RIP Reggie (feline)

We put Reggie down today as he was suffering from a brain tumor and had lost the ability to eat and drink. Reggie was a total sweetheart and feline heartthrob. We adopted him from a shelter in ~2008. The day we brought him home, he snuggled right up but then wouldn't let us touch him again for a year. After that, he was a snuggle-bug again. Maybe he already had a brain tumor back then. He was Yin's boy-toy and was rarely apart from another cat.

Reggie, on right with Leon and Yin. Leon, center, died in July. Yin, left is still kicking even with a heart murmur.

We still have four cats, aged 15-17 years old. We knew when we adopted the herd of geezers a few years ago that we would have a die off in time and we've lost three in the past year. We want to do some traveling and so aren't eager to take in more right now. Eventually we'll adopt a couple younger cats.

I think I'll have one more run of young kitties, then start getting old ones. No point in getting young ones if I won't be alive their whole life. Sucks having pets die, but old cats need homes too.

Losing pets has always been difficult for me. Our therapy is going out and adopting another to take care of and give a home like the one we lost. My wife is a vet and loves animals. It is possible we have framed blown up pictures of all the pets we've had in one room of the house.

<------ This is one of My rescue Dogs - Alex the Great Pyrenees Mix @ 110 lbs - Adopted him @ 2+ yrs old back in '09 - coming up on 11 yrs old real quick now. He's still in good health , Thankfully. We've lost many dogs over the years - eight I think - but it never gets any easier. I'm just happy to have shared so much joy with each and every one.

Sorry to hear that. We've got a 13 year old dog that's heading that way. Best dog you could ever want. He was abused and abandoned by his original owner. He was great with our kids when they were growing up. He was a patient older brother when my daughter bought a golden retriever pup. Little ah heck kept the old guy young for a few more years. He still has spirit, but the flesh is fading.

Im upset now. I have an 11 yr old male black cat who has slowed quite a bit recently.(also a grey female same age but friskier) I love him. I hope he lives forever. Sorry for your losses. I cant imagine...actually I can so im crying lol.

Sorry to hear. I don't look forward to when it's my cat's turn. I pretty much went through all the major life milestones with her. Graduated high school, graduated college, got my first real job, got my first house, etc.

I dread the day one of my two passes. Had a close call with our male cat Max a few months ago, but nothing a $2500 vet visit couldnt fix. They are both rescues so i dont even know how old they are, the vet thinks our female Mona is 12-14, and Max the male he estimates is 10-12. So pretty quick im going to be in your situation and thats going to be a bad day.

I got a soft spot for black furred kitties. I'm sorry for you losing a loved one. You should sleep well knowing you picked them up from a shelter, saving their life and giving them a safe and comfortable place to live their life.
