Was referring more to the Nashville situation in which he began preselling tickets for a non-existent team and other shady dealings.

How's that shady? It's a great way to show the NHL that they are in the wrong market. When you can pre-sell more tickets for a team that doesn't yet exist than you can sell for a team that does, you're doing something wrong.

Rim is behind in the consumer market, but they've never really been aimed at that market. They're still the absolute best email/communication/minor productivity device in a corporate setting.

I think their big failure was going half-assed at the consumer market, rushing in with the Storm (which was awful), then under-spec'ing the Storm 2 (which wasn't 'awful', but can't run OS6, so is completely obsolete).

That has cost them a lot of gravy money from the consumer side, and a lot of those folks (like the ones who bought the storm) will never be back. If they had waited six months after Storm, and just launched with Storm 2 (with more memory), they would have lost a lot less marketshare.

I've got a curve ATM, and OS6 fixed most of the things wrong with it. It looks like there's a non-slider, physical keyboard model with a vga touch screen coming shortly. That would give touch-resizing, and swiping for tabs, threads, etc. To me, that would be the perfect device.

I'm dirty all day at work, and touch-screen typing isn't going to cut it; a keyboard I can wrap up and still use.

Interesting that Rim is talking about pushing BBM out to other platforms; it kind of fits their real business model (selling service, not devices). Just about anyone who has used it would tack a buck or two onto their monthly bill to have that instead of SMS. It's ridiculously better.

They also phased out a lot of their low cost models. I know a few "casual" users who had BBs because of some low cost options that the others didn't offer at the time. The old Pearls and Curves seemed to be everywhere a few years back because they had a lot of free after rebate deals.

We'll have to wait and see what QNX brings to the table. I'm 100% biased because I've only ever owned blackberry's (Pearl, Tour, Torch, Playbook on order). I do own an iPod Touch, and while it's neat for a bit, it really doesn't offer me anything better than a Blackberry.

I'd like to reserve my comments until I have the Playbook in my hands, but I can't. From what I've seen in the early release demos, it's crazy responsive, small enough to be convenient, and large enough to be useful. The iPad seems to big, and doesn't offer anything new over the old iPhone or iTouch's (I'm probably wrong so correct me).

No one is actively competing against RIM for the business market. That might change, but I don't really see it happening any time soon. RIM got lazy assuming they'd always have the market, but I think now they realize what kind of work they have to put into it.

They've made leaps in their tech in the last few years, and I can easily see them being a huge competitor in the market. I'd really like to see the best everyone can bring to the table. I love competition like everyone else because it encourages innovation.

LOL. Do you even read the shit you post?

From your link:

One analyst at CS doesn't trump their focus list.

I've seen the math, even if the PlayBook sells at the volumes RIM is claiming (dubious at best BTW), it'll have little effect on RIM's stock value. It's a low profit margin device selling at numbers that pale in comparison to the phone sales that drive RIM's profits.

It's also key to becoming cool again, and it's their third whack at it so it had better work!

(Storm - fail)
(Torch - okay but no impact)
(playbook - last chance?)

If you really are an investor, rather than a weak troll, you had better get in @$54 to make ~60% profit @$85. But I know what this is. You sir, are busted. :whiste:

If RIM goes to 85 this quarter, I'll buy you a $499 PlayBook.

If they don't you can buy me a $499 iPad.

Of course, you won't take the bet. I've made the offer before over RIM's performance and you always fold.

How about it DBZ? A friendly wager?

(I can already see the response, "I'll already have my vastly superior PlayBook by then, so why would I want to bet with you?", so we can just wager $ if you'd like)

Is the period of that $85 price target 3 months?

Let's make it real...

Unenforcable bets with strangers on the internet....that's REAL, dawg! Way real. So much more real than actually purchasing the stock in question. You so real, you don't even know how real you are!
