Link - Click through to read. You have to scroll about a third of the way down to get to the review of the actual movie. Everything before is kind of an overview of how the reviewer feels about M. Night's previous efforts. Spoilers obviously.

Summation: M. Night Shamalamadingdong is not getting better. I dread to see what he does to Avatar: The Last Airbender. It just doesn't fit his style of movie making at all.

Not even going to read the OP's post, but wouldn't reading this thread waste the fun of the movie? Maybe I am wrong, but that was how it was with his other movies. Anyway, I will bookmark this thread and check back after I see it.

Ehhh, interesting question but it depends. Movies like this, I'm more than likely not going to pay to see so I'll read the reviews...even the spoilerific ones. Movies I really want to see, like Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Narnia, etc I won't ready any reviews.

I have lost any and all interest in his movies. I'm surprised he keeps getting financing to make them quite frankly.

The Sixth Sense had its twist ending, ok, interesting. I atually liked Unbreakable quite a bit. BUT, from there its just been a train wreck. Signs was beyond stupid. The Village went even further beyond stupid. And The Lady in the Water almost seemed like a parody of itself it was so poorly conceived and written.

This doesn't sound like its going to improve anything.

It sounds like an interesting concept.
As cute as Zooey Deschanel is, she's not a very good actress... not BAD, just not very good. I might end up catching this one on DVD.

Am I the only person who really liked Signs? Granted, one or two things about the plot were goofy, but it was never about aliens. It was about faith and destiny. I thought it was mostly brilliant.

i dont care how good it looks in the previews, no way in hell i will see it!

pretty much ALL of his movies looked good in the previews but were some of the worst movies i've ever see before.

slick5150 hit it on the money. lady in the water is just one of the most awful movies i've ever seen in my life.

i think a lot of his problem is he markets his movies as genres which they are not.

I liked his first four movies - didn't see Lady in the Water. The quality of the movies has been going down but I thought I got my money's worth for the four movies that I saw in theaters. They have gone from Very Good (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable) to good (Signs) to not bad (The Village).

I suppose he could deliver a good/very good movie again.

I liked it up to a point...but then there was like this demarcation line in the movie where things got really stupid and Shymalan hasn't recovered since.

With the actors in the movie, I'm kind of have some hopes the movie will be good. I think it has the potential. I refuse to read that review, because, well, I don't want 'what a twist' moment ruined. But yea, his movies, once spoiled, really just don't work
The Sixth Sense and Signs are about the only movies I can watch multiple times and still enjoy, although Signs being the only true one I can enjoy still. Unbreakable, if I go a long time without watching it, I can enjoy again when rewatched.
The Village, while I liked... just won't be that good anymore. His movies are definitely structured for the first time watch, and lose enjoyability once viewed more than once.
And while he hasn't been that great lately, I don't think he's terrible, and if The Happening ends up having a good story, I think it'll be a good movie. It has the faces attached to it.
However, the title is terrible.

I'm wondering if this movie will be redeeming for him at all or not after the shit hole of a movie Lady in the Water.

Mostly brilliant? God no. Passable entertainment? Sure.

Edit: Read the review. If that's really the twist he has in the spoiler-hider, that's the most ridiculous premise I've ever heard of for a film.

I just love how the only marketing spin they can put on this thing is "The first R rated film from the director of Signs and the Sixth Sense!"

I agree. I might rent this one day to see just how pathetic it is.

Bah, I guess all of his plots in the first few minutes of his movies. No shock or twist for me. I did enjoy unbreakable tho, even tho I guessed the whole plot-outcome tho. Sam Jackson just rules in everything he is in, except for the atrocities known as star wars episode 1-3.
