Are Right Angle Display Port cables a real thing? ....meaning, is it a thing that should exist?

I have an issue trying to Vesa mount some LG displays on a large triple monitor stand that doesn't leave enough room for LG's brilliant and apparent permanent decision to place their ports directly next to the mounts, perpendicularly, which is a known problem.

I've seen right angle Display Port being sold, but I'm wondering if this is a good idea or should be avoided--does the bend compromise the wires in any way?

I learned some time ago that just because it's sold, doesn't mean it should exist: Yes, a friend decided to buy a Firewire-to-USB cable that he somehow managed to find on one of those crap Amazon stores. I warned up, but watching his laptop melt when the obvious happened was somewhat entertaining.

Of course I could get offsets and that's what I will likely do, but I'd prefer the displays hang tight to the mount as they are.

The only problem you are going to encounter would be signal issues.

I have had good luck with hdmi right angles in the past. What is the worst that could happen?

well, I know it's not the same thing (essentially illegal/unethical power-delivery violations) with the firewire-usb cable that I mentioned and actual fires that it will, always start....I just didn't know how the connectors work inside the interface casing.

you know, if there's some engineering stuff that goes on there that actually makes the angled connectors problematic. I don't know enough about how they're made, I guess. To wit: I did search Monoprice, Bluejeans...you know boutique engineer joints that know their stuff, and they don't make such a thing. (You assume it's a product that makes "sense," right, to fulfill a common need? --the Firewire-USB, the Suicide Cord, lol, or the angled display port to clear mounting tolerances....but then there is also a reason that no reputable places make these things for actual reasons, but they also exist anyway because some truly horrible make them and simply don't care that they do this, lol....that sort of question)

I only fed Reddit questions asking the same thing, but just responding with some --no name JaamO00zy_tech_Best_Luck" prodcut that they bought off of "Amazon," and say "It Works!" ...2 years ago.

It's why I wonder if this is a real product, you know what I mean? It very well could be--they also make adaptors for this, so I'm thinking the interface in a slip-on adaptor isn't going to suffer unknown internal-bendy-cable issues, right?

I guess it's really an engineering question, this thread, and also should I spend $15-30 testing this question, and with expensive displays on the line?

technically you could buy the 90 deg adapter and just rewire it yourself to not connect the 3.3v power wires, so there would be no risk of damage to the monitors.

it is surprisingly hard to find pics or video of a dp cable teardown.

linustech has a video on dp cables. surprisingly, newer retail products pass all signaling and continuity testing.

I've been tempted to buy a right-angled DisplayPort cable a few times due to monitors not providing enough room in the "cable cut-out" for the wiring and cable head. My older ASUS 27" monitor actually had its DisplayPort port die. Now, I didn't do a deep dive to figure out what caused its demise, but my guess was all the stress over the years damaged the port. On that monitor, it just doesn't have enough space between where the port is and where the monitor's body juts out again, which meant that the DisplayPort cable came into contact with the body of the monitor at all times. In the end, I had to replace the controller board in the monitor, and I switched to using an old Rosewill active HDMI cable, which was significantly smaller and had no problem with the simple 2560x1440 @ 60Hz.

The Alienware AW3423DW that I've been working with feels like it has somewhat of the same problem. There just isn't a lot of room for inserting the cable; however, it does appear to clear just enough once the cable is inserted. Although, after my issues with the ASUS, it does leave me somewhat nervous as to whether it could cause damage. I did recently try looking up DisplayPort cables that have a right-angled end (i.e., NOT an adapter), and they do exist; however, most of them are from unknown brands. I did find that SSUPD sells one, which is meant to work with their Meshilicious case. (The case has the video card facing downward, which can make cable insertion difficult.) Although, the reviews for it are littered with complaints about the cable not working.
