Yeah that was just bullshit information to give a quick bump to BB.

The fact of the matter is, the DOD cut the majority of funding that went towards testing BB10 and its devices back last spring. They look to be replacing their existing devices with mainly ios and android devices.

Once again crappy reporting job done by the media.

BBRY expected to be profitable in 2015. Can't wait to watch your short shortsightedness make you loose all credibility.
Hah, that's rich.

Do you know the only place--I mean ONLY place--I ever see a black berry anymore? On TV shows filmed a few years ago. That's it. They don't exist in modern society. Nobody has one, nobody has ever seen one. I bet most people on this thread don't even know a person with a blackberry anymore.

Uh ohs... Makes more sense.

I have one friend with a Blackberry Q10 -- she has two if you count the company issued one. She hates it. Her touch of death doesn't play nice with touch screens, so she "needs" the keyboard. Another die-hard BB friend got rid of hers a while ago.

No mention of the mass sell-off of property?

Why do you all want RIM to die? I agree their products are lackluster right now (and have been for a long time), but I want them to survive and continue to provide competition in the marketplace.

I haven't used a Blackberry in several years. Jumped ship to Android. I wish WebOS and BBOS were still alive, then we'd have 4 OSes to choose from. Now we only have two.

I've been watching [Br]eaking [Ba]d recently and I'm into season 3 now. I'm shocked that there are almost no smartphones on the show. I think Saul (the lawyer guy) has a touch-screen Blackberry, but that's the only one I think I've seen. Even DEA agents don't have mobile email. Young people and old...EVERYONE is walking around with flip phones.

It really stands out.

My friend had her Blackberry yesterday, but that's only until she gets her damaged iPhone 5s replaced.

Well, personally I prefer WP8 (which you did forget) so while it's not doing amazing, at least it has a chance with it now being the number 3 mobile OS. At number 4 it really had no chance but it's market share is increasing slightly. It's also putting out some nice phones now. That 41 MP camera on the Nokia 1020 really is amazing and is the best smartphone camera.

The other reason is just to rub reality in the face of the RIM diehards. I know Windows Phone will probably never outsell the iPhone let alone Android, but I'm ok with that. I just would like it to hit about 15% so that it becomes a platform that developers know they should include when making apps.

Why in the world would anyone wish ill-will towards RIM diehards who thumb their nose at people from their throne? You non-BB users, you know you're all losers who use toy iPhones and Galaxies. 'Tis only BB users who are grownups with their "real" phones.

Seriously, find any BB/RIM article and you'll see a ton of those in the comments.

Gawd. So this is what it has come to. Rumors of a paltry order of devices are enough to bump the stock.
I don't think people want them to die. I think they just have fun watching them die.
That's mainly it. I am easily slighted also, frankly, and until 18 months ago I still had a company issued Blackberry. It was so far behind the competition, so frustrating to use, I feel like an entire company needs to go bankrupt just to atone for it.

It's really weird. 8 years from now we'll watch shows filmed in 2013 and they'll look ancient because the optical implant technology that becomes ubiquitous in 2017 won't be there

kinda like watching action movies from the 80s. People can't talk to each other instantly, how weird is that?
Or those from the 90s, when I see the computers I realize how old they are, otherwise the temporal localization depends completely on the cars and clothes.

Anyway in movies you can't let the protagonists use whatsapp because it's boring to watch actors texting so they'll just do what they always did: 10 seconds conversations. But they will do this with smartphones.
Not much of a difference so it probably wasn't worth upgrading the props in breaking bad.

Nokia sales went down last quarter. MS buying them is probably the reason. It has further damaged the value of the brand. http://www.forbes.com/sites/terokui...uch-brand-damage-is-microsoft-doing-to-nokia/

I think a lot of the success of the first three quarters was due to the $70 Nokia 520/521 and pretty strong marketing of phones like the 1020 (even if the 1020 itself has not sold well). I've barely seen any marketing in the past couple months from Nokia which is pretty understandable. Also, the Nokia 929 (quad core, 5", 20 MP camera) for Verizon was supposed to come out around Thanksgiving but still hasn't been released and the reason is rumored to be there are waiting for the deal to close so that Microsoft can take over marketing the phone.

It's still too early to say Microsoft has damaged the brand. Remember, Nokia sold only 4.4 million phones in Q4 2012 right when WP8 launched and 13.3 million for all of 2012. They still sold 30 million in 2013, 8.8 million in Q3 and 8.2 million in Q4. They were trending up and making good growth so hopefully it was just a bad time for Microsoft to buy Nokia.

Smart phones are /just/ getting into the outdoorsy stuff(maybe even cops) market around here. A lot of the people in Breaking Bad had good reasons to not use a good phone. Buy a cheap burner with cash, and ditch it fast.

I've got my hands on all the current OS's and actually like the way Blackberry 10 works. I do feel if this OS came out a lot sooner it would have a better view amongst consumers. Its not perfect but none of the smartphone OS's are.

I played with my sisters iPhone 5s next to my 4 and wasn't impressed with it considering how new it was. After the new iOS 7 update I wanted to shoot my phone which seemed to be a piece of shit at this point. I gave the new BB a change ( Z10 which came out early 2013) and actually decided to stick with it. Four months later and no regrets.

If BB were to fold my phone will still work and even if there weren't new updates in its current state I'm comfortable with it. My wife even wanted to jump ship and go with a BB and hasn't complained a bit.

I don't work for BB or own any stocks and haven't owned one in almost ten years.

Given the sheer amount of astro turfing on all the tech forums/sites I think it's safe to say that Microsoft have a bit of input into the marketing.

Not sure what that has to do with the Nokia 929 since real marketing takes a lot of money and Nokia basically stopped once Microsoft bought them. I'm sure Microsoft kicked in some money before but there were a ton of Nokia ads over the summer that basically disappeared in the late fall.

In terms of Microsoft's deal with Machinima, I basically consider any game-based Youtuber to be advertising whatever it is they're playing since I doubt any of them have any real ethical standard.

I never understood integrated car computers. They all are outdated as soon as they are released. Wouldn't it make more sense to create a way for me to "plug in" my phone?

How will they mark it up 50 times then?
