While I find trophy hunting repulsive, it sounds like he is a professional at it.
He has legally paid for and killed a huge list of animals.
I'm sure he knows the procedures and rules.

He very well could have thought this hunt was also legal until they found the collar.
On the other hand, he could have known full well or turned a blind eye just to bag a lion.

Lol. Don't act like that because you "use the meat" you are any better than this shit stain. You're not a farmer, you and he both enjoy killing for sport. GTFO with the justification.

I know i'm far better. YOu may not like hunting and i don't care if you do or don't.

The media sure has stirred up a frenzy and the OP continued with their sensationalist rant.

You make it sound like he went and killed a Zimbabwe citizen. You know, an actual person. The guy may be an ass but the rage-aholics aren't much better. Ignorance all around.

I think the phrase is "ignorance of the law is no excuse", and several laws were indeed broken.

Thing is, it looks like he did everything properly. securing permits, reported the incident to local authorities, etc. The local "guides" that baited the lion out of the park, removed his collar so they couldn't track it. Not trying to defend this guy, but those lowlifes are the real criminals.

Even if it's 100% legal, Zimbabwe gives you ten grand, and the Queen makes you a knight...trophy hunting is a dick move.

You don't have to agree with the whole concept, but according to the article some other parks also sell hunting permits to raise money.

California Desert Bighorn Sheep are one of the most coveted animals for hunters. Each year more than $200,000 is raised by the auction of the permits to shoot dead three Desert Bighorn Sheep.

Did you just say that killing a deer that you then eat is just as bad as killing a lion you leave to rot? Maybe you should sit down with a cool drink. It is July, after all.

What's your point? That if multiple people / organizations do something, it's okay?

It's far more noble to let someone else bludgeon your meat to death, skin it, carve it up, wrap it in cellophane, ship it to a restaurant, cook it and serve it with a side of pommes frites. Anything else is just uncivilized.

He paid $50,000 to some local hunters in Zimbabwe to help him kill a lion. They lured the famous lion, he shot it with an arrow, and then tracked him for 40 hours before killing it, decapitating it, and stripping the carcass, leaving the meat to rot.

The poaching aspect is what bothers me the most.

If you want to be a big game hunter, man the fuck up and hunt big game. Don't get a couple of mercenaries to cripple it, track it for two days while it wastes away before finally decapitating it while it can't fight back or run.

Sensationalize much? I think you need to lookup the definition of poaching.

Wounding an animal and tracking it and then finishing it once found is a key part of hunting pretty much any larger animal, especially with a bow.

Nah, I'm saying that "using the meat" is a bullshit excuse for satisfying some people's urge to kill. They don't need the food, they can go to the store. What they can't buy at the store is the rush of killing.

None of which applies here. He had all the permits. This animal wasn't protected. It was just people's favorite.

Reminds me of the time that pizza delivery guy got stiffed on a $7 tip by the auto sales place. F&R auto sales. If you yelp them, they got some bad reviews like this dentist. haha, social vigilante justice indeed

You also can't buy independence, problem-solving, patience, or a deeper understanding of nature at the store.

I'd love to see the permit that allowed them to do this. The hunt was so legal his two guides are facing 15 years in prison.

During the hunt – which the organisers later admitted was badly carried out – it was alleged that Cecil was lured at night about half a mile out of the national park using bait, and then shot with a bow and arrow.
...
Animals cannot be killed within the confines of the park. The hunters then removed his collar – further contravening park rules

That is incorrect. There's a reason the two guides are being held and charged with poaching in Zimbabwe.

Agreed. But this thread is all about a rich poaching dentist. No one wants to talk about the guides as this fact was already brought up and ignored.

I understand what poaching is. Killing within the park - in this situation - would have been poaching. There was purpose in luring the lion out of the park: to avoid a poaching charge.
