I just watched the Final Cut for the first time a week or so ago. been a long time since I watched BR, and maybe the 10th time I've watched it....it just gets better every time I see it.

This is terrible, this news.

That being said, the film essentially ignores the heart of the novel so it is a very, very different story in some ways (which is fine--it is a film, after all) so I would wonder if the intent is to address some of those elements? ...I hope not. The film is great for what it is and just sand on its own.

Are you referring to how the novel portrays replicants and/or wants us to view them vs how the movie does?

Could be interesting in whaty modern technology would allow, but it's been sooooo long and could so easily be screwed up.

not the replicants, but the value of life, in general--how animal life is possessed as a form of status--the long, detailed descriptions of Deckard and his mechanical sheep.

Some of this is hinted at, more or less in passing with a few lines of dialogue, but it is the central conceit of the novel. It is there in the film, in a way--which does a better job of portraying these themes through replicants, but I feel as though the Deckard character in the film ends up lacking substance--no back story to speak of.

Harrison Ford is awesome, but from what I saw in the newest Indian Jones, he is well past his prime -- no shit due to his age.

I get the feeling they're going to turn it into a Michael Bay style blockbuster if they do a sequel. And replicants/drones are so common, it just doesn't really work anymore.

Agree, not only that could anyone ever come remotely close to the awesome performance of Rutger Hauer?, no.

Lets get Damon Lindelof to write this too. :sneaky:

Dammit, You stole my line!

We need the Lindelof to continue to drag Scott's reputation down to Shamalamadingdong territory.

Lindelof is the very proof that you don't need talent to be successful and no fair god exists.

There is very little exposition for Deckard for a specific purpose, and it is very effective as such. A bunch of explanation would have ruined a device that Scott obviously wanted to use to convey a nearly subconscious idea. It allows him to plant a seed and let it fester in your mind rather than hitting you over the head with a hammer.

I know--which is why I like the film--it is a great film, it isn't a novel, etc.

It works because it ignores this central thread of the novel...which would put everyone to sleep. Granted...Blade Runner still puts me to sleep

Hollywood and the game industry are really scraping the bottom of the barrel these days...

Well, at least the movie industry is still surrounded by (mostly) honest critics.

The gaming industry and their "professional reviewers"? Circlejerking so blatant and indulgent, might as well cut the pretense and give 11/10 and GOTY of the GOTY for every $100M+ budget game released.
