Wait... i was reading that their football program earns 60-70 million in net income... where does the rest of that money go? Investments or something?

The article mentions that Penn State is afforded one of the more unique situations in major Universities--a completely self-sustained Athletic department (profits out-weighing cost. I think only 8 others are even capable of this? and this is for the entire department, not simply one sports program).

I suppose. other tables--where you get the $70mill profit figure for PSU football--show bushels of schools making huge profits over single athletic programs. While there are piles of these big money programs across the country, only a handful of schools have completely independent Athletic departments b/c either one program is so monstrous, or at least a couple of them are so successful, that they can support themselves outside of the University.

makes you wonder...what is the point to have this kind of model attached to the University? what, exactly, are they bringing in and advertising regarding the University?

and, despite those seemingly massive profits for large programs, $70 mill--even if PSU saw that money--is a fart in the wind compared to the real money sources for these schools.

Paterno was fired. Now, students are rioting in the street in support of Paterno. So let me get this straight, this guy protected a child rapist and they think he is their hero? These young, drunk rioters have no sense or morality.

Those students are f'ing idiots. Every single one of em.

The guy facilitated the disgusting abuse of multiple children through inaction, when he had all the power in the world to stop it. He deserves prison time, not a pep rally.
