Rig help

So I had to upgrade my video for a class I'm taking, which required I get a new power supply. When I installed it, my motherboard decided it wanted to take a crap on me. So I'm pretty much building a whole new computer now.

So far I have bought

and a HD of no consequence.

I already own a soundcard, so I don't care about built-in audio on a motherboard.

So now I have left to get a new motherboard because it crapped out on me, which requires a new processor and RAM. I don't have much of a budget requirement, but I'm not going to spend $1k on a processor just because it's the best right now. I just want reasonable stuff. The only demanding thing this system is going to be used for is gaming.

I was figuring on an i7 920, but I have no idea as far as motherboards or RAM. I won't be overclocking at all, so I don't need some super duper motherboard.

Uh...I live in the US, but I'll most likely be purchasing everything online because there are no computer stores in York, PA besides Best Buy. (Can you even call that a computer store?)

I have a 19in monitor, so I'd like to game in 1280x1024. I need to get this built ASAP so I can work on my projects at home!

What class (and/or major) that required u to upgrade ur video card? Are you going to be using drives (hdd, dvdrw, etc) from your old build? Are you dead set on a i7-series chip?

I'm in computer science and I'm taking an advanced graphics programming class in which we are using DirectX10, and my current video card only supports up to 9. Yes, I am reusing stuff. I only need advice for the processor, motherboard, and RAM. And I was kind of set on the i7 because my professor (who's literally a genius) is in love with them.
