My comments are based on research that I did a few months ago. I basically read about people trying to get miracast working. I don't remember the details but I do remember that the people trying to find a good HDMI dongle had a lot of trouble finding a good one. That and they are about $100 each.

Miracast is an open standard. The Wi-Fi alliance certifies devices. There may be costs associated with certification. I don't know the details.

Chromecast has an SDK. Wonderful. So does Apple, Android, BB10, Microsoft ... I can go on. If your app already works on any of these devices, there is no reason to have to write another app on Chromecast ... Just use the device that would be the "remote" anyways and stream the video/sound to the screen.

I just started looking but they have some in the $40-60 range now, the Netgear Push2TV (small box, not dongle) seems to have some pretty good reviews...not sure if I'd use it enough to warrant having it but I'm considering giving it a try

I wouldn't bother with a Roku these days. I'd just get Netflix on my Z30 (if I had one). But my wife has her Z30.... Actually, I'd prefer it since I should be able to get Comcast Infinity working on the Z30. Maybe I'll try that out tonight.

After less than a week I have to say I'm impressed and damn happy with my phone, but there are some less than stellar points...used Waze for my drive today and found the gps to lose connection about 5 times in 400 miles. now this was through bfe Texas but still...gps should hold. worst was almost 5 minutes, the other times less than 1, it still sucked.

Perfect way to help your horrible sells, dump a carrier so consumers have less options to choose your product. Makes total sense!!!

I sell widgets at the 10 stores that everyone goes to when they want to buy a widget. The customers at stores 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are purchasing a lot of my widgets. The customers at stores 9 and 10 aren't buying my widgets...they're buying from my competitors. Instead of investing resources in keeping my products at stores 9 and 10, where I'm probably loosing money, I'm going to remove my product from those stores and focus on the other 8 stores where I make money.

I haven't read the articles, so I certainly don't know the whole story with BB and Sprint, but I'm guessing it's something like that.

T-mobile probably wasn't willing to give them some sort of sweatheart deal anymore since they're non-existent now and faced with that they withdrew their products. Maybe it has to do with T-Mobile not offering subsidized phones?

That's probably all semantics. Could be any reason. In the end, Blackberry has one less method of distribution.

Point is, we don't know what the discussions were.

Stocking and shelf space is not much of an issue. The bigger issue is that you need to test the phones before selling them which costs money. The carrier testing is an up front cost. You also have to support the phones via customer support which costs more money. Customer support costs money up front for training and additional costs for each question asked.

If BlackBerry fails, there will be ZERO quality phones with a good keyboard.

There will also be ZERO phones made outside of China. I just got a BlackBerry Q10 and it was made in Mexico. That's right, my phone was NOT made by child laborers.

I think Blackberry is afraid to make things in China because they will inject backdoors or "special" chips. To late now that the Z3 is out ... made in China.

FWIW: I am mostly saddened by people that don't even want to pick one up to investigate it and still tell everyone that it is garbage. It will take a lot for me to ever go back to Android(where lovers seem to love specs) and I'll never consider iOS(where lovers seem to like hip brands). I'll stick with what best suits my actual needs. Having used Android for 2 years and BB10 for 1 year, you can tell how 1st gen iOS and Android are. I'm one of the few with a true second generation smart phone.

The direction is nice. BBRY is really interested in Enterprise so people here can laugh all they want. People here (consumers) are not Blackberry's audience. If consumer's embrace BB10 eventually, great. Otherwise I don't really care.

Oh please, there are much better phones made in better places. Mexico? Really, you know there are slaves making them too.

And keyboards? Who uses them anymore? A good phone can listen to you talk, far better and safer than a crappy keyboard.

Who wants a physical keyboard these days? The Blackberry is DEAD! BES is DEAD! Nobody wants that crap from 2005 any more. Back then, sure it was the BOMB but (RIM) just sat on their laurels, laughing at Apple and Google's "gimmicks" while falling down hard. Fuck them! They deserve exactly what they get.

They come out with a phone with a screen that moves when pressed (Storm) and think that's going to kill the iphone? Hahaha!

Always good to see a bump on my favorite thread.

I'm a Blackberry Z10 owner and love it. No way would I trade it for Android or <shudder the thought> iOS.

Never could get used to Swype. I eventually had to choose between more screen real estate and a good physical keyboard. Real Estate won out. If I ever had the need to use my BB for business, though, I'd be grabbing a Q10. I can't imagine pushing out a 2 paragraph e-mail with Swype or even pounding it out on the Z10s awesome keyboard.

However, no matter how good the phones and the OS are, Blackberry got lazy and they are getting what they deserved. I just feel bad for the people that put everything together in its current form. They have got to be like "We have great devices and a great OS!!! WTF!!!??? Why does everyone still hate us?"

I find it humorous that they tried to rebrand from RIM ---> Blackberry. Isn't that kind of the wrong way to rebrand? It was Blackberry that had the negative connotation, not RIM. If Blackberry marketers had any common sense, I'd be packing a RIM Z10..... maybe.
