If you are willing to spend that much money, just buy Titan Xp and mine coins for a month or two. You will make the difference back in a couple of month and have faster GPU. The high GPU price are hurting the little folks who can't afford the high end gear.

Are you not in US? You can buy Titan Xp directly from NVidia for $1140. I wouldn't pay inflated price myself either if I was in a market for a GPU. But Titan Xp on VNidia's webstore is still available at MSRP.

Yeah just ordered a bunch of parts off there for a rig. Recently discovered that site. Even regular computer parts are starting to go out of stock, so figured I'd at least have the parts here on hand. If I don't end up mining full tilt due to lack of GPUs then it will make a decent VM server. Still need to build my case in my garage in spring when the weather is better, though I might get lucky and get a nice day before. Like in a few days it's suppose to be only 0 degrees so can probably build it then.

No. It helps, but it isn't necessary. Hell if you look at the first few days that ZEC was listed on Poloniex, it'll show you some very interesting examples of how to set a baseline cost for a currency with extremely low volume in sales.

(someone paid a modest amount for a fragment of a ZEC on Poloniex, setting the per-ZEC cost to over $1k the first day it was listed. What resulted was mayhem since early miner software for ZEC was so damn primitive).

Damn I guess I could sell my 1080ti for a decent amount if I wanted to. I've decided though, that I'm only buying the next Ti model if I stay with Nvidia. The Ti models seems to last me the best in terms of gaming. Never thought about mining though. My friend has been trying to get me to buy into Bitcoin but ehhh. I kind of just want to play around with small amounts. Figure if my stocks go back up I can sell them and buy $100 in Bitcoin and just watch what happens to it for fun.

So I was just able to put in a 1060 order at Nvidia for 3wks out... the 1070 & 1080 ti were up but both are gone now. Looks like you can still get 1060.

Crazy because it's not really any better than my 970, but my wife needs an upgrade and this 1060 has 2 display port outputs which I now need. Considered finding a used 970 but would rather have new hardware.

My local Microcenter just got a fresh batch of video cards. They even have RX 570/80 in stock, but you can't even reserve them online. You have to go to the store.

Fortunately I picked up a 1070ti directly from nvidia a few weeks ago before the crap hit the fan. I'm using it in one of my systems (just for gaming), but I listed it online for $950, and if someone is stupid enough to pay that, I'm going to grab a Titan Xp for my rig.

Its just sad that PC gaming has been picking up so much speed in the last few years, but nobody can buy a card to game with. Building a new PC is almost pointless, unless you want to run off the iGPU or some old used card.

AIBs are ramping production. Cards are trickling in right now. Feb is looking better for stock, but I doubt it will satisfy demand. Also, people need to remove the notion that GPU still stands for graphics processing unit. They are very much general processing units an have been for years. The chip makers don't make the cards so the AIBs are responsible for product segmentation. They just haven't made the mining cards even though they've shown planned product last summer.

That is not exactly right. Chip makers definitely create a lot of the product segmentation. Just look at what NVidia is doing with their EULA that does not allow consumer-grade GPUs in deep learning data centers. That is the chip maker intentionally creating product separation.

It may be too late now, if/when the bubble bursts again, Nvidia will feel the brunt of what AMD went through when the used card market was flooded with 290's for super cheap. Made AMD's mid-range poor sellers for awhile as they had to compete with the glut of used previously high end cards. If crypto stays high, then they'll continue to sell every card they make.
