Ok, so im looking into dieting plans, and began to think, what about a rice diet? Many people from chinese descent eat nothing but rice, and they are in very good shape, granted they do a lot of physical labor durring the day. I wanted to know if a diet that consisted of mostly rice would pose a dramatic result or not.

gimmick diets don't work. do you plan on eating rice only for the rest of your life? eat 5-6 small meals during the day and exercise at least 3 days a week. losing weight isn't complicated.

nah its not the rice, its the lack of food and rice... back then there isn't mcdonalds to flood the food market..

rice is carb.. to dr. atkin.. its suicide..

there are so many different type of rice.. Im not sure if regular supermarket sells the same type of rice an asian person would buy.. i think genetics also plays a roll in diet.. but good luck

It's about portion size. Eat a small bowl of rice with some dishes is fine, use the rice as an indicator of how much you should be eating. When that bowl of rice runs out, stop eating.

In essence, the "Stop Eating So Much" diet works wonders.

I used to weigh about 200 lbs or so, then I ate less. Now Im at around 145 lbs or a little bit more.

I lost all that weight by just eating less, my physical activity remained the same: pretty much nonexistent.

So my thoughts on losing weight are to just eat less than you do now. And DONT DRINK SODA!!!

Many people from chinese descent eat nothing but rice

can any chinese ATOTer confirm this? as far as korean cuisine goes thats simply irrelevant. in all honesty, i dont even like korean food that much.. but most asian diet i know incorporates tons of veggies (various beans, onions, spinach and whatnot). the key is less sugar and fat intake.

The top one is BS. Most chinese people eat rice as a staple but other things are needed ie. dishes. The thing that keeps most chinese waistlines down is small portions and lot's of walking. In america there are plenty of fat chinese people, but not as much obese since we dont eat at mcdonalds and those palces as much. And since we're chinese and inherently cheap, we mostly eat at home.

White rice has no nutrional value at all. Well it does cause huge insulin spikes. Brown rice, at least, still has fiber. Eating only rice is very very unhealthy. I used to work with a girl who was mega-broke in college and she only ate rice for a couple of years. She developed gallbladder issues because she didn't have enough fat in her diet. Had to have surgery to remove it.

Anyhow rice does not make one thin. As others mentioned, controlled portion size and a lot of excercise will keep one thin.

correct. white rice is terrible for you. when it was introduced into china there was widespread desease and many deaths because of lack of vitaments etc. Eating brown rice is healthy for you as it is known as a "complex carb." However eating nothing but rice is not healthy for you. And neither is eating no carbs.

eat a lot of rice and you will probably gain weight, not lose it. eat a normal diet, no excess of anything. and the most important thing you can do is to skip all sugar drinks. NO SODA! that is how I lost weight anyway ... i see some people knocking me theory

Chinese people seem to be much more physically active. They walk, bike to work and many of them exercise. We're talking mainland China here.

its not like eating pasta where u get that itty bit of sauce. chinese people eat atleast equal portions of vegetable/meat dishes with the rice.

Just start only drinking water for a few days. Then when your down to the weight you want shift back into eating but add hardcore excersize into it to bring your metabolism back up to normal. Please note I am not responsible for any idiots that die on my diet plan.

I must be an exception to Asian people then because I would rather drive my car than to walk a block.

I think the key to why asian diet yields less lardass is because you need dishes to go with your rice. That keeps your diet in balance. Usually, you want a vegetable dish, a meat dish, and a bowl of rice. Also, asian cooking don't deep fried a lot (except tempura from Japan).
