to my shop and having to take a few bolts out because I had an extra clip....1.5hrs. Woot.

Now if the $41 aftermarket last half as long as the $230 OEM...double woot.

You can DIY or see a doctor. Basic process:

https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-to-know-about-reactive-hypoglycemia-1087744

They have test kits on Amazon if you wanna track it yourself:

https://www.amazon.com/KETO-MOJO-Glucose-Testing-ketogenic-Carrying/dp/B0789G8KTG/

You'll need some glucose strips to go with that particular kit:

https://www.amazon.com/Keto-Mojo-Precision-Measurement-Diabetics-Nutritional/dp/B07899NFZQ/

I basically got it as a result of invasive surgery a long time ago. Goofed up my stomach, probably from all of the antibiotics (mine isn't related to diabetes). Honestly it's not super hard to manage once you learn the rules. Meal-prepping helps a bunch. Like for breakfast, I like breakfast burritos, so I'll make a bunch of different flavors (steak, chorizo, sausage, bacon) & freeze them. Small meal size + good protein hit right off the bat, then a brunch snack. So you basically eat Hobbit-style...first breakfast & second breakfast! lol. It was one of the reasons I just kinda felt like crap all the time. Your basic goals should be:

1. Wake up instantly, without being groggy
2. Have energy from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep, with no energy dips
3. No headache or stomachaches
4. Proper bowel movements (happens on a regular basis, solid stool, quick to go)

If you wake up groggy, have low energy or big energy dips like mid-morning or mid-afternoon, get stomachaches or headaches on a regular, and don't have swift, easy, consistent bowel movements, then you just need to make a few tweaks to your diet. And also go to bed earlier & do some exercise, both of which I never did before about ten years ago, which is when I took ownership of how I felt & how I looked. It's nothing difficult, just some minor adjustments is all.

LMAO. Dude I agree, those things are feces. Granny Smith ftmfw! I remember a friend on Facebook years ago posted some meme that went something like "red delicious? more like red not-so-delicious." Us red delicious haters are around!
