I worked at a high end restaurant and we saw lots of black cards. Never treated them any different. If they were a regular, and spent a lot of money, then they got special treatment. Besides, who the hell takes out their CC before they pay the bill? Does he go the hostess, flash his fancy CC and just expect better treatment? I'm confused.

I loved telling guys they were declined. These guys who were all business. Eating alone, on the phone through the whole meal, if not talking then staring at the screen. Maybe with some papers out of the briefcase.... anyways when I came back with their bill I might say something like "sir, this has been declined". The look on their faces....

At least it never affected my tips!

The guy is getting ripped off, if you have a certain balance is your account here in NZ, you get no fees period...I guess because the bank is making heaps out of your money!

Just a thought...

The receipt says "owners fee' which may mean that it wasn't his bank and he was using another banks ATM.

That might explain a lot. Could be almost any type of account that has ATM access.

Highly doubt it is real, there's just no reason to keep that much liquid, none. Any financial planner would cut that by a huge amount and, at the very least, put that into a MMA. Hell, even Fidelity offers a MMA that allows you to use an ATM but, AFAIK, C1 doesn't do that. Even then, that's a huge opportunity cost.

I'm confused, how is the guy arrogant? How is he any more arrogant than the guy who leaves his ATM receipt showing a balance of $23.51 in the machine? Stupid jealous reporters.

This.

Trying to figure out the point is. The other customer should have just tossed the receipt in the trash and gone about their business. The personal finances of other private citizens are no concern of yours.

It's a computer error. See my post above about a balance of (1 million dollars)

I thought when you withdrew from another ATM it did not show your balance from the other bank. Unless you specifically asked for balance, which this is not.

The guy should have taken that slip, gone to some fancy club, macked on the hottest chick there saying he was from out of town and then wrote his phone number on the back of it to give to her.

It only works once, but it's free so...

Only if you forget to photocopy the receipt.

Why do you assume he has an account with Capital One? He probably gets reimbursed for those fees from his own bank.

I'm not saying people will kiss your feet at any restaurant you walk into. What I'm saying is if you have a black card and you call concierge etc you may be able to get a reservation at Nobu, while someone without a black card probably has a slim to none chance.
