My aversion to DAO is that it only functions in a single mode, double action.
There may be a circumstance in self defense where a SA would be better suited. With DA/SA you have an option.

But whatever a person gets: train, train and then train some more.

One of my favorites is to stand about 10' from a target. Have a friend shout out a shape and color then you put 3 rounds in that shape/color as fast as you can with accuracy.

I built some target stands out out of 1.5" PVC and furring strips.

Paint, ftw...

just don't hit the pvc pipe

<---learned the hard way. I didn't like miss the target and hit the pipe. It's actually stupid how I did it. I made one similar to what you did and I was shooting targets from it. I then decided to start shooting at a spinner target. I put the spinner target in front of the pvc stand, not thinking about it, and I ended up hitting the pvc base and busting it to pieces.

The PVC is just the base and the first 18" of the up rights. The rest of the frame is furring strips. About $2.50 a piece. I painted the strips in fluorescent colors for better visibility.

Can they be? Yep. Would I trust my life to any out of the box 1911 with HP's? Nope. If you go the 1911 route you have to be willing to invest in a proper amount of testing with your carry load of choice. The RIA's are a great value but aren't immune to 1911 issues. Feeding HP's is an ongoing problem from $400 RIA's to $2000 custom jobs.

That's why I bought my S&W 3913. I read a review of it that said it would load a red house brick if it would fit in the chamber.

Get something in 9mm, so you can at least afford to practice with it.

My first (and only) gun is a 9mm Taurus Mill. Pro. I wanted 9mm because down here it's only ~$10/50rnd box. I've shot 500+ rounds through it and feel confident in my abilities to accurately hit a paper target.

Plus, I also carry it as well and while a revolver is carry-able, it doesn't do well inside the waste band, like I currently carry.

Schneiderguy and Jeeebus are now M&P9 buddies (though Jeeebus actually gets to shoot 17 rounds in a mag).

I'd buy the M&P. 9mm +Ps will do the job defensively and if you ever move out of CA you can buy un-neutered mags. Can also reload an auto much faster than a revolver. That and I'm just an auto guy through and through, revolvers are nothing but range toys if I have a choice.

A revolver doesn't leave evidence on the ground ;^)

Bullets are evidence... and very easily traced to a particular gun.

That said, I had a S&W model 686 once years ago. It was a great gun and I always kind of regret selling it. I do own its big brother though, the model 629 with an 8" barrel, it also says Magnum (which does indeed get the chicks wet).

Not with an auto, you can just scratch the shit out of the barrel, replace it, pitch the old one.

It's pretty pathetic that the un-neutered M&P9c can hold two more rounds than the neutered full size M&P9

I did order a couple of 17 round rebuild kits. Just in case of zombies :hmm:

Wait, so you can't own the mags, but you can own the kits? Learn something retarded about California every day. Don't get me wrong I agree that the ammo capacity limit is stupid, but if you're going to do something do it right.

Yeah we can own them as long as they aren't assembled. As soon as you assemble one you are committing a felony D:

Similar oddities are available to everyone...you can buy parts to make your AR15 into a SBR without doing the paperwork to make it legal and as long as you don't assemble it you're fine

Silly commie states that require waiting periods and registration. I left work at 745am for the DMV to get my DL switched from Texas to North Dakota. Got there at 8am. Walked out at 810am. By 830am I was the owner of a high powered rifle without any restrictions.

I like the .357 Mag cartridge a lot more then the 9mm. Simply because of its raw power. You can also shoot .38 special out of one if you wish.

.38 special is about as powerful as 9mm but you can reload much easier with an automatic.

I would recommend something chambered in .40 S&W or .45 ACP so you get the extra power along with the capacity of a semi-auto.

My personal preference is higher power rounds > low power high capacity rounds.

Recoil of an automatic is slightly less because of the slide, in a revolver the recoil feels like a slap to the hand as opposed to more of a gentle push that you feel in an auto.

Here's where I think you should use the cartridge the gun was meant for. If you wanted to shoot .38 special, buy a .38 special revolver for cheap.

I have an AR-15 had a .22 conversion for it. Shooting .22s through it was not fun and a waste of money. Sold that .22 conversion.

Who says they have to shoot hollow points? FMJ does the job just fine.

XDs are good guns.

On topic:
Pick the one that feels the best and you enjoy shooting the most.
.38 special can be fired from any .357magnum perfectly fine lol, no conversion or anything required. Good for just going to the range. HMM.
