Yeah I agree, those vandals are just as bad as the dentist and should be punished for their crimes. It's one thing to destroy his business by legal means (e.g. not patronizing his business anymore), but to physically destroy or do damage to his personal belongings is crossing the line.

I guess the only right thing to do is for someone to pay a lawyer 50k for a dentist hunting permit.

You and other don't know the definition of what sport means.

Sport means simply and outdoor pastime activity. That's it. So hunting is a sport. Your qualifier constraints don't mean a damn thing to the application and definition of the word.

BZZZTTT

Way wrong, nice self ownage.

Sport implies competition, not merely exertion, and every common definition of sport shows it. Otherwise some fat guy getting winded weeding his tomatoes would be participating in a "sport". Hunting is not a sport. Nothing is a valid sport when only one side has guns and the other side doesn't even know it's playing. Arm yourself with wolverine claws and hunt a bear, that would be a sport. Hunt snakes with your mouth, that would be a sport. But drunk assholes in tree stands blowing away Bambi are not participating in a sport. They're just assholes who get off killing things.

I think hunting should be made into an ACTUAL sport, one where the playing field is level and both sides know the rules. Men who get off on killing should grow a pair and hunt other men who are in turn hunting them. Turn it into paintball, only with real weapons. Rope off North Dakota, it's not like anyone uses it anyway. Sell hunting permits to whoever has the stones to hunt a creature that can fight back and send them all into the North Dakota arena. Any human you kill is fair game and you can tie them to the fender of your pickup and mount their head on the wall. That would make the survivors true sportsmen. Anything less they're just poseurs who have never outgrown the thrill of sticking fire crackers in a frogs mouth or burning ant hills with a magnifying glass.

Was just going to post this. Mother fuckers! It's equally tragic that a lion that had to lose its life that wasn't even for food, but the Planned Parenthood crap is just as bad. Now some asshole shot his brother. I wonder if the cubs will be put in wildlife protection?

The Planned Parenthood thing is just as bad? So when someone cuts up a video to make a fabricated account it is worse than or equal to what is going here? Really!?!

I want to know who will stand up for the bovine?

The bovine, bitches.

No one stands up for them being slaughtered by the millions.

Don't get me started on the fowl...trillions....

My Grandfather was a Dentist in down town Charleston S.C. in the early 60's . I used to hang out in his waiting room that was covered with stuffed animals of every sort . Large birds , Big Cats , bears , small cats (bobcat-lynx)and squirrels and too many more to mention . I loved it . He was the president of the S.C. hunting club from that area .

Obviously. Big game hunting is good money for them.

They couldn't care less about some First World Internet Rage of the Week.

Yeah, except the tourists shooting animals with cameras bring in much more money and when the animals are gone so will the money from both the hunters and the tourists with cameras. Slow death...

sport implies anything challenging where you can build upon a skill. competition is not needed. Rock climbing is definitely a sport and so is hunting. where in the hell do you get your mental picture of hunting? "drunk assholes in a tree blasting bambi because they are sick psychopaths who enjoy killing shit? fuck me dude get over yourself.

the rest of you post is just blah blah blah im a idiot.

Per the article he turned out to actually have permits in order when the hunt was done... the individuals that baited as well as one of the park directors are still on trial though. With that there was nothing he could even be charged on and no bribes should have been needed.

Not even close ... rock climbing is a sport because they compete against each other, who was the fastest etc -- so who is the hunter competing against? Hunting is NOT a sport, it's an activity that benefits from having skill, but unless you're hunting another human that knows you're hunting him hunting can't be a sport -- sport!

sport
spôrt/Submit
noun
1.
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
"team sports such as baseball and soccer"
synonyms: (competitive) game(s), physical recreation, physical activity, physical

There are places, of course, where hunting is part of survival, but not many in the west need to hunt to survive and for many the cost of hunting is way more than it would cost to buy in a store.

Try again...

Of the additional defs #2 is more or less defining it as applying to competitive activities done out doors, #4-7 are relating to the ridicule use, and that leaves #3 'diversion, recreation or pleasant pastime.' That could apply to just about anything meaning anything is a sport. Masturbating is a pleasant pastime and by that interpretation it's just like hunting!

Hey, you may be on to something!

Sucks that he wont be charged, but really there are lot of legal ways to do what he did, it just so happened this particular one was a grey area. Something in general needs to be done to stop this kind of poaching. It happens a lot with elephants and rhinos too. At the current rate, elephants will be extinct in 10 years. Other animals are probably in a similar boat.

What jarrs me out is that some people say the money paid for these poaching rings is to help the animals... if you really cared about the animals you would just donate the money, not go kill one.

But at least this guy's reputation is pretty much screwed so at least there's that. He might still be a rich bastard but he'll practically have to isolate himself from society, at least for a while.

The whole argument posited by those that promote trophy hunting is that the money paid helps the natives take care of the other ones, the ones not killed by the trophy hunters, and that the money is greatly needed. Here's the deal ... the people get far more money from tourists shooting cameras than they do trophy hunters with guns -- not even close. When the animals are all gone neither the tourist nor the hunters will go there and the money dries up.

And just as significantly, when the locals associate killing Lions with a fat paycheck they're in fact less inclined to protect them as they'd prefer to make bank on the ones killed. Sort of destroying the village to save it mentality.

The Great White Hunter has been playing this game in Africa for more than a century and if the pro trophy hunters were correct there should be more Lions and Elephants today than a century ago -- how'd that work out.

But, trophy hunting isn't the biggest reason for declining numbers -- disappearing land is the main reason. Still, it would be nice if hunters would stay away from preserves rather than look for loopholes to kill protected animals.
