We lost a part of our family this past Saturday. Cujo (yes his name was Cujo) was part of our family for nine years. He was only six weeks old when we adopted him:
He was acting differently, hiding under the bed (when he usually would be sitting with us in the living room), drinking alot of water and then peeing in other places instead of the litter box and later on he became lethargic.
The night of the the 1st, we brougt him to the vet. The vet did some tests and found that Cujo had diabetic ketoacidosis and that he wouldn't make it through the night. We stayed with him through the night to see if any of the medication and insulin the vet gave him would help. None if it worked and in the morning, we decided to have him put to sleep to end his suffering.
We didn't even know he was diabetic. He never showed any symptoms and didn't show any until the last day.
I miss him and this sure made for a pretty crummy birthday for me (on the 4th).
