This is selling for about the same price, if not higher, on ebay, plus higher shipping costs. And at Amazon it's $71 with free shipping. Not sure if it's available in-store.

Fixed Link - thanks

Ill go ahead and give this a thumbs up based on my experience with my Rio Cali, which is basically the next gen version of this player.

Only negative I can think of is that the tuner sucks, and I heard that in the S30S its even worse

Costco just started selling the S35S for $90. Comes w/ 128mb and an armband. Got a great review on Cnet as well.

EDIT: ZDnet review

I might jump on this. I've been using a CD/MP3 player at the gym and it's just too big. I'll just need to wait for a good deal on an SD card.

Here is another nice one - Frontier Nex IIe with these Sony MDR-Q55SL

Does the NexIIe come with any memory? Maybe I misread, but it looks like it has no internal memory, and doesn't come with a memory card.... Sounds like a neat little player/portable drive.

From what I can tell, no memory is included. The reviews on the player look ok, with the exception of the battery pack and flimsy/cheap construction. It is capable of being USB powered and can support up to a 512MB CF card. Too bad it doesn't come with an arm band; it only has a belt clip.

Maybe, but I'm mainly interested in the fact that it's expandable. What would you suggest as an alternative?

I haven't seen many other decent quality mp3 players out there with 64mb of built-in memory, that are also expandable, for less than this one. What ones do you recommend in this price range?

Ok, I went for the Rio. I went by my local Walmart and they had ONE left on the shelf (I'm not sure if it was clearance or not). It had been previously opened, so I was a little leary buying it. Nevertheless, the my desire overcame any inhibitions and I go it.

As the review state, the radio tuner sucks. The sound quality is very good and the headphones, in my opinion, are fine on their own. Why spend a lot of money on another set of headphones when all you're gonna do is sweat all over them! The plastic carrying case is a little too small to hold the player, but at least it's snug. The player construction is solid and I like the the rubber coating around it. The thing is LIGHT, too. One neat feature on it is the stopwatch - I'll definitely use that since I hate wearing a watch when working out.

I'm happy with it and I think I'll keep it. I only wish I could download songs to it without using the software...but no biggie.

I wonder if they've changed the way you d/l music to their players, because with my Rio 600 I just use Windows Media Player 9 and it works fine....

Thanks Kev for the OP and the WMP idea. You're right - you can use WMP to download songs to the player. It's so much better than their music manager.

I just bought this for my GF for her bday...setting it up now.

I did quite a bit of research and for the money there really isn't anything comparable. I was gonna go iRiver but you have to order a armband separately from their site...don't feel like being nickel and dimed to death with this thing, she just wants to use it to work out with.

I have an iPod 10GB, but that thing is a beast to work out with (I mainly use it in my car and at work), I'm tempted to pick one of these up now for myself.

I bought this on Amazon.com last week when it was in my gold box...got it for $64 shipped or something. Pretty happy!

FYI: Checked my local Walmart this morning (St. Louis, MO) and they had several in stock. $57 is the regular price (not on sale or clearance) and the hang tag said it was a New product. As such, maybe it will go on sale and/or drop in price...

Nice - the Nex takes CF cards. That makes for a much better deal since my camera uses CF and I didn't feel like investing in SD.
Yeah, I hate paying for built in memory when I already own a few CF cards. I just wish the Nex had an FM tuner. Are there any others comparable to it that do?

Picked mine up at local store, they had 3 or 4 still on the shelf. Great price, and works great! Thanks for the tip! (BTW.. Best price for this item on pricewatch.com = $78)

I don't have the player myself yet, but I heard that there's an updated firmware that improves FM reception.
