"Brian Cashman was swarmed by a group of Connecticut police officers who drew their firearms on the Yankee general manager Friday when he was apparently mistaken for an armed car thief, The Post has learned.

The 52-year-old GM of the Bronx Bombers was driving his white Jeep Wrangler from Yankee Stadium to Connecticut after it was reported stolen last Saturday, according to team sources.

[...]

According to Cashman, Darien cops were already “responding to someone in a white Jeep that was brandishing a gun in a local doctor’s office.”

To make matters worse, when Darien police ran Cashman’s license plates, the vehicle came up stolen because “the NYPD never took me off the stolen car list,” he said.

As Cashman pulled out of the gas station as many as five patrol cars zoned in on him and between six to nine officers got out of their cars with their “guns drawn,” he said.

[...]

Cashman said the dramatic ordeal took roughly 15 minutes before he was back in his car being escorted by Darien police to the Norwalk Police Department."

^^^ "I was in a very black mood when my car was first stolen," reported imaginary Cashman, "but I turned white with fear when those cops stopped me. I believe that saved my life." /s

I hope he got to drive off into the sunset while "Happy Trails" played in the background.

Ever wonder what it is about us that makes us go crazy with rage when something we own is stolen? My grandfathe's Winchester 30 30 disappeared when I was a kid and I can't get pass feeling that loss. I still think about it from time to time. I could have died myself all those years ago and nobody would miss me much less that gun.

People are fundamentally territorial and covet the things they've worked for. It's the primary reason so many don't like socialism, even in situations where it would benefit them.

Clearly, some people not only covet things they don't work for but will steal to obtain them. There goes that pride of achievement. We also have to be careful with the notion of what it is we work for and what is a human right. For one thing, there would be precious little we could work for were it not for the work of people long dead, the very people from whom we have all descended. The wealthy pretty much owe their entire wealth to the environment and society we all live in created by them, our progenitors. I see no ethical dilemma in the successful paying for that.

As long as work is required for a dignified and sustainable life, work is a human right. Eventually we will have to socialize the machines so that each person has a relative equal return on what they create. Work, the need for human labor, will reduce greatly in the future but people will still need to eat.
