I don't know of any discounts.

I went through the aisle to mourn and pay my respects.

The damage these miners have inflicted will not be forgotten. The day of the inevitable crytocurrency crash will be a day of glorious celebration!

Their website has the GPU at inflated prices with a note that says 'See store for BYO Discount available for this Video Card'

It's really not hard to get a 1080 Ti close to retail, you just need to know when and where to look...

I bought an EVGA 1080 Ti SC Black for $770 on Thursday. Then Friday, I saw the EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 in stock, so I bought that for $820. Both were bought from EVGA directly. If they have stock, it is usually added around 8pm. On Thursday, they had a bunch of different cards up and down the range in stock. On Friday, they only had 1080 Ti's. They seem to be one of the few places that still sells cards near MSRP.

I am constantly adding my info to the auto-notify, but by the time I get there, they are all gone. (10 minutes to an hour) But now that I know the 8 pm thing, maybe I will sit and refresh every 1 minute or less.

Seriously.

So who’s making the money over and above MSRP? Not AMD. They were paid by the AIB.

So is it the AIB making the money, Newegg, or both?

I personally think that all of them have their hand in this cookie jar. From AMD to the retailer, and everyone in between. Newegg has no problem charging extra / "bundling" extra products when they can. It makes sense as a business owner, but really sucks for the average Joe who just wants to buy a card to game on.

Check their forums too, usually EVGA_Jacob posts in the thread asking about 1080 Ti stock when they are expecting to stock more.

Something must be done.

Nvidia declined to comment for this story.

AMD sent the following statement when asked about the graphics card shortages for PC gamers due to the cryptocurrency mining:

"The gaming market remains a priority for AMD and gamers are a primary focus across our GPUs, CPUs and semi-custom game console products."

Nvidia especially is enjoying the crypto-currency craze, and the performance of their stock price over the last 18 months or so reflects that.

EVGA is adding 1080 Ti stock right now...

FTW3 model is in stock right now, depending on how many they have they might wait until that is sold out before adding another model.

Yeah the prices are a bit higher than late 2017 prices, but better than the gouging from other retailers...

Perhaps AMD and Nvidia can work with their retailer partners and limit sales to one or two cards per household. The companies can also incorporate better mining features for their cryptocurrency-specific mining cards or even take the drastic step of altering gaming graphics card firmware to limit mining functionality.
Have they been reading the threads about this here? Those three things have been mentioned.

I would like to see evidence or hear confirmation that cards are being acquired in such a fashion. It's not to say that I disbelieve in the concept, it's just . . . nobody seems to have a smoking gun, or even a "where there's smoke, there's fire" correlation we can follow.

I know there are a lot of individual miners who do buy the hell out of consumer-grade cards for mining, and there was at least one reddit poster that infamously was trying to sell off excess video cards because he and a friend had bought up numerous retails cards, only to find out that the warehouse they had leased for mining had insufficient power available for all the cards.
There is nothing to go by except anecdotes.

Asus ROG Strix Vega 64 on sale at Newegg for $1299. Get it while it’s hot!.

Meanwhile, NewEgg is still selling Vega FE for $949. At least for the next 7 days ("sale ends in 7 days")

There is nothing to go by except anecdotes.

Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure how this squares with basic economics though.

If you're a distributor and your retail partners are able to sell product at 100% markups or higher, would you sell for anything close to MSRP, in bulk, to some miner that flashes some green and "has connections"? I sure as hell wouldn't. I'd dribble the cards out to my retail guys and try to get some of that sweet, sweet markup goodness.

Or I'd hoard the cards and mine by myself (lulz).

Something in that anecdote doesn't add up.

Looking at online prices in China, they're selling at inflated prices even to bulk buyers. As long as distributors get their money and miners get their GPUs, it doesn't seem to matter because they've already exhausted the supply channel at the retail point and they're just moving up the chain.

Eh... until about 9-12 months ago, NV was considered 'garbage' for mining, it wasn't until what, about 6mo ago that they kinda took off with Eth? I've been mining for ~12mo on 1080ti's mind you, but it was basically established groupthink that you went AMD or went home even then.

Not garbage, but AMD mines better at the same MSRP, so RX 580 mines better than GTX 1060, so in the early going AMD cards were gobbled up first. But once mining went nutzo, everything that can mine is getting grabbed, and MSRP is a figment of the imagination.
