Mining is dangerous, even with the best technology and the best people. If you don't know this you don't have a clue what actually goes in to making the stuff that you buy.

What the fuck is wrong with you? No one here in NZ, including an extensive list of highly educated experts, knows exactly what happened yet - so how the fuck do you know what happened? What exactly was the government supposed to do? Invest in a time machine?

And as for rescuing the miners it's been said hundreds of times by this point that they simply could not begin rescue operation due to the toxic levels of gas still in the mine. It does no one any good if the rescuers you send in are killed trying to get to miners whom you have no evidence are alive in the first place.

The only thing that I've seen in all this that I would question was the statement made, was it by NZs prime minister?, that there was every belief that the miners could be found alive.

Read it. Apparently they had a window of opportunity but did not get there in time with the adequate resources. The are sending robots now to see what it's like down there. Although its a sentence or two, nobody wants to take blame for this.

I know it's an accident, and I feel terrible for their friends and family, but I don't feel like these companies properly set up survivable working conditions in case something happened. When these companies fail to devise a plan to save its employees almost immediately, the government should step in to save its citizens. Especially ones that work for a living and have families to provide for.

Instead of a SINGLE ventilation hole, and a SINGLE entrance, double or triple up on everything. Make multiple routes to escape and get out in case a collapse or an explosion happens. This doesn't make sense to not do this at all. I'm no engineer, but workplace safety and mining at its current state have nothing in common. As far as I can tell, mining has been doing everything almost identical to what was done 100 years prior, sans breathing apparatuses.

No trolling here. Things like this COULD be prevented.
