Most of the 2017 was like this.2018 will be same or worse.Pc gaming is pretty much dead sice 2017.I think 95% of cards sells in 2017 was to miners anyway.Sooner or later even pc enthusiast will quit and then AMd/nv will have huge problem if mining crash in future.Because nobody will care about their cards by then.Everyone will be on console by then.
They need ramp up productions or bye bye pc gaming.
In EU last 8 months was all cards overpriced or missing.Only GTX1080 and 1080TI was in stores with decent price. Now its pretty much same as last 8 months but even GTX1080 and 1080TI are gone. Not true at all.
It was well within tolerable until a few days ago when literally every single modern GPU went out of stock for MSRP-ish prices.
What happened during the rest of the year basically paralleled what happened every other mining boom (astronomical AMD GPU prices) except that it hit a few Nvidia GPUs hard for a few months as well. (In ways that you could easily work around by purchasing a 980 Ti or 970 at the time which filled all the holes left by mining at that time)
Well, I just found out how bad the card situation is just now.
My MSI RX 580 I bought in late November had a bad fan bearing, so I sent it back to Newegg for a replacement (replacement only policy on all of their GPUs), and they just sent me an email telling me they don't have any more, and are refunding my payment instead.
Of course I scored that for $225 then, so if I had known they were going to do that, I would have RMA'd back to MSI instead. Now if I want to replace it with anything, I really can't. And if a RX 580 comes back in stock, I'm not getting anywhere near that amount.
"Replacement Only" by backside.

It will be interesting. With Xbox One X at $499 with a game, it's a pretty compelling argument.

Thinking of buying one myself.
Amd hasn't had a decent gpu readily available that is faster than the 290x for a long while now.The prices are insane. I mean I have a very old 290x which i bought for $250 over 3 years ago. For that money I now actually get worse performance.
Then you wouldn't be able to buy anything to game on for a long time. I feel like selling now doesn't make as much sense, as you can not find any alternative.Reading this thread, I thought y'alls were exaggerating so I went and checked prices.
Maybe I should sell my 1070. Does Wolf run on Intel graphics?

We are not going to see any major movement on the virtual coin route I know it. There are too many options, too many variants, its too clunky and cumbersome and their price is all over the place. We even saw Steam remove bitcoin as a purchase option, because its just too unstable with its price.
I think we'll see that happen for the other services that use bitcoin now, they will start throwing it out, especially as the value in not backed by anything. If everyone started accepting bitcoin right now, it would cause huge inflation and bitcoin price will have to increase, making a bitcoin that is now worth 15k, probably worth like 15 dollars.
Then you wouldn't be able to buy anything to game on for a long time. I feel like selling now doesn't make as much sense, as you can not find any alternative.
For example the 1080 was bought very little since it was slower in terms of mining than a 1070, so you could sell your 1070, probably add like $40 and buy a 1080. These days even the 1080's are being sold out and way more expensive as well.
That is *terrible*. Definitely escalate with them. I'd even say go to BBB. It may well be within their policy but it's clearly unfair to you. I'd at least demand they return the GPU as it was shipped to them so you can RMA it with someone who will at least be more subtle about screwing you over.
That sounds deeply vexing. Try not to chew out the poor customer service person.
Well, it didn't go as well as I had hoped.
They at least said that after my $165 refund goes through in 3-5 days, I will receive another refund of $40 in another 3-5 days for the emailed game code.
They wouldn't send back my card so I could RMA it with MSI, nor would they let me wait to get replacement card when more came in, or apply it as credit towards buying a different card.
While I am not at the *ticked* off stage at this point, I still find it disappointing on what they did. I will continue to post good Newegg deals here, but as a person I don't think I will be ordering anything from them again unless they are the only ones who have an item (which isn't very often).
Amazon or B&H Photo would fixed this issue. I rarely return anything, and the couple of times I've done it with them over 15-20 years, they really do go the extra mile (at least in my experience)
Wow that's garbage to not get your card back. I have bought a ton of stuff from newegg since they opened in 2001 but hearing that makes me want to never shop there again either. To think they'd take your card so they could get it refurbished themselves and sell it for a huge markup and try to only pay you $165 for it? What a con. I think I'm going to start ordering from B&H and Amazon from now on if that's the way they're going to screw customers over.
I'm 100% with you. I've been with them since 2001 as well, and I am disappointed in what happened. I mean, when a person buys a video card and it's either defective or they don't want it, Newegg won't allow then to return it for a refund or a different card (their iron clad "replacement only" policy).
But when you do an online RMA and it states "replacement only", and then they change their minds and just refund you instead, I personally think it stinks. Why have that policy if they're not going to follow it? I would have gladly paid the $15 to ship it to MSI had I known there was any chance they would do this.
Disappointed for sure.
