Went to the gym this morning and it felt pretty good. There were a couple of bros there bro-ing it up, but they left about 30 minutes in.

Most won't consider this a good thing but I love it for my purposes. All of these fine US companies sell your info to the credit bureaus. Ex.: Order a delivery pizza and your name/address/phone are sold. So what does that mean for my business? I've got a customer that's due for 2/2018. He lives in this strange little community that has a gate, not to be confused with a "gated community", so I can't go knock on his door. I pull him up on equifax this AM and, bam, there is a brand new phone number. We're on speaking terms again but I'm not sure he's feeling the love.

Realized that I could buy some freeze dried strawberries and put them in my already-delicious Honey Bunches of Oats Strawberries to make it even greater. Ordered the strawberries from Amazon; hopefully they're good.

Gonna head into Red Wing store and perhaps get some boots (didn't earlier this week) after work. F my child-sized bitch ass feet.

We got freezing rain today, which sucks. But good news is I am off today so don't have to go out in that.

I do need to buy cat food though... I really should have done that yesterday.

Found it from my bank that I could add the cost of buying a 2nd property on my existing mortgage. The one I am looking at is around 40k. I don't think I'm actually going to buy it as I might find something better and I want to try to just pay it off faster and not add more money to it, but still great to know it's an option. If the perfect property comes up I might go for it.

Perfect for the bank too if some disaster happens and you default.

Yep, don't do it. I wouldn't think about buying more property unless I could do so in cash and/or I knew it would instantly provide me with income.

Yeah going to hold off, but it's nice to know it's an option. Would use my corporate shares to do a down payment then put the rest on the mortgage. But really I want to try to pay it off faster instead. I'm finally at a point now where the payments are putting a decent amount of money right on the capital so kinda don't want to get behind on that. I also increased them by $50 biweekly. Base payment is $400, I've been paying $600, and now with this change I'll be paying $650.

So may as well concentrate on trying to pay off the mortgage first. By the time that's done I'll have accumulated enough money through our stock program to buy a piece of land cash. I want to buy in an unorganized township anyway, no permits needed or any BS like that. Way cheaper to build something high quality when the government is not involved. The money I would have to spend on permits and all that BS can go towards overbuilding everything instead.

What I have in mind is a 2 story cabin with nice big porch area in front, and then a nice living space on second floor to overlook the lake (bonus if it's north facing to see northern lights too) and basically a couple bedrooms, and a nice office/hobby area. Eventually a separate huge garage so I can learn to work on cars and stuff. I'd vlog all of that, who knows maybe even make money in the process.

Nice part though is when it's built to a point where I could live there, if I was to lose my job, I could sell my house and then have enough money to do any important finishes to the property, and then move there. With virtually no bills I would not have to worry so much about what kind of job I need. Could settle for a low paying job closer to the property in a smaller nearby town and it would pay for the little reoccurring costs I'd have. So the property will also act as a security blanket. At first, it would just be a camp though, as no way I'd want to drive an hour+ to work all the time.

My parents moved last year and gave me a bunch of stuff, including the grandfather clock that hasn't run since pretty much as far back as I can remember, or at least since I was a kid.

I finally started working on it and got it running! Had to remove and re-install the chains onto the sprockets and put the weights on. Couldn't get the pendulum to keep going for longer than a couple of minutes, and then I realized the support rod for the suspension spring was missing. I found it wedged in the back, attached the pendulum correctly, and it has been going for almost 30 minutes! The tick/tock seems even enough, at least compared to my computer clock, but I'll probably find out if its running fast or slow in a day or two.

The chimes sound a bit dull and muted, and some of the striking rods (?) are hitting the rods off-center so they need some adjustment. That's for another weekend.

Check it out!

At some point I'll clean and polish all the brass. I didn't use gloves when handling the weights or anything, as it's all dull. The cabinet is in great condition, though.

Wow that's really cool. I feel this type of tech is slowly going to be lost, as everything is just electronic now since it's easier, but there is a certain coolness factor to mechanical clocks.

Yeah, that's what my friend said - it'll all be dead soon. I like older stuff like this. At the very least, it's cool to see it work (without batteries) and you learn a lot when you need to fix it. It's not just some throwaway circuit board making it run.

They can be sensitive to balance, so if it quits on you, that's an avenue to explore. It can be a bit of trial/error work, but it isn't difficult.

Yeah, I had to level it front to back. There is a slight scraping sound on one of the ticks (or tocks) but I can't see anything rubbing. Maybe something just needs to be tightened up, but it's still ticking away and seems to be on the dot.

Got an "Exceeds expectations" for my annual review. That bumps my pay 5% and my annual bonus amount, which is 7% of my pay, is paid out at 120% of that amount. This is the third year in a row. My manager likes me but also recognizes that I've been working very hard. I'm grateful for that as I know so many that bust their buts and get little, if any, recognition or reward for doing so.

Wow I wish our annual reviews meant a pay increase lol. We get little 0.75% raises once a year depending on what we end up getting in the union agreement, but that's about it.

I got a promotion at work - I'll be transitioning from the design team to managing the system test engineering team, which will be split off from the current test engineering team. Lots of exciting new hardware and software for me to play around with!

I'm nervous, but nothing is happening overnight and this is probably going to be the best fit for me. I've been on the R&D team for about eight years but never took to actual, real design work. It's going to be sad to leave the team, but I'll still work closely with them. This new position will eventually lead to meshing development work (electrical characterization) with system testing, using our new test hardware/software. I'm glad and a bit relieved that I'll be the one to head it up and make it all happen.

I still have all my fingers! I was one handing my top handle saw today which isn't a great practice in the first place, and I was getting careless on top of that. I was cutting up dead limbs that were on the ground, holding them in one hand, and cutting with the other. I hit a small branch, and the saw jumped, and went into my left glove. I could /just/ feel the steel brush my skin. Take off the glove, and nothing. Not even a scratch. Got a hole in my old harborfreight glove, but it was a pair that's almost ready for the trash anyway. Aside from being stupid, it was a pretty good day :^D
