I know that the dvd has some deleted scene's but nothing like the directors cut of aliens. I wish I hadn't gotten the dvd version of this. The deleted scenes were pretty blah.

Ugh, it was visually appealing for that type of movie, but the story was weak. Not worth your time unless it shows up on Netflix.

I keep hearing this. I thought most of the sets were quite bleak and unimaginative. There were really only a few scenes I thought were pretty for pretty's sake, and for the most part they were ruined by the rest of the movie. I didn't see anything new, groundbreaking, or even really all that impressive as far as special effects. CGI has impressed me in exactly 4 movies, and half of those were Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, so it was new at the time. CGI normally makes me ill. In fact the entire way they shoot many big budget movies these days is stupid.

I tend to rate movies based on how much I enjoy them the second time around. A movie with a good plot and an interesting story is fun to watch the second time too.

I saw Prometheus in the theater the first time. There was some eye-candy, but there were a few "WTF" moments.

The second time around, I pay more attention to detail, backdrops and plot.

Frankly, I couldn't sit through it a second time (at home on DVD). The first part with the alien drinking the fluid is forced - especially since it's a plot device to justify what happens in the rest of the movie.

We didn't need that justification in any of the others. The aliens just WERE. They were bad-ass, they were nasty, and we didn't need to know we shared DNA with them.

Likewise, the guys sitting around in the chairs having signed on for a long hypersleep trip without knowing the mission? Reminded me WAY too much of the first alien vs. predator, even right down to having the maker of Bishop show up.

I could keep going. Frankly, now that I can sit back and judge it without the 'oooh shiny' aspect, the movie was flat out bad.

This is pretty roundish, and I didn't include leap years, but they went just under 15 times the speed of light on average, with a peak speed of something much higher to account for acceleration and deceleration.

So my understanding of this is, when you hit C, time nearly stops for you relative to everything else. You wouldn't travel backwards in time though, in fact quite the opposite, you would travel to the future much faster than everything else.

So how do you hit a group of stars (a relatively tiny area), 35 light years away, which you can not know the precise motion of, and which will be millions (thousands, billions??) of years removed from where you saw it when you left?

Can some math geek please come explain this?

Also, why do they call 35 light years "so far away", when that is pretty much in our back yard in the grand scheme of things?

Well according the the current theory, it's not possible for anything to travel faster than light, so if the Prometheus travelled 15 times the speed of light, obviously the current theory is wrong . The future positions of stars can be calculated but their current trajectory and how it's effected by the forces of gravity of other stars near their path. Presumably they can do it a lot more accurately in 2093 than they can today.

Watched the Blu-Ray version and the deleted scenes last night. The second time around I felt the movie was actually better. There are struggles going on with nearly every character. But I found David to be the most interesting of the group. Somehow Weyland was able to give him genuine curiousity and I would venture to say emotion. He has a real contempt for humanity. And I think this plot line is a metaphor for our relationship with the Engineers 2000+ years ago.

The deleted scenes could had helped with the general audience a bit more. The alternate ending was much more interesting than the theatrical version. The Engineer appeared to question why Weyland would want to live forever. And when he came into the crashed life boat at the end he seemed genuinely fascinated by our technology. When he grabs at the screen showing flowing waves of grass. I got the impression he was thinking of home. And it seemed like he wasnt overtly aggressive towards her, just more curious, until she hit him with the axe. The alternate beginning also would had helped to firm up the beginnings of life on the planet they seed. It looked more like a group of clergy men with one sacraficing himself to create life.

The alternate scene with Vickers and Weyland would also have added something to the movie. It showed the real contempt Vickers had for Weyland. And it showed Weyland as a pathetic dying old man holding onto his former glory.

The ending scene with Weyland confirms my feeling Weyland wasnt just seeking the fountain of youth. But validation from his gods that he is a god himself and on equal footing.
And I think that is why the engineer killed him.

And the deleted scene with the captain and vickers. Where he described a bio facitilty working on horrible things. And they nuked it, killing 1100 souls because somebody spilled something. It could be what happened at this site. Though it doesnt explain why one survived.

I am looking forward to the sequel to see what it explains and what questions it opens up.

the deleted scenes also show a bit more unbelievably bad dialog. the one where one of the scientists throws a fit over his disappointment in the engineers.... the scientists just act like morons in this movie and thats a fundamental problem.

we have the mars rover today looking for past life on mars, and yet the scientists in prometheus are rather blase about finding life on another planet, advanced life, super advanced life even...it just makes no sense at all.

Glad I didn't buy this on Blu-ray. Just watched this on my Xbox with some points I had left over and was disappointed. Glad I listened to people about the mixed reviews on this. I loved Alien and Aliens but this is definitely not a worthy to be in the same galaxy let alone same universe.

Yeah but they're not supposed to have a robot on board. In ALien the robot was secret, in Aliens Berk said, "now a days they always have a robot on board".

Prometheus is a prequel to both.

Now that this movie is out on cable I have watched it a bunch more times.

And it still sucks. As hard as i try to like it 90% of the stuff that happens is so stupid. And now a prometheus 2 is in the works.

As a movie it is extremely mediocre.

Any feelings of actual cinematic value you feel while watching Prometheus come from your own projections, not from what's actually there on the screen.

And I guess there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't make it out to be more than it actually is: A big-budget C grade sci-fi flick.

This is a good thing. It allows the audience to personalize what's going on at the time, emotionally, even if they don't make logical sense of it afterwards.

I'm just upset about the suspension of disbelief destroying inability to run sideways.
