Instead of spending loads on copy protection that would be broken sooner or later the iPod just renames all your mp3s to gobbledegook names and when its playing them reads straight from the ID3 tags.
OP: You'll need a program that read the tags and copies them to your hard drive, renaming based on the tag info as it does that. Try YamiPod (it's the only one I can remember off the top of my head):
