Put 150 rounds through it today without any issues. I like it

When I get enough money to add a polymer frame to my collection, an M&P will probably be my entry. I just like the lines of it more than the Glock or XD/XDm, although the XD/XDm would be more practical due to the 1911-ish design.

Get one or more of each.

Go with the revolver as it is less maintenance and is more trouble free than a semi automatic. Semis, need to be cleaned and lubed often and they can jam, something a revolver will not do. Only thing, I would get a 5 or 6 inch barrel version. They are more accurate, easier to shoot than the short barreled models. I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum with a 6 inch barrel and while it is noisy, the recoil is very manageable.

I experienced too much rollback with my Blackhawk .44 with standard grips. Had to get custom grips. Wish I still had it.

My M&P is probably the best "feeling" semi-auto I have ever held. It just feels comfortable. For whatever reason, I hate the feel of a Glock.

Depends on your hands I guess. I've only fired a Glock once, and I didn't mind it, but it wasn't anything magical.

FWIW after owning both (got the 686 a couple of months ago) IMO the 686 is the better gun. More accurate and I like being able to switch between .38 and .357.

I installed the APEX sear and striker block in the M&P which makes the trigger much better than stock, but it's still miles behind the 686's single action pull.

I've put almost 2000 rounds through the M&P without any failures

All I can tell you is I sold my .45ACP, but my .357mag will never go on the block. Had to sell one of them, and the wheelgun won out.

i can't imagine any double action trigger, even with a trigger job will ever beat a single action trigger.

I think the .45 is easier to control. I'll go with being able to hit my target multiple times in quick fashion over being able to do the most damage with 1 hit. And that is why I like 9mm.

so you're saying on a revolver, the double action trigger pull is better than the single action trigger pull?

I've shot some VERY nice double actions (the aforementioned Python being a famous example), and I would go so far to say that a really good double action is better/easier for me to shoot than many single actions. But.... quality of the firearm being equal, a single action is going to be easier to shoot well and accurately.
