People hated Blockbuster because in one breath they hated actually being charged for returning a movie late and in the other getting pissed that the movie they want has been out for more than two days.

I'm still clinging onto my awesome online deal...$14.99 a month for 4 out at a time, including blu rays and games. I still get coupons for instore rentals but my local one closed earlier this year so that's useless. It used to be uber...4 out at a time, unlimited in store exchanges, plus coupons for game rentals. Le sigh.

Good luck getting them to ship you another movie. I have a 3 out at a time grandfathered deal for $19.99 a month, and I only have one store Blu out atm, and they have charged my account on the Nov. 4th and yet failed to send out 2 other DVDs as per my agreement with them. Now I know why.

Earlier today I sent them a crap out my mailed DVDs or get off the pot and refund my account email.

I smell another class action lawsuit in the making.

And I stopped using the useless 1 "free" movie rental per month coupon when they stopped letting the account holder keep the movie out as long as they wanted too, just like all the other movies on the same agreement. It went down to a week, then 3 days, then a day, all without properly notifying the account holders they were now suddenly being charged late fees on the "free" rental coupons they were offering. Typical BB shenanigans.

I'm still shocked that Radio Shack is still around. What's keeping them alive?

Dave

Their mobile phone sales.

BestBuy wanted to buy them up not long ago just to use RadioShacks existing store fronts to sell mobile phones.

Blu-ray looks and sounds better. And not everyone shares your taste either. Shitty to you is must have for someone else. Crazy right?

Exactly why I have continued to use their mailed online subscriptions.

They already have a huge inventory of movies between the online and store inventories, and even though some of them are scratched up or don't play properly, there is no reason they should stop their mailed online business other than DISH thinks all those recently dumped customers are going to get DISH service instead, and then subscribe to a premium service for movies or PAY PER VIEW their crappy compressed movies instead.

And BB actually made a profit last year, in spite of DISH trying to strangle away their business by closing even more stores and not ordering new popular releases for stores. My store has had to go to Wal-Mart to buy many new movies for nearly a year now, because DISH refused to send them to the stores to rent.

Warner Brothers needs to buy out Blockbuster from Dish since nearly 60% of new movies are released by them anyway. Warner Brothers could make a killing off sales and rentals using Blockbuster's name, and could provide DVDs and other merchandise to the stores at a fraction of the prices DISH was paying for them.

I got a BS canned response email from BB regarding charging my account again yet not shipping anything else by mail. And I now have no movies out ATM, too.

RIP Blockbuster is more like RIPOFF.

And their parent company DISH is the WORST in CUSTOMER SERVICE, BTW.

So this is hardly a surprise at all.

The last day of retail stores was the 9th. And they are reopening on the 14th for a liquidation/clearance sale.

They barely stay alive.

What is funny is they started building an excessive and expensive corporate headquarters/campus right before the recession. It opened in the midst of the recession and they had to quickly unload it.

A Junior College now owns it. Atleast Radio Shack gets to lease space in it for free. Its kind of karma for them getting the only affordable(but entirely ghetto section 8) housing in Fort Worth torn down. That said the city is much better of with that shit torn down.

I just watched the Halloween episode of South Park from last year, the one where Randy buys a Blockbuster.

No idea how they are still open, either. Some of these retail giants just seem to hang around. Going into K-Mart is an incredibly depressing experience.

I was just in one this past weekend, prices were higher than Target and the electronics section has been severely watered down.

I thought that was just what K-Mart sold; crushing depression, imported directly from Cleveland, OH.

I made up lyrics in the 80's to Eddie Grant's Electric Avenue that had the hook of "we're goin' rock down to KMART to buy some shoes, they only cost a dollah"
