I don't have much to add that hasn't already been discussed. That said - I enjoyed the movie despite all of the holes in the plot.

I think Scott must realize the errors in this movie, and I have no doubt that the sequel will correct those mistakes. He's got 95% of the formula down; a little more work is all he needs.

How did this movie, with such a pedigree, end up so bad?
Like the unexplainable plot holes, it doesn't make sense that any director or studio would let a movie out that had so many problems.
It is not straight to disc budget film; it is major major Riddly Scott $$$ production.
It seems as if someone would/should have stopped it from going out the door like that.
It would have been a bad movie anyway, but a little bit of editing could have patched up half of the problems.
5 plot holes are better than 40+

IT had NO plot holes... but then those people that don't let things "like that" out the door decided that space-Jesus was a no-go.

You may not have noticed this, but the Xenomorph changes throughout the series, especially when it comes from a new creature. That part is 100% consistent with the series. The one in Prometheus is alien + Engineer. The one in Alien 3 is alien + dog or ox (depends on the version). The one at the end of Alien Resurrection is one that was blended with human DNA and has a human face. The concept is that they seem to adapt to different species like some kind of multi-cellular macro virus that's compatible with almost any DNA on a complete organism, rather than cellular, level. It helps explain how the fractured seeded DNA can come back together into a human (like viral phages) and it shows how the seeding technology is related to the weaponized tech.

Sorry, but I do not consider Alien 4 to be canon. It should have been sold as a spinoff. Same with Alien 3 and all the AVP movies. If they have left Ripley out of everything except the 1st & 2nd movies, it would have been far more forgivable.

The human + Zenomorph DNA to produce that soft-skin alien hybrid was just plain stupid. Too many directors/writers abusing their creative license. I don't even think that any of the Dark Horse comics ever deviated that far from the source material like that 4th movie.

The classic Zenomorph is the glistening hard shell, silicone based creature with no eyes and phallic shaped head (based on Giger heavily erotic influence). Variation is acceptable but keeping true to the original formula is very important which James Cameron did very well.

Some of you are wondering about the alien accelerated growth. I saw it once explained before that these aliens like energy/electricity rich environment: power plant, nuclear reactor, blast furnace, etc. Which lead some to believe they are like living batteries. Acid for blood akin to battery acid.

that doesn't make any sense either. the energy released by the hiroshima bomb is equivalent to about 1 gram of matter - these things gain hundreds of pounds in an hour.

Ok. You have a point. However, I never thought about the power plant thing, just concerning the battery acid.

And we do assume it's several hundred pounds. Perhaps they lighter than you think though. When they blow apart its never any bones. Any crazy Fanfic person know how much an alien weighs ;p

She was holding an axe, the Engineer breaks in, and no axe. So maybe it magically disappeared.

An axe with her puny strength wouldn't have mattered. She's a scientist, not a trained Navy Seal. I could have disarmed her and I don't have the strength of 20 men like the Engineer.

tell you what... for shits and giggles - please post video on youtube of you disarming a small woman that is armed with an axe. If I don't see the video, I'll assume you underestimated her and are currently laying on the ground with an axe through your skull.

Hate to break it to you, if you think a 5'4" shrimp scientist could hit an 8 to 9 foot military trained Engineer in the skull (like he'd just stand there) with that axe then you're fucking delusional. And yes, I could disarm the bitch because I'm trained in mixed martial arts (aside from the fact that I'm much bigger than her). Ever heard of closing the distance?

Teenage pimple farmers are funny like shits and giggles.

I'm assuming this post was made by a small woman covered in your blood. As the victor of your hand-to-axe fight, the spoils go to her. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd have seen the video of you, the internet badass trained in mma, taking that axe from her like the ninja we all know you to be (I mean, the badass you used to be, on account of the fact that you're now dead).

And I'm sure you're a badass in all of your video games posted in your sig. Fact of the matter is that Noomi Rapace is a 5'4" shrimp and her character wasn't trained in martial arts weaponry. So let's cut the bullshit whining about her stupid axe already; the odds of her even hitting the Engineer with the axe is low, let alone his head.

Btw, didn't you know that I also have Adonis DNA, tiger blood, and I'm battle-tested bayonets, bro? I’m tired of pretending I’m not a total bitchin’ rock star from Mars. Look what I’m dealing with, man, I’m dealing with fools and trolls.

fuck if I care about this movie or the back and forth between 2-3 people about whether it was fantastic or not. I'm also not joining the speculation about woman vs 9 foot alien. I just find it amusing that you're so confident in your abilities to win a fight vs an axe wielding woman due to your mma training. The only one referring to themself as a badass here is you. I just think it would be amusing for you to prove it. Worst case scenario... you post a video of you beating up on a girl. Best case scenario (for us, at least)... you get a 'splitting' headache.

Look up what closing the distance means. BTW, I'm an F-18, bro.

1. Speeddemon is right. An axe in the hands of a small female is hardly a weapon. You get one swing. It has to be moving fairly fast to have much of an effect. Once it's moving that fast, you're committed to finishing the swing. Dodge the first (and only) swing, and move in quickly.

Anyway, I'm not weeding through 750 posts in this thread. Would one of you nimrods be kind enough to stop your idiotic arguing over plot holes for a moment, and suggest whether it's worth seeing this at the drive-in? (Along with TED) Or should I wait to rent it?
