Richard Hammond begs BBC to show Top Gear 280mph car crash

With Top Gear facing the axe, injured presenter Richard Hammond has begged the BBC to show the 280mph car crash that almost killed him.

In a bid to save the motoring show, the 36-year-old is also prepared to appear on television live from his hospital bed as BBC bosses have said they will only screen the new series if Hammond is well enough to appear on it.

Hammond, who suffered a serious brain injury after his jet-powered dragster crashed, is desperate to get in front of a camera as he is worried the programme will be cancelled before he has had a chance to recover from his injuries.

A friend of the presenter, told the Daily Star: "Richard could not stand to feel he was to blame for the demise of the show he loves.

"He's fuming they've postponed the next series because he fears that's the first step towards the BBC pulling the plug permanently. He's terrified they're going to axe it while he's stuck in hospital.

"He'll do anything to keep Top Gear going, even if it means broadcasting from his hospital bed.
It would be an emotional broadcast for everyone involved and a ratings winner."

Hammond, affectionately nicknamed the Hamster, has been angered by rumours that Top Gear's future is in doubt as the new series which was due to be aired on October 8 has been postponed indefinitely.

Now out of intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary the presenter has amazed doctors with his fast recovery as only last week his life hanged in the balance.

Reunited with his two daughters Isabella, five, and Willow, two, he is now walking, talking and eating.

Producer Andy Wilman has threatened to quit the show if the BBC try to tone down the show's emphasis on speed and stunts.

While co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson, 46, said: "Swarms of bureaucratic bluebottles are nibbling away at the crash site on York airfield desperately trying to find some reason why Top Gear should be banished from our screens."

 WOW! Way to go!!!!

The hampster is my hero.

Jeremy Clarkson tells all in new column <<--- Brilliant read

cancelling the show? what are they nuts? those 3 (or mostly JC) turned the show around and now they have a studio full of audience, formula 1 legends going to the show, and they want to cancel it?

Im sure with as much fan base as they have if the BBC should cancel it it will get picked up by another station. Im sure other stations are drooling at the chance to get thier hands at the show and wouldnt be suprised if they havent made some huge offers knoing good well what this would do for the show and thier ratings. All the new fans just hearing about the accident and "finding" it would be stupid of the BBC to do it. Unless of course the BBC did start the rumor themselves to cash in on this big time, then way to go BBC and the show for doing it. Bigger pay checks all around!

Thats kind of scary, he had / has brain damage and it could be severe. He probably should stay in the hospital longer so nothing occurs. But the show is brilliant and they shouldn't cancel it because of him not being able to come back for the beginning of a season.

They ran an edited version in the US with a lot of stuff cut out on discovery. It was such a hit that Discovery is planning a completley American version, which will suck ass.

O man... Hamster is the man! I can't believe after getting all knocked around at 200+mph he seems to be recovering very nicely. Good enough to be talking, begging, and going on air soon.
It will be great to see him in the upcomming shows if he decides to keep going on with TG and that TG will not be axed.

What's the appeal of the show, anyway?

cars, jokes, competitions (jokes), the stig, cars, clarkson, presentation and the british accent.

don't forget Clarkson's bias and eternal hatred for American cars.
