Exactly what 95% of the people in this thread knew would happen. The remaining 5% were blinded by, well God knows what blinded them.

This was easy to see. Blackberry is a beautiful example that should be used in future business courses about what happens when a company rests on its laurels. It failed to innovate and in tech more than any other field that is absolute suicide. iPhone came along and redefined the market, then Android. Meanwhile Blackberry is still cranking out postage stamp screen phones. As I mentioned earlier in the thread my last Blackberry took 4.5 minutes to boot. I timed it. That is despicable.

If Apple isn't careful they won't be too far behind.

I like the new phone too. I'll be in London in a few weeks so I'll be sure to check it out. I won't get one for a little while though. Still pretty happy with my Z10.

No debt, tons of cash, right around breakeven, new products (even if a little dated). They're not going to rocket up the usage stats charts, but they have a decent little business going that is sustainable for a while.

There are a bunch of cool ideas that they could implement that would be new and useful, but Thorsten seems to be focusing on building a hardware business that will always be 6 months behind the other guys.

Rumours were flying around that Prem Watsa (Warren Buffett of Canada) was getting the pension funds to contribute cash to a private takeover of BB. That would be awesome.

...and then Google.

...and then <BB / Palm / MS / Atari> will rise from the ashes with the next super device.

Who knows, we might all be running Kodak devices in 10 years

Doesn't matter. The earnings call that will follow the release of this new Blackberry phone after it's been out a few months will take the wind out of the sails of Blackberry hopefuls. Will be just another dud in terms of sales.

Dude, I think she meant "new math". not that traditional stuff taught in schools.

PS: she also doesn't know the difference between price and value.
Hee hee, any other clever comments while blackberry burns to ashes, or are you still in denial? No need to answer that; we know the answer.

You should buy more stock today. With the job slashing they are now lean and mean and can take Apple and Android head-on!

RIMM will join the long list of companies that failed to have the vision to see where the market is headed.

Such as International Buggy Whip. IBW CEO said in 1898 "Those abominations you call horseless carriages will never replace a good horse and carriage"

(Quoted in the 1898 Horseless Age Magazine)

Who would sign up a Blackberry device on a 2 year contract when they essentially have put the company up for sale to the highest bidder? The company may not even be around in 6 months time.

People, surprisingly. Friend of mine JUST bought a Q10 two weeks ago. She hates it, but her old Bold was three years old and needed to be replaced. This was when news of failed sell offs, no buyers, RIMM clearly being dead was well known.

She said that the telecom co. will stand behind the phone even if RIMM doesn't. Guess she's right, but no apps, dead tech...

Then she deserves it.

The sad part is it's not like this all changed overnight. Blackberry had the full screen storm five years ago. It just couldn't catch up and could no longer lead.

They were too slow to fix their OS. If they had ironed out all the bugs on BB OS 5 on the Storm, it actually could have been a good phone. The UI and phone build itself wasn't bad for the time, and even the clicky touchscreen (though a little gimmicky) wasn't bad.

She doesn't think she's in any sort of bad situation or that the company failing will affect her in any way.

Something about touch screens, even modern capacitive (?), not working well with her, so needs the keyboard.

I'd seriously consider a BlackBerry phone with a physical keyboard that ran Android...

I've had an iPhone 4, a bold 9900 and now a Z10. The clicky touch screen on the storm was barf in phone form.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I liked SurePress. I wish there was a company out there improving it because I felt it was better than screen vibration/haptic feedback.
