This is more dead on than you realize. The problem is all of the tech geeks that expect phone makers to be everything to everybody. Apple currently doesn't give two shits about being in the corporate world. Why would they and then have to spend ungodly amounts of $$$ on support. Blackberry doesn't wanna make toys like Apple does. MS and Android have yet to pick a segment and they'll filter off and mature eventually.

Need flash? Don't get Apple
Want a huge library of Apps? Don't get RIM
Want a phone that's also a great .mp3 player? iPhones rock and BB sucks
Do you like plugging your phone in every four hours? Get an Android

Every company has its niche. Ask Nokia how well trying to be everything to everyone has worked out.
My android phone is showing right now that it has been unplugged for 31 hours and 6 minutes. I still have 63% battery remaining.
My uptime (time without having to power off or restart) is 933 hours and 28 minutes.
just sayin....

Egh...this is very off topic, but come on, that's extremely rare. I've owned several Android phones over the years and they were about 50/50 on if they could make it from wake up to bedtime without a charge.

The playbook will draw in people who have never imagined being a rimm product owner with their fresh experience, then wheel them in with their new qnx phones. I am an iPhone user but am really excited about the playbook.

As for it's stock price I feel confident with my may $57.50 calls.

You said it was going to $85.

Again you've missed the point. DBZ never claimed to know the date - just that the link (YOUR link, by the way...you seem to have forgotten that one already) mentioned a $85 price target. You decided to pull some date out of your ass of when that $85 was supposed to be, and that DBZ should bet on it. DBZ is pointing out the absurdity of your post - the analyst he was referring to didn't say it would be $85 in June, did he? If not, even if he wanted to bet with you, why would he agree to that date, if the date is whether or not the stock will hit the analyst's expectations?

Think harder next time, sport.

My three coworkers (HTC Incredible, 2x Samsung Galaxy S) say that if it lasts 24hrs without charging it's a miracle.

Just saying....

I'm flexible, what time frame do you think is fair?

You're a hater, if I don't use my Android phone at all I can get 2 days of battery life out of it, maybe 2.5

And you're a gutless little piece of shite...

All mouth, but then again, the PM's I got over you here and there show we all know that, you slimy little two faced fuckwad.

"Why do you even bother? We all know he's like that"

"Yeah, the RIMtard strikes again."

"I know, it's like Research in Stupid"

"What did you expect?"

"I'm sorry, I told him it was going to stay in GG&P, he just kept complaining." That's a mod pm & quote BTW...

You and your mouth seem to be pretty well known quantities, dude...

At least here, the mods won't protect your lying, two faced sorry ass...

"Blar, blar, I was just agreeing with that analyst, I really don't have any balls....."

How's life for you DBW? You pull this kind of shite at work too? You must be pretty well liked...

You bitch to the mods over there, I start a new thread to make you happy, you bitch again, mods move the thread to OT, and you troll the thread that was started and moved because of your whining, then when I offer you a bet to put your money where your rather large and frequently used mouth is, you cave like a little girl. Your reputation isn't worth $500?

I think this puts this thread into context. :whiste:

Dude, there's a BlackBerry success story in that article on page two...

"We have a very large amount of data that's very sensitive to our customers," said David Davies, CIO at Flight Options, a private jet transportation company.
Even so, Davies said his company issued Blackberries to all of its employees in 2001 and 2002. The result was immediate, the company saved $8,000 in the first month in long distance phone bills.
Prior to using smartphones, Flight Options pilots and crew had to file details about how much aircraft maintenance, fuel consumption, miles flown per day, and any schedule deviations due to late passengers via fax to dispatchers. With the mobile phones, that information is sent cheaply and instantly.
Along with the mobile phones, Davies deployed a mobile device manager server to track the applications used on mobile devices, to inventory phones and wipe their data if they're lost.
Davies is currently rolling out iPads to his employees. The hope is that pilots and crewmembers will figure out ways to use them for myriad applications, such as downloading weather charts and passenger information.
"We'll have 20 iPads out there in the next six months and I need a way to manage them," he said.
From 10 years ago, and they're rolling out iOS devices now.

The reason they're rolling out iPads is that the FAA is approving them to replace paper charts in addition to the reasons the CIO mentioned:

Honestly though, I don't want this thread to devolve into an OS war, it's more of a chronicle of how an iconic company is losing mindshare/marketshare through poor management decisions.

Nice try

Yeah, nearly all smartphones get a full day out of the battery with normal email/phone/web usage. Not sure where he got the 4 hour thing. My Droid will get a day a half with the GPS and wifi turned on. Blackberry's are normally no different. Their saving grace that may give them a bit more life is their tiny screens and usual lack of GPS.

We specialize in smartphone integration at my work and RIM is going out the door, Android phones are coming in due to the popularity of Google Apps for Business as a platform.

What the hell is with this line from the AnandTech review of the PlayBook?

With no email or calendar apps, the PlayBook doesn't have a whole lot to notify you of.

That's badly or straight up mis-stated, right? They can't possibly be launching this product without those two applications built in.

Anand's final words:

Makes sense.

It looks like the playbook is doing a lot of things right, but needs some more work software wise. Once that gets ironed out, it looks like a real contender.

I wonder if RIM is working on some sort of next-gen bluetooth for device pairing to make the bridge work more seamlessly. It seems like that would be a huge help.

Personally, I'm waiting for a device more like the iPad2, but with a retina display. I'm not a huge fan of the narrow format for tablets. Widescreen works for monitors and tvs, but I think a tablet works better closer to 4:3.

I played with a Xoom for the first time a few days ago and there were things about it I liked better than the iPad2, which proves to me that there is room for improvement for all the companies still. I think Apple has the hardware pretty much down, but some of the software was better on the Xoom (tabs for browsers for one).

Wow. No email on a device made by RIM. Unbelievable.

Not saying it's not useful, but can someone tell me what these e-mail apps are and how they help?

I just use hotmail, gmail and yahoo by going to the website. I know I'm totally missing something, just don't know what. Never bothered to learn/inquire.

Ya, reviews look pretty meh. Using Xoom as an indicator, can't expect much sales-wise. Maybe slightly more because of brand loyalty and the commercial market. Then again, why not just get everyone a fully functional 10-12" Thinkpad or Macbook Air?
